Hi I got a pair of the original 15 fi Q (without any options) in 2007. Now I'm planning to use it as my home theater sub. Would it be possible to build a recone (15") that can have a response between 20-100hz and power handling is between 800-1000w. Each sub must have a dual 4 ohm impedence. This sub in mainly for sub duty so I will be looking at strong lows. Other details would be: i. Both sub are placed in a ported 10 cu.ft tuned at 20hz ii. Will be powered by a crown xls2000 PA amp iii. Mostly for home theater (movies) where lots bass as low as 15hz What wold be the cost drop in 2 sets of recones for this thanks

If these can handle 4 saz1500d with 33hz then I want a 22"

Is the new Q are similar from the old ones. I had the first 15q with no option. Was thinking of adding another 2.

I have 2 15Q (1st gen with no options) with 2 saz1500d and it gets hot over a short period of heavy bass music. I was wondering is there any way I can increase the power handling of the sub. I am not from the US so to ship the motor over to get the partial BP would be expensive. would it be possible to use the BTL spider on the Q or other options? I know changing the spider would increase Fs and Qts but would it be significant? thanks

the BL has more motor force than the Q so it has more SPL per stroke than the Q. Higher Xmax allows you to play lower freq. at high Db. You can see that the Q has lower Fs than the BL.

Would this options be applicable to the original Q (when there is no options available)? I ran it with the SAZ1500d and it does get hot. So a cooling option on this on recones would be good.

how musical is the warden? would it comparable to the btl?

Guys Prob havent post for over a year now, thats because I have kept all my things in the closet and lost touch about car audio while playing mafia wars LOL. My question are: i. How long does a sub magnet stays magnetize? In my place 33c-35c is considered a normal sunny day. ii. Does heat from the sun + heat from playing music will effect the magnet strength? iii. Does keeping the sub in the closet (its bare and I didnt put it in the box) will have other effects like rust, deterioration of rubber, spider getting weaker etc? Btw I own 2 15Q's which I bought back in 2007

What would be the threshold temperature of the magnets?

Scott / Anyone I had emailed Scott about this but I'll post here. Basically my questions is as below. I would like to seek help on my Q15 enclosure. I had builded a 3.65 cu.ft @ 34hz for the Q15. My specs and measurement as follows: Net Volume: 3.65 cubic feet Tuning Frequency: 34 Hz Port Width: 5.25 inches Port Area: 86.625 Square Inches Port Length: 47.5 inches External Dimensions: 34 wide x 18 tall x 22.75 deep Now, after installing and basically setting the amp crossover, subsonic filter and gains I found that the bass was muddy at times and lacked the lows. So I checked my amp setting even using scope just to make sure it does not clipped or distort. After listening to some song, it sounded a bit better, louder but lacked the lows and not clean. I crossed my LPF at 80hz and my HPF at 60hz. I always depends on WinISD for building my enclosure but facing problems when trying to key in the Q specs. So I relied with http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/ported...mp;Fs=&CE=0 for my designs. My question is: 1) Does bigger port area makes the sub muddy? 2) Does my tuning freq. is too high? 3) Does my enclosure design is totally wrong? I planned to build another enclosure for it. The max I can go is 34 wide x 18 tall x 22.75 deep and I would tuned it something like 30hz. Any idea on the port dimension (width, height and lenght) ? Thanks Wynold

I'm not speaking about the whole xbl^2 driver but I did listen to my bro brahma mk1. While its bottm end is sweet, it has problem keeping up with the high. IIRC Wiggins mentioned that you need a dedicated midbass to match with the Brahma and then came out the extremis.

A friend of mine had bought the new mag paired with the Sundown SAE1000. Now this is the first sub that he owns and this is the first time I seen a mag. After searching in vain for box recommendations, I seem to have the conclusions that the mag is for sealed enclosure based on the recommended box volume on their site. Does anyone knows would it shine in ported as well? If yes what would it be the ideal volume and tuning? Also he would like more output in his sub so I might design a ported box for him.

well with port lenght of 25" i've got 33hz with net volume of 6.65 cu ft. You need 27.5" port lenght to give you 32hz with net volume of 6.56 cu.ft
-
uhmm you have the box dimension?
-
Thank all, I bet he will be disappointed with the sub output and I will be waiting to buy it from his hands soon. Would anyone can compare them to the Brahma mk1. I only had a chance to play with a 15 brahma (actually two) powered by the trusted revo amp. And the brama did excellent in both ported and sealed.

Well he bought that sub already and I didnt even know about it until few days ago when he received it. Thats where I got the box recommendation. Anyone else tried ported? I remember someone did a ported box review on them but couldnt find it.

autotek 4000.1d
appleyard replied to ChiTownTBird312's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Doesnt hurt to run 1500w on the BTL's. You could always increase efficiencies by building a larger ported box. There are more ways to get loud, either by lots of power or by having a large ported box or even both. -
how to meassure rms on a amp??
appleyard replied to XxedgarxX's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I would go with 2500w rms instead as power at birtsheet are rated at 14.4v. -
Any idea what box would you fit in? Also what amp would you power this sub?
-
Still surprise why ppl still relate the brahma with spl. IIRC Scottie J tested the brahma and tempest in SPL applications and the tempest was louder. I would get the mag without hesitate .... if only they have 15 or 18.

IIRC Scott mentioned that the SX has more motor force than the Q but less than the BL.

Charging 2nd battery
appleyard replied to appleyard's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
It floats around 14.4-14.6v for slow charging and around 15.5-16v for fast charging. Guess I should unhook them first for safety measure. -
I installed 3 batteries which one in the engine compartment and another 2 in the boot. Since I owned a small car, I cramped those batteries on the side of the box and its almost impossibel to take them out without taking the whole enclosure with it. So my question is it safe to charge the battries while it is still connected to the amp and the front battery or should I unhook all cables before charging the batteries.

uhhmm remembered a single 18 BTL did 170 with the JBL crown, but I forgot who.
