SKAR Audio VVX-12 Production Pictures - It's DONE!

What power will you be pushing them with? I would recommend if you are using 2 subs to get 3-3.5 cubes (1.5-1.75ea). Subs landed in NY today, then to NC then to customers! Finally!! -

Would this box work for the sub? It's 2cf tuned to 35hz, if not let me know what would work. I don't have any ported box experience, so I'm not familiar with figuring a box, I like the size of this box though because I need to be no more than 14 inches tall to fit in my trunk. Also I really like the lows, I want this sub to reproduce low 30's with authority, would that mean that we need to tune a little lower or is 35-36 the sweet spot for this sub. I just don't want it to fall of before 30hz if that makes sense. 2@35hz -

Thanks Kevin, I can't wait, please use a slot port design as it will be the easiest to build. I will review the speaker once I get it and get a chance to break it in properly Also I don't see the xmax listed on the driver, what can we expect in milimeters of xmax? -

Give us the perfect ported box build sheet with a slot port and no more than 14 inches in height. I want to get it built before the sub arrives, also have a crossfire bmf1000d to power this bad boy, can't wait. -

When can we expect to see this sub to our doors if we preordered? -
We have an mj in the family and I think it is very musical, granted it is the original not the mjm. It does get really loud, brother replaced it with a wmd18 and the wmd gets quite a bit louder but not on the lowest of the notes. The mj is on garage system duty now, and rattles half of the house on a 500w plate amp, haha

It will be nice to have coil options in the future, especially for people that are wanting to use the IXL series with their 2ohm stable amps.

Mark or anybody that can answer, I have an mj18 that recently got a hole knocked in the surround and the dust cap crushed in, the speaker still sounds good but I would like to fix these issues if possible. Can I resurround the mj and put a new dustcap on it? How much for the parts, we have resurrounded speakers before just not the MJ. Thanks!

I have a tc1000 12 in my car, and I built a tc1000 15 for a home setup. I believe they are now called the epic line, somebody correct if I'm wrong about the new name. I will have to say first about the 12, I have it in a 2.2cf sealed box powered by a buttkicker silent subwoofer amp 800x1@2ohm (400rms). It sounds incredible, it really digs deep, and does well on all types of music. One time when TC was still in business, they ran an awesome sale, we picked up the 15 for like 149.00. It is in a 10cf sealed box, powered with a 300w bash and it has usable response down to 12hz. It you can find somebody selling any of the tc subs, pick one or 2 up you will not be disappointed. Honestly, for the money the best subs I have ever owned, much better than any of the previous JL overpriced stuff that i had years ago, although I do still wish I had my old Soundstream reference 500. I really like the tc 10 oem that they did, I have seen some of those for sale recently, and almost pulled the tiger eventhough I don't need them.

Hey guys, I have a brother that I installed an mj18 with a buttkicker silent subwoofer amp for almost 2 years ago. It has been great for him but now he is ready to upgrade, currently since the mj18 is 4ohm the amp is running 4ohm. What I would like to do is keep the amp, and 3.6-3.8cf box and replace the mj18 with an ixl18, but I realize its a 2+2voicecoil config. So the buttkicker is 2ohm stable, but I have read that if an amp is 2ohm stable then it will be 1ohm stable as well is there any truth to this? Also the box is sealed, and I wondered how the ixl would do in the sealed box at 3.6cf. We really like the price point for what the ixl can do. The only other option I have is I have another buttkicker amp, could I just put 1amp per 1coil? I don't have any experience in doing that, so that is why I'm asking. If there is another 2ohm 18, that is in the around 300.00 price range, and sounds great let me know. Thanks for the help

mj18 to ixl18 need some amperage help

Mark, Do we know when the PR's will be available? At least a ball park, possibly a ballpark of price -

Now I'm going to ask a really dumb question, so here we go, can I use this new PR with a sealed box? -

Thanks for the info Mark, I had another thought, do you have passive radiators of the MJ that might be a better solution for a few extra DB's. Also we could give the MJ like 600-700watts instead of the 400rms it gets now. I wish he just had the cf for 2 MJ's then I could just run the amp 2ohm and be good, but that its an option. If you don't have an PR's do you know something that would work well for the MJ? Thanks for all the help. -

I know we could just leave the amp at 2ohm and run the ixl in series but would it get louder than the mj18 in the same box with the same power? -

We did the mj18 in a 3.5cf sealed box, you get plenty of punch and the extension is good 90hz down to 20hz.

