i think i understand how you have that setup. ill take a try at wiring it that way tonight.

that is the wiring diagram that i used and that is how i have it wired. the only thing to change from you picture that you professionally drew (sorry but i had to) both negatives are on the bottom and both positives are on the top as you can see im also a professional lol. i know it gets a little mixed up because of the colors on the ring terminals. but its because of the way it used to be wired with the old wiring diagram. but all the bolts have red or black on them for the terminal. so i dont get it mixed up that way.

average playing the way i used to have it set up was around 30. never over 30 tho. mine only goes up to 40. the old ones used to go higher. when i calculated my box i had it roughly at 32-35hz. and thats what i was told by someone. im not saying they were right but thats what i had figured and what i was told. im not trying to be a burden on anyone. im just very unhappy spending that much money on subs and it sounding like it does. i know it wont sound as good as its supposed to with the size but im worried about the sound the subs make when its turned up. i did try it in another box and they did the same noise. so thats why i dont want to hack this one up before i get a 100% answer. and thats also why im in no rush to make a new one seeing as i tried them in another box and it didnt change the sound any. i do plan on changing the design of this box. i can hack about 10-13 inches off the back of it without changing too much. i can also make the port thinner shorter wider longer anything else. if someone feels ambitious and wants to take a stab at it they could design me a box lol. keep the front the way it is and change the port dimensions and how much they would like me to cut off the back. like i said i am willing to change the box size. but i do want a 100% answer it is going to change the sound. which no one can say that because of the box i tried it in to see what it changed. i know im awfully repetitive but it seems sooo many people miss the simple things and re ask them lol. i have seem videos online of one bl 12 in a regular cab behind the seat box and it had more flex and was louder then anything i have ever had. now i have 4 and i get nothing out of them. i want to be loud! lol thats why i came here. i know your have a great reputation and sell amazing stuff. but i need to get this figured out or im at a huge loss.

ok so the box is to big. not the point. they go from sounding good to one more volume up and sounding bad. that doesnt sound like a box issue to me. im goiing to try to shorten it up at some time but not right now. if i cant get them to sound semi decent im not wasting my time making another box. i posted pictures of my amp and the deck. the settings are there on the amp. take a look at those. all the settings are under half. the amp is rated at 2607. thats what it tested from the factory. thats about 650 per sub. yeah not far off from what you said. i know its less then they are looking for for power but is that really going to play this big of a part in the way they sound? granted its not peak power but is that going to make them distort? i havent set the amp gains using a scope or anything yet. when i got to a audio store im hoping that they can help me out with that. otherwise i was going to set it with a ddm. there is the way that my box is set up. i have changed dimensions a little when i started building it. port is opened a inch wider and the front face where the subs sit is 2 inches back from there also. thats all that i changed. i also did try 2 subs in another box. dont know if everyone missed that. it still made the same noise when i did that. so thats why i dont think it has anything to do with the sub box that i built.

i tired it in a recommended size box. the other box that i tried them in is 2.7 ft^3 with would be 1.35 per sub which is inside of the recommended box size. and it still did the same thing. it seems like they cant take any more power. there not moving enough to reach the limits of the coil. not at the amount of power there getting. im testing another set today. if both of those sound good im going to be pointing the finger at the subs. i have tired 2 different wiring diagrams on the box. did the 9-v battery test. took the subs out and rewired the inside of the box. tested the subs on someone elses system. and tested them in a different box which has the correct volume specifications for the subs. now if i test mine on someone elses and it sounds good. then the only thing left is to drive all the way up to a stereo shop and get them to look at it.

had them put in a box that was about the correct size. i turn my gains down and its super quiet. if i set it to the point where it doesnt make that sound they are quiet as hell. im going to test the setup at the same settings on my buddies 4 clarions tomorrow. and again on my old jl w7 that i sold in the afternoon. if everything sounds good on those 2 setups im going to go to a stereo shop and see what they have to say. the only reason i havent done that yet is because the closest one is a fair ways away minimum of a hour and a bit.

port is about 20 inches long then goes down the side of the box about 15 inches. sounds great till it cuts out. sounded awesome with the w7 in there. the amp isnt going into protect and there isnt a voltage drop when it does this. they do move more then the video shows. i dont have a better camera.
-
thats how it was set on the video. gain is under half. all the dials are at about the same spot.about 1/3 of the way up. its hard to hear but you can tell more near the end of the video where it starts to sound funny. im going to try a different set of subs hopefully today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pacUhsbpjlw

loudness off does the same thing. already tried that. and turned my source level to 0. im going to try different subs tomorrow. hook them up to my buddies 4 10's.
-
ok double checked the wiring on all 4 again. put it all back together. tried a cd. still getting this finny noise. have pictures of the headunit and amp settings. the amp had to be mounted upside down so the skin is upside down. so there are the 2 pictures of the amp. and the wiring diagram that i used t wire it up

that sounds like soo much work......where is the attach a file button? lol i wasnt trying to say that there is something wrong with the subs or blame the problem on them. im just wondering if there is a 1 in a gillion chance lol. the only other think i think it could be is my ipod. i should have mentioned that before but i didnt think about it till today. when i tried my subs on my buddies amp and stereo i used my ipod on his to test it out. i never tried a cd on it. i have never used a cd lol. i didnt mention it before. i didnt even think about it till this afternoon after my subs were out and fully disconnected. so im going to put it all back together tomorrow. ill take pictures of it all to show how its connected. and ill test it out on a cd or sd card. something other then my ipod.

