I was going to say you should go buy it for a good price for me and I would pay you a little extra but the author deleted it. There is nothing like that around here. In fact a canon 40D is listed for $100 more on Craigslist on average than ebay.

Sorry, I meant that as a joke. I can see how my ignorance in other aspects of photography may not make that seem like a joke.

But it's so much easier to go looking for the body. Moar megapixels = better right? Initially you said, if you have to go zoom, but are there some prime lenses I should be looking into as well?

A lot of body for that, but I'd buy a lens. You mean that's a good price for the body? I'm trying to get an understanding of what a good deal really is. Also its hard to shop for a lens and all the ones you listed come in around $700 You referenced a budget of around $500. Should net you a $700 lens used with a rather old body. True, I cant even find one though selling for that low currently. May be able to nab a 40D with a 50 1.8 II prime for sub $300 with 10 months left on a square trade warranty. The one in NE err East? Just says US

For instance if it was (X+13)/2=21 then X would equal 29

Maybe it was supposed be divided by something.

This is pretty much what I started with after taking the lumber to my boss' house to use his miter and table saw.

Also, a family friend took Photo's at our wedding with a P&S style camera and we chose some of hers over our photographers because sometimes she just got the better picture.

The wife and I tend to have the opposite problem. At the end of the day... Why didn't we take any pictures?!?

T3 w/ 18-55 $350

40d for $260?
-
That should be uber cheap. $100 with no lens if that. I'd personally spend more.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-EOS-Digital-Rebel-Digital-Rebel-XTi-400D-10-1-MP-Digital-SLR-Camera-/221245496722?pt=Digital_Cameras&hash=item3383425d92

The wife and I are both horrible at remembering to take pictures. She wants to get a camera to use for occasions, vacationing, etc. I would assume plenty of landscapes, buildings, pictures of the two do us taken by someone else, etc. Budget... I was thinking 500-600 but she thinks its too much for a camera. She also wants to be able to point and shoot and not worry about all the settings. I want good pictures and would love to play around with it.

Defeats the purpose. Point & shoot or DSLR. Of course the caveat being if you can live with a single prime. Can you go into detail more on living with a single prime? Wife already is balking on the idea because we don't "need" one for what we do. ie, no zoom whatsoverBut do you mean buying a camera that has a non removable prime lense?

Really don't know at this point. Savings was a bit wiped out by everything going on the last few months.
