I had always wondered about that before. Our evolution of eating has gone from 1 big meal (scavengers eating as much as they can and storing it as fat because of long intervals between meals) to 3 square meals a day to having 6 meals a day. I always wondered about sleep following suit.

Up to 85mi. Taken two days off since I bought the bike and one was yesteraday. Should break 100mi by tonight though. A little hard considering Aidan is sick and needs to be held non-stop. Wow, make me feel like a wimp. I've had my bike longer and am only at 70. I did, however, go out of town for over a week.

This is definitely the most pro-sugar talk I've ever seen that involves building muscle lol

Start with something insanely basic. 1 cup of this Bodybuilding.com - NOW Dextrose Powder - Corn Sugar! On sale now! With one scoop(provided in the tub) of this Bodybuilding.com - Syntrax Nectar - Best Tasting Protein! On sale now! That syntax looks good, and the dextrose is cheap, I may just try some out. I have some protein poweders building up at my place but they are cheap lol Nectrar tastes good. Like fruit. I always got apple myself. I used to take plain yogurt and add a scoop of the nectar product and that would be a really good breakfast. Then I got cheap as I was going through so much protein with 3 shakes a day so I switched to sci fit. It didn't taste half as good but it is dirt cheap. Thankfully I have always had an iron stomach and no protein ever bothered it. Some guys I knew could only have specific types that cost big $$. Is it bad to mix the protein powder with milk instead of water? I've found that it makes it taste 1,000 times better. I know it's lactose and not glucose, so a bit different sugar and perhaps not optimal? However, I've also found that it basically makes it impossible to do any more workout afterward because the milk just sits in my stomach and gives me a sideache. I'm not an advanced supplement guy, I only do the simple whey protein powder right after I lift. In this case, for post work out I don't like milk. It would add other vitamins/nutrients that you may not desire after a work out. For someone trying to learn what does and does not work, throwing in an extra variable isn't optimal. For me right after squats I would really dislike milk in my stomach unless it's ICE cold. The protein I linked called nectar tastes like fruit juice, it really does. It has a bit of after taste if you were to mix it alone, but not much at all. Also you will be adding even more sweetness and better mouth feel with the dextrose. That all said I have used milk as a post work out mixer just fine. Other than what I just mentioned there are a few things that tell me it's not "optimal" after a work out. A few reasons why..... lactose. Lactose doesn't spike insulin as much as dextrose. The higher the GI index the better. Lactose is 46. Dextrose is 100. Calcium. Calcium is important. Really important. I just don't think it is right after a work out. We were designed well by evolution. We need more calcium than any other mineral/vitamin(by volume), so if we take vitamins and calcium together there is a theory(studies too) that say calcium is "cherry picked" for digestion and other vitamins might be left out. In this case then the extra nutrients in milk might give show a larger or smaller benefit than if you left the milk out. Fat. Even skim milk has fat in it, and post work out, the less fat the better. Some people respond to it, but fat slows digestion. We want digestion as fast as possible. I know I'm nitpicking, but I have tried everything out there. For a starting point find out the perfect sugar:protein combo for your body and then modify it with different things. Sweet info dem beats. I guess I should clarify that my response was for the general case, not post-workout

I'm not an advanced supplement guy, I only do the simple whey protein powder right after I lift. Depending on your goals its perfectly fine. Milk has fat (which is good) and has slow burning proteins (hence the sits in your stomach), usually called Casein protein. They sell Casein protein by itself for people who want a slower burning protein. So a fast burning protein like whey, coupled with milk in the morning can give you a quick start with slow proteins that stay with you longer. My body owns lactose, really pretty sure in my younger years I could take down a gallon of milk and hold it down. I used to come in after being in 100*+ weather and drink a glass of milk while I was still sweating, and never had a problem.

I'm going to go ahead and throw my thanks in here to dem beats. Never thought of mixing powders to fit your style. I bought some of the P90X recovery drinks when I was doing it a while back and they use a 3.8:1 carb/protein ratio and I and my body always found it too sweet so I usually just mixed in some extra water. I have some cheap creatine/dextrose powder as well as some cheap protein. I usually don't use the creatine/dextrose because I don't lift much and usually could find other easy sources for carbs, and I usually don't use the protein because it taste terrible by itself, but now I'm starting to lift and I can mix a scoop of that with 4 oz of OJ and a scoop of Protein and it gives me about a 2:1 ratio which I find much more appealing.

Posting from the phone means more typos... By cheap I didn't mean low cost, I meant taste like shit mostly lol

For me, biking actually started as my cross training activity. I'm doing some running events this summer, so I'll have to tailor my training more to running as I need more running training than biking. My heart rate stays much lower on the bike and my legs can pump through anything. Running is a whole different ball game for me with the elevated heart rate and being harder on my body, and since I'm running a lot of 5Ks this summer I'm going to try to just get faster in those, instead of pumping out a lot more distance.

Ha, my bad. Thought you were joking. I'm going to approach it the same way I approach my running for the most part. Train 5 days a week something like this... Sunday - RestMonday - Bike X miles.Tuesday - Interval Training. (Total is usually ~1.25*X to 1.5*X total for this day) 1/8*X at high intensity followed by 1/8*X at lower intensity Repeat 6 times (Alternate weeks - 1/4*X higher followed by 1/8*X lower Repeat 4)Wednesday - Rest or cross train.Thursday - Bike X miles.Friday - Bike 2/3*X to 3/4*X miles.Saturday - Bike (1+1/8)*X miles. Goal is to increase this distance every week then the next week, it is your new X. This works well up until a point but when you start getting to longer distances the week is usually a series of smaller rides (Say 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/3 of your long ride, then your long ride) Just throwing out numbers there but something general like that.

Not sure if I posted them here, but I meant to... This is my new Trek 1.2 Super fun bike Hitting 30 mph on flat land on a bicycle is sweet! Also got this bike for free this weekend! It's a ton of fun just to put around the yard at my home in Baytown considering the roads aren't as great. I also have a run/ride coming up that I needed a mountain bike for and I think this will do the trick. When did you pick up the 1.2? Not too long before you picked up your bike. Going to start training to do a couple 100 mile runs this summer

Not looked in forever. I am a huge fan of buying an enclosure and the drive separately. Short term it may not be quite as cost effective (used to be cheaper), but long term when you upgrade it will. A 1TB and an enclosure should do well. I need a new pair of drives as well, so perhaps I'll look within a few days. This is for my dad, and he's just looking for a plug and play thing. I got my Seagate 320 that I like but was thinking about going USB 2.0 powered
