LOL, $150 for repairs my ass. National average on a car with over 50k miles is $80/month MK, $200 a wk? The math will prove is almost every time, buying a second car, unless you get 2-3 times the mileage of the first, will not provide a savings, at least not within the first year or so. Tabs, liscence costs, you still have to change oil in the truck several times a year, so you just added oil costs. The only reason to buy a mileage effecient vehicle instead of your primary is if you want a different kind of vehicle, and to reduce the use of your baby. Not to mow you down but, you also talked about performance parts for the saturn too. even if it gets you another 2 mpg and 20hp, the it will take a heck of a long time to make even the cheepest air box at $50 bucks be paid back by 2mpg. Sry that was supposed to be $200 a month, but its still $2400 a year This car does get nearly 2x that of my truck Whats the point in adding the oil costs from my truck? I was doing them before hand now I'm just doing them less, because I drive it less, so thats more savings IMO. Same goes for all the taxes and such for the truck I payed them before no reason to add them again as an extra cost. And all the costs of the taxes and such from the Saturn are paid for in fuel savings. Insurance is one important thing but in my case, since we dropped a vehicle to add the saturn the cost is still the same, or less And yes, this new Saturn reduced the use of my baby I know performance parts rarely ever pay themselves back, but more performance is just fun , chances are I won't put anything performance on this car, unless its homemade or I just run into some money. If I wanted to fix this car up a new paint job would be top priority.

I've talked to my transmission rebuilder friend about the coasting in N in an auto, and he says that the pump will still provide enough fluid/pressure to get keep things ok in a coasting type situation. On every car I've ever driven, you had to push the button in to shift into R from N so it's not like it could just slip. Not all vehicles have buttons on there gear selectors though

Except for American V8's. Injectors are used at 100%, 100% of the time. Its just the american way

I feel ya. I want those as well but don't know if I have the funds. I really need to work on the Horn/10" setup for my buds house for parties and rock band instead. The BIB's just can't handle the drum line at higher voumes. I'm real cluless though on Horns.

I don't know though. That would be awesome if I'm capable of more. I've never driven a standard daily before so MPG could improve with my skills. But the car is really up on maintanence (or so it seems) I might throw in some new plugs, wires and such and see if I gain anything

SL2's get the lowest MPG's of any of the Saturns of that year model. Same size engine but 25 more HP

    Welcome to the IHoP

Ok, so now that I have an indication of my gas mileage and such for the saturn I have put together some numbers.... Constants Gas - $4.00 Z71 - 16 MPG SL2 - 29 MPG I average around 430 miles per week. (Drivng to and from work, driving to Baytown or else where on the weekends and Leisure travel) for the Z71 and SL2 that is 26.875 Gal and 14.333 Gallons respectively and $107.50/wk and $57.33/wk The difference comes out to about a $200 Saving per week and $2400/yr Ok so we need subtract cost of ownership $2400 -$120 (for oil changes) -$300 (Tires) -$150 (Repair and misc) -$90 (emissions and registration) (I think this is higher than what it really cost) =$1740 Now Subtract the cost of the car... -$1400 -$124 (TT&L) =$216 So in one year I am already ahead by $216 and the cost of tires is not a yearly occurrence and neither is the cost of the vehicle. Depreciation is not worth mentioning because the car is worth more than I bought it for and will be in the future with gas the way it is Insurance is not worth mentioning either because we dropped another vehicle for this one and the Saturn is cheaper. So in the next few years I should be saving quite a bit of money

From http://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=7714 post #2 I don't know how true it is but atleast they attempted a scientifical approach. People on FSC still refuse to believe it...

that is, of course, if the stock internals could handle something like that

Don't get me started on forced induction. With some tuning skills it would be so easy to turbocharge the Saturn

He has the 1.8. My saturn is a 1.8 as well (I know there different just saying they are the same size). I'd love to be able to see a solid 30. EPA rates it from 32-34.

Discussion over at FSC about the Coasting in N One guy said its better to coast in D I posted my findings disproving his theory He tells me not to believe everything I read on the internet. Then why should I believe you Fucktard! Atleast what I posted had some kind of experimental basis and not just a statement

    Welcome to the IHoP

I found that caosting in N is much more effective than coasting in D, atleast in the case of my truck

Got 29 MPG's in the Saturn! thats more than my new truck and old truck combined. Hopefully I can squeeze some more out of it. Possibly a little tune up. My buddy told me he gets 36MPG out of his Sentra. Said he did a couple things and messed with the duty cycle on the injectors. Got to see if I can poke some more info out of him
