A lil Jay-Z I see Seemed apropos. I listen to a lot of that style of rap when trying to motivate sales and work on business planning. Jazz, Hip-hop, and Paul Simon end up in heavy rotation. For commercial 4wd Loader applications we have seen 25%+ increase in fuel economy. This is in a 1st generation vehicle. http://www.deere.com/en_US/corporate/our_company/news_and_media/press_releases/2013/construction/2013feb6_woc_644k.page The big difference between commercial and "residential" if you will is that a commercial vehicle does work when it's not moving. In a general consumer application, if you engine is running and your not moving you are wasting money.

You need to make a simple syrup. It's so easy and the benefit of actually dissolving into the drink My Old fashioned consist of the following: A few shakes of bitters (I've never felt like I've overpowered it) Maraschino Cherry Slice of Orange (or sub orange liquor in a pinch) Ice Fill most of the rest of glass with bourbon One more Cherry Spash of Club Soda (I feel like carbonation enhances the flavor) Slice of Orange for garnish I use the ice to muddle the first ingredients and then stir a little after the club soda. Obviously our recipes are very different. I really like the way the fruit and club soda enhances the flavor. You are correct that great bourbon is not necessary. I pull out the Evan Williams Black Bourbon mostly for an old fashioned. the Bulleit 10 Year and Texas Bourbon are better enjoyed with a bit of ice.

While your statement is correct, your reasoning is fundamentally flawed IMO. Think about it this way. What if you could decouple the engine from the rear wheels? The easiest ways are electrically or hydraulically. If you can do this, you can run your engine optimally no matter how your wheels are turning. In an engine, base specific fuel consumption is largely governed by engine speed. If you are able to keep your engine speed the same and vary fueling based on torque demand you can increase fuel economy by much more than what you lose by converting rotational energy to some other energy and then back to rotational energy again. What you end up with is an overall gain in efficiency. Note that none of this takes into account any energy storage, which means no batteries, etc...

Just to be a negative Nancy, I really don't like smart wool socks. They seem to wear out quickly to me.Is there a general care tip for wool to make them last longer? wear shoes, stop walking around in your stockings. but they are soooooo comfortable. I do that in the winter.

Brisket came out awesome, even with the bit of rush. I'll start it early next time. I plan on using a good chunk of it as meat in a chili. Well see how it goes.

I was implying that they are treating it as if it's a common cold and not easily spread. We kept hearing how it would never reach the US. A week later, it was here. Now it's spreading like herpes, and they are fast tracking the "vaccine." This is reminiscent of the movie I am Legend if you think about it. I'm with Nem. Its been around for a while and then all of a sudden there is some awareness and we can't stop people from making stupid decisions that spread it.

7lb Brisket has been on for 9 hours and it's sitting at 170. It went from 40* to 160* in the first 4.5 hours and then 10* in the next 4.5 hours

I need to go back through my books, but I'm pretty sure over 99% of fuel is burnt each cycle. Yes, complete efficient combustion only produces 2 compounds, but there is also many other compounds in air. Nitrogen will always be present at 78% absorbing heat from combustion. The heat from combustion get's high enough to disassociate the compounds (i.e. N2 seperates into elemental Nitrogen) and then they quickly recombine creating NOx particles. There is also wave propagation in a combustion engine. The flame starts at one location and propogates through the combustion chamber. It is extremely hard to control the beginning and end of combustion where a lot of the inefficiencies exist. Also, there is a boundary layer at the walls of the piston stealing heat from the equation. Not to mention heat does not create power; Thermal expansion creates the linear power that is converted to rotational power. Looking at the image above you see that lean mixture results ins the best efficiency. Unfortunately lean conditions also result in the highest combustion temperatures (more fuel actually cools the combustion cylinder), the largest chance of dissociation and thus more chance of pollutants. There is so much more that I'm missing, but it's just been too long. I can promise you there is a lot of work done to get most out of the combustion chamber with out after treatment. My professor worked on Low Temperature Combustion, where fuel is injected into a diesel engine 6 times per cycle to control the burn rate. it reduces efficiency and power but controls temperature in such a way that reduces NOx emissions.
