    Limited Excursion X15 Power Handling

Thanks for the input! Regarding the T/S and TH enclosure... yeah, hornresp and I are becoming good friends, and MDF and I are going to get even closer! I see a lot of build, test, rebuild, test... Three X15's in a 30 cube TH enclosure gives me a "simulated" 130dB @ 20hz with half space loading (~flat up to 80Hz). The X15's will be parallel wired and driven with 1200Watts @ 1.9 Ohms. At 20hz the excursion will be ~ 17mm so the distortion should be "okay". I hope to see 140+ dB @ 20Hz with only 1200Watts. Take that popped into the cab of a Sierra 1500 via a blow-through, add cabin gain and eighth space loading, then hand out diapers before turning up the volume. I'll post my test results once I get something built. I hope my patience lasts long enough for me to get it all "right". Thanks again.
  2. So, I've got a question regarding the power handling capability of the X series 15" sub. I'm building a Tapped Horn that's going to load the sub down at 25hz and 60hz. I am expecting to see maybe 5mm excursion @ 400 watts at those two frequencies with a max excursion of 14mm @ 30Hz. My question would be, in your guys' opinion, will I burn up the VC because there won't be enough motion to cool the coil off? This whole project is a bit of a technical practical to see how low and loud I can go. The tapped horn should give me excellent low end extension into ~20Hz and keep the coil in the gap @ 400watts. Just wanted your guys' opinion on the power handing capacity. Thanks!