My understanding is that the if you want to capture digital cable on a tv tuner card, there isn't a card that is available to do this yet. It's because of the encrpytion, that the cable companies use. It's to bad there isn't a good way to interface the cablebox with a htpc.

I've got some sennheiser HD212pro's and fell in love the first time I listened, they gave me chills from the amount of detail I was hearing. I vote for sennheiser's.

please help! i need a box design for mj 18's
smokinkane replied to 6pucker's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
Just go sealed, my brother has one mj sealed in 3.5cubes and it is loud as hell. -
Mach5 products are really nice, I have installed the MJ18 in my brother's car and it sounds great. I couldn't believe how musical it was for an 18, plus it gets really loud, and doesn't breakup. I can't believe you can get such a nice product for such a small amount of money.

I will try to remember it all: 1996: 2 MTX 12's in a wedge box (in my room before I could drive) 1997: 2 JL 15w1's powered by a bridged alpine v12 3 1/2 Boston Acustics coxials 6x9's Pioneer coxials 1998: Added an Aria 5 1/4 component set 1999: Ditiched the JL's for a Kicker solobaric 15 and a Rockford Fosgate 600.1 I think it was 2000: Ditiched the Solobaric (never liked how it sounded) for the loudest sub I have owned you can laugh but us old school beaters know that the Lanzar DC 15's beat, powered by a Soundstream reference 500 (loved that amp wish I still had it) 2001: Thought I was pretty much down with the loud car audio, so ditched the sub, just ran some fultron 6x9's and kenwood coaxials Later in 2001 added a kenwood sub and lanzar viberant amp, that setup stayed there for the longested 2004: Different car installed the stuff that would fit, and the kenwood sub, and since I didn't have a hatch anymore it was not ever audible in the trunk. 2005 or 2006 Decided I wanted more, so I got some JL VR 6x9's, and an Ascendant Audio 10" (sounded really nice), then I just needed the right components, so I got so a/d/s/ 345cs's and still have them running passive. 2007: Currently still running the a/d/s's, the JL VR's, and now a tc-1000 12 (I really enjoy this sub), old school PPI 4400, on the components, and JL's, then the buyout buttkicker amp from partsexpress on the tc-1000. I've had the same deck for several years now Pioneer 740MP, it still is going strong, I would like a head unit with a 24bit dac but maybe that is the next upgrade.

I installed the mj18 with the parts express buttkicker buyout, in about 3cf. It sounds awesome, really deep and smooth response. You will love it. The buttkicker amp is really great, I ended up buying one for myself to power my tc1000 12 at 2ohm.

Mark, I was just wandering if your SPL 10 or 12 is getting close to production? thanks

cooling your amps
smokinkane replied to bassmachine's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I think a squirrel cage fan that thermaltake makes would be a great amp cooler, especially if you have a amp rack where amps are stacked on top of each other. You could just leave an inch of clear space in between each one and blow the fan across the top of the heatsink, that way the entire payload of the fan would be blowing across that top of the amp. I will see if I can get a picture of the fan I'm talking about. -
My big 3 is all 1/0 and all amps are grounded back to the battery. This is the 4th or 5th setup that I've had in the car, 3rd with this HU and the first time I've had noise issues. I honestly think that the amp is messed up. I had a problem with it before that I thought I fixed. Probably going to send it back to PG for a refurb. Hopefully you get it all fixed, its cool to see a follow srt4 owners build log.
