Is it possible to send my SSA XCON dual 1 ohm in for a re-cone and have them reconfigure the sub so it is Dual 2 ohm?

cool, i dont have an oscope so this will do. thanks! -
DMM tuning with strapped amps?
agarabaghi posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Im going to be strapping my 2 audiopipe apsm1300, essentially the master amp will control both amps. The amps strapped together are suppose to do ~2000watts @ 2 ohms. Is it possible to hook them up strapped and do DMM tuning by putting the probes on each amps terminal? The master amp is the + and the slave amp is the - ... does this work? ~63volt for the DMM meter... sqrt(2000 * 2ohm) -
Strapping APSM1300 together...
agarabaghi posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I have 2 audiopipe APSM1300s, i was running them strapped together on a 10" SSA XCON D1 (wires to 2 ohms). So i am not sure if one of the amps dying had anything to do with strapping them, or if the moisture in the boat finally took out the amp. Basically, the amps ran fine for a couple days strapped, and then yesterday when the "Master" amp's power and protection light started flickering very fast, and the sub began making a popping sound, even with RCAs pulled out. I unplugged the remote wire, and hooked the sub up to the "Slave" amp and everything works fine. I took the "Master" amp and put it in my truck and it did the same thing. Looking at the wiring diagrams included in the manual, I have a couple questions: 1) Im going to assume the top amp in each drawing is the "master" amp and the bottom amp is the "slave" 2) "Master" amp is the + on the speaker, "slave" amp is the negative. Picture 1 shows the speaker wiring: The only thing i noticed was that I hooked my speaker up to the last terminal instead of the 3rd, would that matter? Picture 2 shows the RCA wiring: This is what confused me. Wouldn't the "Master" amp have the signal input and remote? I hooked up my "master" amp (going to the + on the speaker) with the signal input, but I would not give enough power unless i had it plugged into bridge out? Could my wiring have toasted an amp? When i check the ohm load at the speaker terminals a couple days before my issue, it read right around 2 ohms... -
very nice... play this song Plies - street light lemme know how that sounds

This made me excited for my 10" xcon to arrive. How much power are you running to each?

nevermind, thanks again rick!

You could rhino line / trunk bed line the wood before carpeting it. Or you could coat the wood with fiberglass resin before carpeting it. That's how we protect the wood in the boat subwoofer boxes.

Well i am not opposed to building a new box, I would just prefer not too. I think I have a few more inches I can stretch it out. I was running 2 SA10s, each on an audiopipe APSM1300. 1 in a small sealed box in a storage compartment, and 1 in the current box. It sounds great, but I am really missing the storage area. I guess I will try this sub out in the original box, and if I don't like the output or think it could be better, maybe Pro-Rabbilt will be ready for his vacation hah! I think i might be able to make the total length 30" max, keeping everything else the same would yield me about: 1.52ft^3 before displacement, so 1.37ft^3 after sub displacement. That would require ~ 19.5" of aeroport to achieve 34hz tuning. First Im not sure I could fit 19.5 inches without hitting the back of the driver due to the strange dimensions of this box. Oh well, hopefully the sub shows up soon and I can give it a test run! Really im hoping for similar output as the 2 sa10s, but gaining back my storage compartment. I understand that with 2 10" SA10s there is a lot of more cone area, but we can't forget that 1 of the SA10s was in a compartment that really muffled the noise, and just caused rattles and vibrations. ha ha ...

thanks pro-rabbit ... i see you are also on this forum =P It's an aero... im doing to try a direct drop in and see how it sounds!

This setup in particular in the fact that it will be in a boat. Port noise is not really a concern as you have a lot of extra wind and sounds since it's all open. The SA10 is performing very well with the 3" port. I could always go to 4" but I think I might give this a try 1st.

Because of port noise?

Well im swapping out my 2 SA10s each on an audiopipe APSM1300 for 1 SSA 10" XCON and i will be strapping both amps together to get ~2000w @ 2 ohms. It seems like I might get away with being able to use the same box and port length. The current box is 1.39ft^3 before displacement, making it 1.24ft^3 ... using the aero port calculator My exisiting 3" x 15" port will give me a tuning of ~30.8hz. Am i lucky and wont have to build a new box?
