New 2008 Btl's Breaking In, Louder Then Ever!

also, i posted this mini review on my site and a few people had comments on why i hadnt made the review earlier, maybe due to me not being "happy" with them. Here is my response so i dont have to retype it all again..... -------------------------------------------- Well at first, they had a "different" sound to them. It wasnt that i wasnt happy, it was just different. Brand new, 5 spiders, stronger motor will sound different. I was used to my WELL broken in older BTL's. Last time i reconed my old ones, in October, i felt the same way....i was like damn....but a week or two later i was happy as hell. Same thing is happening here, the more i "stretch" them out the more i like them and on top of that the tinsel issues have been resolved. Im running more then double the RMS and tinsels werent a big problem but i did break at least 2 in the year and a half i had the older ones. Not bad, i broke 2 a month with my older brand....not that it was their fault, ive always ran more then double the RMS. Anyway, whether or not it meters louder i dont know.....but to me they sound louder, they feel louder and they are shaking my truck harder. Thats what matters the most. I heard a rumor that someone was sayin they werent as loud as my old ones....thats BULLchit. Regardless of opinion, SPL affects people differently, they arent any quiter at all. No matter what, they will meter at LEAST as loud as they were but now more reliable. My box will hold my score back more than anything else, i think i got all there is to get out of this design/configuration. I was doing a 156.5 dash, 157.4 kick and a few 158's at the pad in 2004.....basicly you can only squeeze so much SPL out of this turnup One day i will be able to devote some time to a new box but right now it involves moving my batteries and will be a huge RE-do...no time and it hits PLENTY hard the way it is. F#ck it
  8. thanks i made little windows so some of it can still be seen
  9. if you look close you can see the plexi i put behind those window holes. Its just so i can see how it might look. Im going to remove it and after it gets wrapped up ill drop the real plexi piece in and perhaps back-light the stuff behind it...... Oh ya, something else i ordered up came on Friday Im not puttin it in till last though i dont want to have to clean sawdust off brand new black carpet. Should match the seats and interior perfect.
  10. thanks! tinkered around a little this week. It was hard to work with the wind blowing so damn hard....it sucks almost as much as the rain or a 115 degree day. Just ruins any motivation. heres a few pics of what i did though so far.
  11. Time to extend the wires......everything is soldered and heatshrunk. I extended the on/off switch wires to the front. I will probably drop a stinger volt meter where the power switch hole is. The digits fit perfect back there, too bad the one i have stopped working. Had to make some brackets to hold the face to the wall. I had some Stainless layin around so i made up a few. They worked perfect. the left side will match the right on the next set of updates. The window on the driver side will show the status of the charger along with a shot of the buss bars.......im clockin out for the night though, it was a long day.
  12. I spent a ton of time on the wiring so i wanted to show it a little. There will be a plexi glass window in this spot on both sides. The 3sixty is barely in the window but at least i can see the light and tell what mode its in. I had no choice, the legnth of the RCA's and the fact its already done made it where i cant move it up more. Its fine it will be a suttle little view- thru anyway.... Ok time to deal with the PowerMaster charger. I wanted both windows to be in the same spot left to right........i didnt want a window down low on the left, and up top on the right so it was time to break out the butcher knife again. I had to peal the sticker off to gain access to the screws holding the circuit board to the case.
  13. Ugly as HELL right? just wait take notes its a pretty cool way to find difficult curves, just hash it together. Overlap it, tape it together whatever you gotta do....pull it out and then trace it clean. See the next 2 pics...
  14. that was during last week.... small update: Friday i went and chilled at Chickens pad after work and didnt do anything. Saturday i went to the Grass Valley show, I drank beer afterwards and chilled out again So i only worked today but i put a long day in 55 pics, may not SEEM like much but it was a lot of work. first thing is first. The amps draw a ton of current during warm up so i want one of the remotes to be switchable from up front so he can warm one up at a time. Its just easier on the electrical system especially if its idling during warm up. I also am running wires so i can turn the PowerMaster charger on from up front that way he can plug it in and THEN hit the switch (for those concerned with the plug location) I also ran some extra wire just in case for the future so i can just tap in if i need to rather than run new wires. Im planning for expansion Had lots of bare metal to cover and the stock plastic will come in handy....but only after i butcher the hell out of it You cant just do trim in this situation without some sort of support...time to frame it out. As you can see its all plumb and level (well you cant see the bubble but trust me on that)
  15. I hope this works out, here is my cardboard mock-up of what i have in mind. sorta secret spy pics.....taken with cell phone so low quality
  16. thanks not bad for being tuned to 30hz and having lovely sounding mids/highs to go with it
  17. im not sure how much of CHICKENS money im gonna spend, but its a lot
  18. wasnt feelin good at all last saturday and sunday so i didnt do much.......woke up monday feelin pretty good. Ill be back at it.....lots of little stuff to do now that the hardcore part is done here is what the seats are starting to look like. Its just the bottom, the back part is done but we need to get grey or black seatbelts before it can go back together......i was supposed to be on that last weekend but like i said, i didnt do much. Soon, you will see the rest but here is a teaser of how the seats are coming out taken with camera phone so quality isnt as good......but good ENOUGH.

  20. i was gettin ready to do a few things last nite on the caddy and i wanted to make sure everything was still working good so i tossed in a Metallica CD. Dont worry bassheads, there will be PLENTY of low-end, deep bass playing in this thing soon enough. I just cant get over how this thing sounds on rock so i had to make another vid veBR01pIejE its hard to get that sub excursion when kick drums move so fast but you can tell if you look they are doing there thing and very much under control too video does it NO justice, once again lol.....i have to say that because the camera mic does not show how good this thing sounds....at least my new camera doesnt distort as bad from the bass as my old one did and you can still hear the top end over the drums.
  21. actually the car was off. It usually goes back up to 12.8-13.0 after i back off the bass knob but 12.5 slumppin damn hard on pure battery power (5 batts) with 2 15,000 watt amps isnt bad. also, the tank you see is indeed nitrogen, for the air bags....this way when he is chillen, showin off his ride, he dont have to listen to those damn annoying compressors. Those noisy things are just for back up, the main system will run off the "bottle". Im also gettin my upholstery guy to make a "bottle sock" for it out of the same material he is doing the seats. This way its not all green and ugly.......just slide the new tank in the sock and hook it up! good to go
  22. no need for an epicenter, this thing is out of control loud AND deep already dont forget you are hearing it on camera not in person so dont discount the bass on it just yet .
