If the font's too thin, it won't lend itself to padprinting for the dustcaps.

A black logo on white background can be inverted Again, part of the idea behind a quality logo - flexibility for print, cnc, etching, embossing, silkscreening, etc. Unless the company letterhead is going to be on black paper.
