I build boxes. It can be quite easy - or a PITA. What tools do you have? What setup are you planning on(subs, amps, car, etc.)?

Should i amp my front or rear 6.5s?
duanebrow replied to Briggiboy33's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
You can try it. If it sounds worse then you are at least wired up for another amp. -
Fwiw, I know that you are not planning on using any filters on the speakers. If you don't like how they sound I can most likely find out what they need with out measuring. Many people have used those drivers so an answer should be out there. (If you are close, (I live in MI) I have a measurement system.)

Love the PC board. I would like to make something like this some day.

cadstd is free. WinISD has a learning curve, so if you use it and get your driver loaded post again with your questions. -
Ported Enclosure for Component woofers?
duanebrow replied to ShagggDiesel's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
The speakers linked are ok. Build a .5cf sealed box for them, corner load them for more bass. If you want to use what you have don't port them, it won't help. sealed will be the best. -

Sketchup sucks, next time try a 2d cad program. cadstd is very simple. As far as the box what are you using to model it? You need to size the ports for the amount of power used. It is easiest to use WinISD for this, you can find it on Facebook. That should be able to answer your questions about how big the port needs to be. -
When people say use birch, they mean baltic birch. It is 13 ply and void free - and cost about $70 a sheet. The birch part doesn't matter. It is just what veneer is used. I'm cheap so I use the 9 ply A/C plywood at Home Depot. Way better than MDF. It is about $45 a sheet. Mdf is $32 Marine grade plywood = Baltic Birch = 13 ply void free, FWIW

A bit more money but way better speaker: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-702 If you can build the box your self you can get the kit for 125 with out it. Also what are you looking for, price, size, what is important to you?

SPL, Although all the tabs will give useful info. You should play with the size and tuning of the box to see if one of these likes a different box. And check on the excursion also. If you go to WinISD's Face Book page you can dl the latest version of the software. I really like it but you might have to reenter the drivers.

That is a MA Audio 1800 xl 18" woofer. The box uses 6 braces, 4 are window pane type. Nothing real fancy, 6cf @34hz. Only 58" of port area but it works in this case. I have some build pics at my FB page.

How did he do the 45's on the port? I have never seen that before. Looks great.

Very cool. I love it!

Just caused they are designed by the same person doesn not mean they share the same design. Different subs with different goal that share a common rms number or price tag (give or take a few bucks). Please don't take it as they are all the same. They are not. I didn't mean to make it sound like that. This is why I would like some one to compare them.

I thought I should share this video about diet
duanebrow replied to duanebrow's topic in Hall Of Fitness
ok, so it is a bit lame. The general idea is that the junk we eat is killing us. By eating lots of veggies and natural meat we will be healthier. If you have a hard time giving up chicken nuggets just search for mechanically separated chicken - nasty stuff. -
I saw this video this morning and thought someone might at least use a bit of the info in their quest to become healthier. Before you click in the link and think - wtf is this crap - it is about a doc that over comes MS, by changing her diet. Give it a look and let me know what you think. http://www.terrywahls.com/current-information (If the link doesn't work let me know)

skar subs were also designed by the same person. If you look at the three, you will see some of the same "designs" used. All are good subs. I think that they will a sound similar. Also none of them are made in the USA. I would guess they are all made in the same build house. I would like to see a comparison between these.

+1 What enclosure/box are you planning for these.
-
+1 You need the right enclosure, what did you have in mind?
-
Nothing. He's being retarded. Ah alright. Thanks. So do you guys think that the audiopipe 1500d is a good option for an amp? If you have it, use it. Just make sure to set the gains correctly.
-
But the amp is up side down! All the db's are going to fall out! LOL! Just messing with you. I have never had a problem with an amp mounted to a box. If your box flexes enough to break the amp you need a better box!
-
You should just start a new topic. It can be if you want, or don't do it right. They are very picky about getting everything correct. But they can have a flat response if done well.
-
That is just sad, I noticed he never turned it on. (I'm guessing the car didn't run)
-
You MIGHT have a problem with "cancellation" because the port and sub are so far apart. You might want to look into a T-line box. There is software that can model this type of setup, but it is not free. WinISD will be off.
