Digital Media (Mech Less) Recievers
kballenger posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Looking into getting a new head unit and want to get a digital reciever. Does anybody already have one and how do you like it? I havent bought a CD in i dont kow when and listen to my Ipod more than the radio, so losing the CD playback wont be a problem to give up. They all have the same basic features that i am looking for with the main difference being with the Sony's Ipod tray. Looking at the : Kenwood KIV 901BT Sony DSX S300 BTX Pioneer MVH P8300BT Want to know how easy they are to use, and any dislikes you may have. thanks, -
I am lookin to replace my current single Diamond D3 10 with a single or possibly two 12's but dont want to buy run of the mill subs (ie JL Rockford Alpine) and would like to explore other options. I will try to give as much info as i can. 1st - My current set up is - Pioneer head unit - that will be replaced also MB Quart Ref 6.25 MB Quart Onyx 4.80 Diamond D3 10 Kicker ZX1000.1 2nd - I listen to a wide range of music and perfer SQ to SPL. 3rd - Even though i have a good amount of room to use, i would prefer NOT to use the entire cargo area for a speaker box but understand i have to give to get so i am willing give up some room if needed. 4th - Budget i would like to stay in the 300 +/- range 5th - I have looked at FI - SSA - Sundown but dont know the brands but willing to try. 6th - look to install this into a 91 suburban. I have been out of the car audio market for awhile and only really of know the common market brands. I also understand that a lot of this personal opinon and respect that fact. If i left anything out our you need more detail let me know and be gentle. Thanks in advance.

ending getting 2 sundown SA12 and waiting on the enclosure, but i believe i will use the dual ported enclosure for a SSA xcon which is a 4 cu ft box touned to 30 hertz. looking forward to hearing them soon!

10-4 Thanks again.

I will be building my first ported box soon and was wondering about port location? I will be using a box design that i found on SSA website for 2 Sundown SA 12's with a kicker ZX1000.1 at a 2ohm load. See the link..... 12" DUAL PORTED 4.0 ft^3 t 30 hertz My link My question is , If i use this box and move the port to the outside but leave it at the same end will it change the tuning, i would think so but not sure. Sorry if i this is a stuipid question but as i said this will be the first ported enclosure that i have owned/built. I plan on the subs firing upwards on top of the enclosure and will be pushing the box close to my rear seat. Hope i gave enough info. thanks in advance,

Need to hit all of the Sundown owners up to what boxes you have used. Ihave 2 SA 12's that i will be running at a 2ohm load off a Kicker ZX1000.1. Ihave always had sealed boxes and thought that they were better for SQ and the lower bass notes. I am open to suggestions as i have NEVER used one of these subs before. If i should go ported what should it be tuned to and how many cubic ft for 2? If sealed should i use poly fill and if so how much and how many cubic ft for 2? Any reference material or you tube videos you can link me to would be great. thanks guys.

I have narrowed my search to a 12 sub to the either a single FI SSD or a Sundown SA 12. I plan on using a ZX 1000 at a 2ohm load in the back of a suburban. if you were in my shoes and needed a 12 sub to run in a sealed inclosure and had about 300.00 to spend on a sub which would you chose and why. Feel free to suggest other brands. thanks

Both of my boys do as they are driving and nothing seems to be cooler than my 17 year old beating up the school parking with the biggest truck intown. Guess its good i live in a small town. Its been a really good truck and has served my family very well, 250,000 plus trouble free miles. When we out grew it instead of selling i gave it a second life and used as a project for me a kids to work on. The up graded audio is just one of the several on going upgrades and rebuilds this truck is getting.

thanks everybody for your thoughts as yall have been very helpful - looks like i am gonna have my first ported box, seems only fitting as this will be the first time i have used Sundown also.

Hi My name is Kris and i am currently living in SC. I am looking to get back into car audio as i have been out of the game for a little (life-wife-kids) as i had somethings to do. I have started building a 4x4 and the audio/video system has resparked my interest in the market. I have lots of questions and looking to learn all i can again. Thanks,

Went with Sundown SA 12's. it was a money thing, i could get 1 Fi SSD or 2 sundowns........ So it wasnt easy but did it.
-
thanks, i have been researching alot and bit the bullet and purchased 2 on the 10th
-
Gonna order 2 SA 12's on Monday and hope for the best, i do like the looks of the FI but for the money i dont think i can go wrong.

when i was younger i had 2 MTX Blue Thunders running off a Rockford amp, with out a doubt on of the best systems i ever had. I switched to 2 Rockfrord pro series 12's and swear the MTX hit harder.
-
yea. kinda what i was thinking about running 2 SA 12's
-
Other than 5 five kids - got tired of seeing lifted pickups and wanted something different.
-
i also think a single sub would fine for me but my questions was to which as their are several brands that were not in the market 10 or 20 years ago and did not want to purchase a major brand with out exploring some of the less popular quality brands. i am not stuck on a brand but just looking for suggestions. i would prefer a single but not opposed to a dual set up.

My front stage is fine. I have 2 sets of the MB Quart Onyx 6.5 components on the four channel MB Quart Onyx amp and very happy with the quaility and output of my front stage, which is the reason for wanting to "up grade" the sub. If my front and rear stage was a concern i would have asked for suggestions on how to handle. I was settled in my decesion with the Diamond D6 12 with a Diamond 600 to 1000 watt amp to provide power until I aquired the ZX 1000 my plans changed and so did my thought process as to which sub/subs i would get. I am of the age where SPL is not a concern and SQ is.
-
Thanks - edouble101 I will look into the Sundowns.
-
Agree, i was planning on getting a single Diamond D6 12 and almost did until i started looking at different sites and second guessing myself. i then started looking at JL 13w7 and 12w6's along with Rockford's P3 and T series and Orion HCCA all brands i have used in the past but just want to step outside the box and get something nobody else has kinda thing.

/// M5 Sorry about that but i was hitting burko back and your post slipped in there when i wasnt looking. I am pretty happy with the SQ of the D10 but looking to go louder and lower. This switch in subs was always in the plans but was supposed to be done later. The ZX was part of a recent trade and now seems to be a good time. I am looking for sound quality and open to all suggestions.
-
Well thats kinda my problem, i have only heard the FI's on you tube and never heard of SSA or Sundown or Skar. i know that i will be making the final call but looking for that push. I sure you have been there. thanks,
