well assuming your gonna run a beefy electrical system first and foremost, Ie 250-300A alt, second or even third batt., ect.... yeah, two btl's will rock of of 2k a piece. I'd look hard at the Nightshades though, they have been putting up some impressive numbers... or even some Incriminator Audio Death Penalty's... either way.... stay away from MTX, RF, JL... ect. you can do way better here.

re audio.com has a box builder... you'll learn how to tweak it in a couple of minutes, very easy.

The problem with using handloads for self defense is that they are a liability when you have to defend yourself in court, both criminal and civil. That's something that you have to consider when you carry; the possible repercussions of having to use the weapon. well considering one of the few boxes of factory .380 loads that I did buy... had a 9mm round in it, I will trust my handloads over factory. thats one big plus in my favor at the stand. reloading is far more economical, and allows me to practice a lot with the same loads I carry, also a big plus. its perfectly legal to deer/duck hunt with reloads... I see no difference. a bullet, is a bullet, factory or handload. doesnt make it any more deadly. i suppose the gov./anti's want you to use factory loads, so they can keep raking in the taxes that they raised on them... funny last research paper that I did on guns, the surplus ammo taxes ( some $45-55 million If I remember right) somehow disappeared... odd? so much for the wetland/wildlife habitat reconstruction it was originally planned for.

well the P11 is damn good, and another great choice.... there are sooo many... which is why we are all here stating opinions... right? Is the PF9 the new single stack.... that isnt even out in stores yet... with no reviews...? well Im sure its great and all but still new.... and yeah a step up from the P3AT, for grip and power ... sure. trust me Im all about power... I have a 45, 10mm, 10 ga., .338 Lapua... the list goes on... specialty guns for sure. but I would not want to get tagged by one of my keltek loads, a 90gr Golddot @ 1100 fps... I havent had any problems with it, but the things soo damn light I can where it in my boxers and not even notice... I guess thats why I like it so. I couldnt do that with my 45 or 10mm. and if you want to talk about internal wound ballistics, which i have gone over this thread now that I have been called out,...I have talked for hours with my military PJ buddy, and shoot many o' milk jugs and such... I'd take two .380 holes over one .45 acp all day long. ok so the .380 isnt the best primary... thats not what I said, its my best choice for summer carry, when its 90+ deg. and Im in shorts and chit. I love talking guns... Or more to the point shooting with friends. It is my one true passion in life, and respect everyones views... to each their own.

US-Amps VLX-400 VS. Sundown SAZ-3000D
brent338 replied to brent338's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
cool. yeah the downsides to the US amp, are the A/B class current draw, and size for sure.... Im still leaning hard to sundown, its hard not to. might have the funds shortly now.... -
US-Amps VLX-400 VS. Sundown SAZ-3000D
brent338 posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
so I was just curious, as to the pros and cons of either amp... or what US amp would compare to a sundown, or if the even can be compared... I just keep hearing from a buddy, who seems to know more than me about car audio, that the old US stuff is hard to beat. -
well If your talking a purley deffensive gun, then accuracy doesnt matter.... 7 feet average engagement. and like I said before, reliablility can be solved with polishing the whole barrel... just pull your out and look at the machining marks left behind... dont think those will mess with reliability... your kidding me. polish the whole outside of the barrel( I said above how to), kinda like most match guns come... then see how many problems you have... i bet none. wow.... I give up... meat me at the range and we'll see whats up... k? I'll just go back to banging steel @ 1,000 yds with my handloaded .338 Lapua... I hand load for every gun I own... do you? yeah I dont know anything about guns... Don't mind me.