how do i post a picture on here?
-
how do i post pictures on here? i have pictures of all my settings on my amp and headunit. checked the wiring on them everything was good. put them in the old box that i used to have before the blow trough and it still did the same thing. volume went up to 9 but as soon as you turned it to 10 it made that sound again. is there any way possible that something is wrong with the subs? i know its basically impossible to have something defective to all 4 of them but im running out of options.
-
ill check wiring this morning. i dont have a way to check for clipping. i have a brand new pioneer AVH-P6300BT.
-
i checked the settings and it all seems to be good. it sounded good with the 2 w7 in there so thats why i was concerned with how this sounded. it doesnt get gradually worse as you turn it up. it goes from sounding good to bad with just one notch up. i may have to redesign my box it sounds like. im going to take the subs out of the box tomorrow and check wiring on them. i tried 2 different wiring diagrams on them. one from rockford and one from 12volt.com. sounds the same wired both ways so im not sure that there wired out of phase. they all move the same distance out and at the same time. they dont move very much because the volume is very low. i cant turn it up much at all before it starts to do its thing. thank you for the help. i have another box that i am going to try 2 in tomorrow to see how it sounds. i just dont know why it sounded so good with the other subs and then this way with these.
-
so my box in total should only be 6 cubes? total????? thats not good to hear. with all the time and money into this build.
-
yeah i did. read out at just under 2 ohms. i didnt think that the box could be too big????? its 14.8 cubes total. it angles in at the front and there is a divider in it. i think i figured it out to be about 5 cubes a side. is that still too big? how come my w7 sounded so good in there?
-
used the box for 2 w7 in one side before i sold them. same amp and everything. i havent touched anything since i have the other subs in there and it sounded very good. nothing in the box moves. not even a little.......lol. i did test 2 subs individually and still the same. i thought it could be the amp but i ran long speaker wires to a friends truck and it still did it. so different amp headunit and truck all together. i think it could be something to do with wiring inside of the box. seeing as i have tried 2 different ways of wiring and still the same problem. it doesnt sound like a loose dust cap. and they all do it not just one. im going to pull one or 2 of the subs out of the box tonight maybe and see if anything went wrong in there but i dont see how it could have.
-
ok rewired it and still nothing different. could it have anything to do with break in? i put a video on youtube of it. its hard to hear but near the end of the video you can hear how it gets louder and quieter. when it gets louder is when it distorts. http://www.youtube.com/user/1996yellow?feature=mhee#p/a/u/0/pacUhsbpjlw im rnning out of ideas. hooked it up to a different stereo and it did the same thing. it has to be my wiring. i was thinking one of the subs had a issue but all 4 of them do it when hooked up solo. so any help would be great because im beyond lost now.
-
i just quickly went out and hooked up one sub and its still doing the same thing.........didnt do it before with the other subs. new rca not near power. new deck. 4 weeks old. new amp. same time as deck and rca cables. im soo lost right now.
-
i also found a different wiring diagram off 12volt so ill try that one tomorrow to.
-
all the subs checked out at .7 to .9 of a ohm. checked them all before putting them in the box. ill try testing one or two individually. found a different way to wire it also. might try that if each sub sounds good on its own

X2. Go for broke and tune at 28Hz. Also, once you have your setup up and running conduct some test to make sure you're getting the most from your setup. Drop off a buddy a couple of blocks away and play your setup full blast while alternating opening windows. Your ride will be like a quasi-6th order band pass enclosure. Effing high tech mang. Remember to conduct neighborhood surveys as well. Once you've driven through at full tilt, go back and ask residents how loud was your setup. Have them rate you loudness on a scale of 1- "Yes I could hear it inside my house", 5- " I could feel the bass inside my house" to 10 "Shit was falling off the shelves it was so damn loud!" Remember extra points are given if priceless family heirlooms fall and break. For clarification purposes: No, those stupid "Precious Moments" statues do not qualify as family heirlooms. Remember, be loud, be proud, and thanks for pucking up our hobby areshole! thats awesome lol. some do like to hear your system but there is a place and a time. i love to hear someones audio. see how loud it is. but when im sitting at home relaxing the last thing i want to hear is someone going past rattling my walls. but he also hasnt said anything specific. power? goals? and where he is going to bump it. hate to jump the gun early saying he is a grade a @$$hole lol.

what gauge speaker wire would be recommended for 4 10" fi bl (flat wind coil, cooling) i have 12 gauge speaker wire but im thinking that that is too small. its kicker shielded wire. would i be able to tie the 2 wires together and double them up to have roughly 8 gauge wire? or is the 12 going to be enough?
-
im going to double up my 12 that i have now. at very least the wire inside of the box is going to be. outside will depend on how much i need in the end. i should have more then enough but you never know till you get started.
