how much power are you feeding your magnum?
harold replied to tryatt's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
600 watts to my 15 mag. -
i agree with stangme, i have 2.37 cubes after displacement and it sounds unbelievable. the low end is much better than at 2 cubes to my ears at least.
-
definitely go with the 12''. you will be amazed at how great this thing hits. i have mine in a 2.3 cubes sealed after displacement and man does it sound unbelievable. better than any other w7 i've heard to date. just seal it to 1.5-2 cubes and you will be ready to go.

the sub will not have a problem with 1500 watts. but just to give you an idea of how loud it's going to be: i send 600 x 1 @ 4 ohms to my 15'' mag and anything above 50 (out of 80) on my volume is way too loud for me. although i'm more sq oriented anyway so that makes a difference. you will be unbelievably pleased either way trust me.
-
yes, as stangme stated, 1000 watts is plenty for most people w/ a mag. and if i were you i would just go for 1 12''. the only difference between the 12'' and the 15'' is the ability to get louder and go lower sq-wise they are the same. that's a quote from the owner of SI who invented the magnum. but if you have a couple months to wait then why not. i'm not as patient as you though thats why i suggest the 12''.

while we're on this question, can someone remind me if the magnum can be wired to 600 x 1 @ 4 ohms?
-
well in Nick's (owner of SI) description between the 15'' and the 12'' is that the 15 will just get louder and go lower. they have the same sound just louder and lower for the 15 but not by much. correct me if i'm wrong nick. i would definitely go with a 12'' before they are gone as well.

okay i will be getting everything that's in my room installed either today or tomorrow depending on the shop's availiability. but i would really like to know how to stuff my box with polyfil. i went to wal-mart and found that they come in pillow shapes like 12 x 8 or somethin and they are different sizes. now am i supposed to just buy a couple of those and cut them open and dump what's inside into my box or what? i have a 2.3 cubes sealed box after displacement. how many of these things should i buy? now this question should probably be somewhere else but hey i'm using stereo integrity products so i thought i'd just get all the help i can at once. since i will be getting it 'professionally' installed, what should i tell them about my stuff. i want an sq application and here is what i have: single 15'' mag D2 in a sealed 2.37 cubes after displacement box focal utopia 136W speakers which i want in stock locations a single srx-series audison amp which puts out 170 x 2 @ 4 ohms a single srx-series audison amp which puts out 600 x 1 @ 4 ohms my HU will be an eclipse 8443 this will all be going in a 00 nissan maxima with bose in stock for sound. with these products should i just hand them the specs of each and tell them how i want everything wired or is there anything special that i should tell them to do? please just tell me anything you guys can about getting your high quality stuff professionally installed thanks.

where is a quality place to put my crossovers. i was just going to put them in the door but if that isn't the best place what are some other options? also, do you have any suggestions on the polyfill issue. do i just go to wal-mart and buy the pillow that the polyfil comes in and just cut it open and dump it in my box or what? thanks.

is this because you like the sound of the XXX or because you like how obnoxiously loud it can get? just wondering why a lot of peopler are saying they would take the XXX over any other sub if all were for free.
-
that was a bit feminine if i do say so myself.
-
yes i dont know why we hardly ever hear reviews of the magnums. thanks for the post, it was a good read. can't wait to get mine installed. hey cjj2 you can still hear your vocal can't you? I mean the mag doesn't drown out all the vocals like in most of the setups i've heard. also how do those hex comps sound?
-
that was fast. are you planning on getting some more made?
-
this question is specifically for someone involved with SI. is it safe to say that our mags (those that preordered) 15'' D2's will be here sometime this week? i know your busy nick, but i just had to ask. sorry.
-
Is that as far as SQ or SPL? I will be running mine in an SQ application, I hope it can sound as good as the 12'' like stated on the SI page. Is yours ported or sealed and in how many cubes?
-
x 2. let us know how yours sounds.
-
yes, perhaps. but in the original post it talks about a 15''.
-
more than 2 cubes ported, you will need at least 4 cubes. at least that's what SI recommends.
-
hah that's good. I love hearing stories about people with mainstream stuff then hearing some of these "internet" brands. good stuff.

is the PG tantrum 1200W too much for a magnum 15'' D2? I've seen some birthsheets that have 1500+ watts on this amp. I want real nice SQ in this setup any other suggestions under $400 for an amp? thanks.

i've been waiting since December:). can't wait.
-
3 weeks? that's a bit of a stretch i'm guessing. let's just let people on the inside answer this one.
-
can't help you with the box, but Gnome's site is www.gnomeaudio.com. he makes awesome boxes as i'm sure you know. mine should be here early next week:).
-
either would be fine, i'd probably go a little bigger like 2.3-2.5 just for increased output since there is more air but i may be wrong. mine is going in a 2.3 cu ft. sealed.
