    sa-8 bottoming out?

By out of phase you mean reversing the pos/neg? If so those are right 100%. Pretty sure i have the bass eq turned up as well as the gain. Will have to check once i get some time to piddle about with the car again. Damn divorce, bleh

    sa-8 bottoming out?

I actually failed at listing the right amp. Its a mrP-500 not the mrD. Either way i do believe the sound in question is my fault. Doing no homework before adjusting the settings on an amp is probably not the best way to start. I think once i do a bit of reading and adjust the settings correctly, the noise will stop. The 3 adjustments the amp has is gain, bass eq, and lpf.
  3. Hey all. not sure if my sub is bottoming out or i have the settings done incorrectly. its an sa-8 running at 2ohm 500watts. during some songs it sounds like the sub is banging into something but if i turn the volume down it stops. box is a .75 ^3 tuned to 34hz designed by ram designs. this is my first attempt at a stereo install in over 10 years so im sure its something ive done. gain is set to half on the dial and sensitivity is at 3/4. Amp is an alpine mrd500. Any thoughts? Thanks kevin i

plasti-dip Fing madness!! and a little treat haha

Lookin good brother. I'll have to get me some of that
  5. So in other words i should just get a better set of front speakers and not even have rears? Also, any suggestions on 6.5" comps that would go well with an SA-8 substage? Removed comment which was amazingly stupid even by my standards.
  6. Forgot to mention im looking at around $150-200 for a set of front 6.5 comps. Will worry about rear fill later
  7. Current Equip HEAD UNIT Kenwood KDC X695 AMPS: Alpine MRP 500 Focal FP 4.75 SUB: Sundown SA-8 v1? WIRING 4 Gauge Kit from Audison I drive a Lada Niva which is essentially a russian jeep. Its about the same size as my wifes civic hatchback only taller. I am currently making a box using the design i got from Ryan @ RAM designs. The speakers that came with the car are a joke. Boxed 6x9's inb the rear which sound terrible and some bargain JL 5-1/4's in the front. I listen to a variety of music ranging from metal, dubstep, hip hop. I would like the speakers to have crisp clean highs but still have some decent mid range. (my old MB Quarts were great for highs but gutless in the mids) Are there suggestions on good 6-1/2 components for the front and 6-1/2 coaxs that will be boxed for the rear without breaking the bank? Something thats available in ontario would be nice too. Might be interested in importing if price / quality was excellent. Any speakers come to mind? Let me know! Cheers.

    plasti-dip is the shit!

I have a lot of nicks and chips in the paint on my Lada. Does that stuff fill in nicks as it covers? If so maybe i'll give the beast a coat

Box for SA-8 in a Lada Niva

Thanks for the input. Still new to using these calculators etc. so i just guessed at a lot of the fields. I guess i should pay more attention to all of the required fields Adding in the number of common walls changed the tuning by a ton. Guess its back to the drawing board.

Box for SA-8 in a Lada Niva

I spent a bit of time playing with google sketchup and this is what i came up with. This seem like it would work well? Since ive never built a box before i guessed at what it was supposed to look like from the measurements / info that i got from that calc program. Any thoughts?

Box for SA-8 in a Lada Niva

What type of port did you use? slot or other? And what size / length port did you use? I think im going to go take some measurements and figure out what size i want the box to be then work on figuring out how to get the port size / length etc to work. First time for everything
  12. Hey everyone. I purchased an SA-8 after reading a ton of reviews and now i am ready to start building a box. Since i've never built a box before i downloaded a couple of programs which apparently i have no concept on how to use :/ I listen to a variety of music from metal to dubsteb so i'm looking for a a box that can do both SQ and SPL. From what i've seen online it looks like .6^3 box tuned to 35hz is the way to go. Sub is going to have 500rms at 2ohm feeding it. I was thinking of having the sub point towards the roof and the port firing to the back. The narrowest point in the vehicle is 38". I emailed ram design to see if they could design me something but i haven't hear back yet and i'm impatient If anyone is able to design me a box with a slot port (for my ease of building) with the above info in mind i would be most appreciative. (paypal account waiting) Cheers. Kevin

You found my car! thats the after shot, 3-5 years from now... Its funny how many times ive looked up Lada niva and never seen that pic. Pretty cool.
  14. Hey everyone. Recently i jumped back into the market for car audio and came across this lovely little SA-8. After reading countless reviews and testimonials i decided to bite and purchased one. Now that it is here and weighing down my table its time to get a box designed and get it into my Lada! (yes.. i said Lada) Cant wait to hear what it sounds like. Looking forward to joining the community. Cheers all!