wow.... ok you got me... not same hole, so what. but damn close. and as far as sub-sub compact goes for a newb...its better than getting something tooo big and leaving it at home. look at the P3AT sales, you cant argue that its damn popular. yeah some people have problems with them , but then some people dont know what they are doing... I have had two of them, the 1st had problems, and was terribly inaccurate past 7 yds, but thats all cuz of the sight. I saw crimson trace made a grip for it, so did some more researching, on the jambing problems that most have had. polish the barrel ( THE WHOLE BARREL NOT JUST THE FEED RAMP), or shoot it to death.... and it works fine. so theres that covered. I put on the lazer, it was dead nuts on at 15 paces... I mean turn a beer can on its side, " drink a few first dont waste any beer!" and IF you can manage the trigger... It goes where the dot is... tried picking out dime sized knots on a tree, fishing the other week... still right there. The main problem is trying to manage the terrible trigger, but its a carry gun and thats not the place for light triggers.... I have only shot it a couple of times, still quite new. but I'm damn impressed... Its on me all summer long, when the weather gets colder, I switch back to my XD-45/G20 10mm... sure. I have better, bigger, and possible more accurate guns yeah, but 80% of the time I grab the keltek. next time I got to a real range, with real ranged measured and set targets, I'll shoot a group @ and put up the pic./vid here... K? BTW I shoot with, or should I say; out-shoot a ex Airforce PJ... oh yeah he has tons of guns as well, and guess what he carry's most of the time? And who turned him onto it...? I guess what I'm trying to say is that IMO, its the BEST carry gun, for the price, for most people, new or expert. because its always gonna be there when you need it. but by all means if he has $1000 to blow... go get a Khar., or maybe a S&W scandium/titanium 357.

Bigjon... Get a Keltec P3AT, with crimson trace lazer... it will be bout $400. it weights next to nothing... so you have no excuse to not have it on you. It is more than enough for deffensive shooting... Ie 7 feet, although with the lazer we were dead nuts on at 15 yards or more. I mean same hole... I could not do that with my glocks or springfield XD if I tried. And with GoldDot HP's its more than enough stopping power... I stress golddots... "bonded bullets" well,... electronically platted, more reliable expansion.... Its a little rough, and might take a few hundred rounds to break in... or do what I did, and (lightly!) sand polish the barrel, 600 grit wet/dry then up to 1500, with some oil. then grab the dremel & cloth bit, and use some jewelry rough, " home-depot" and presto... it looks nickel plated, and operates smoother than silk...

Car suggestions for sound pressure
brent338 replied to Adrian_D's topic in Automotive and Performance
yeah... a old buddy in H.S. had a crx, and two soundstream spl 8"s.... that woulda made most dual 12"s and even 15"s run in fear... -
well if $500 is all you want to spend on a sub, and asuming that you arent going to upgrade the electrical much... I'd stick with no more than 1500 rms amp (1500 sundown...hint hint), that leaves you with... ICON HAVOC FI BL FI Q those would be my first choices... take your pic on size... If you can fit an 18", you probably could fit two 15"s and be a bit louder...
-
hmmm... different for sure.... I liked the old version, but could get used to this as well... change is good.

loadboss, alt-start works good for me soo far, great price, lifetime warr.

looking for a new amp
brent338 replied to basshead08's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Sundown SAZ-1500D...on sale now. just spend the little extra to get what you really want... something that will last, take abuse, and sound damn good. stay far away from hifonics, soundstream... and some of those US AMPS have shady backgounds, the new ones arent any better that the rest of the mainstream. -
Pete K. does good work... especially horn designs looking good so far.

well I listened to Focal's, Boston's, and MB Quarts. top brands in my area at the time. I ended up going with the MB Quarts QSD 216's, you can snag them on ebay for like $300 a set. (they wanted $1500 in the store) they just sounded best to me... thats what you should go off of, what sounds best to you... all of these brands are pretty good, respectable co.'s, but each person has individual tastes. knowing what I know now, I woulda gone active...sounds way better than passive x-overs... did it in my rear MB's. hmmm maybe a pair of sundown 100.4's in the near future...

subs & mids @ ear level... looking good man!!! keep 'em coming.

lost power....
brent338 replied to brent338's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
well, pulled the board from the amp for a close look... seems repairable to me... to be honest, looks like an identical repair to the Orion 2500d on DB-R.com amp repair log. one rail looks perfect, the other has several blown FET's, and toasted a few of the same gate drive and pulldown 1/8 watt resistors. the guy that looked at it said, it burned threw the board, the whole rail was toast... no way to fix, and no guarantee that it would even work... board looks perfect. might be a lot of work, but looks fixable to me...but I dont know crap about fixing amps so... maybe someone could point me in the right direction, on how to learn. that or send it in to DBR -
Lately more and more... its seems that my subs have been losing power. checked amp grounds, re-did em' and sanded well. tightend terminals on rear battery; a Kinetik 2400HC. still nothing... hard to explain, I think my kinetik is shot...but it really isnt that old, nor have I been that hard on it. to help; -230A alt. -yellow top up front - 1/0 wire under hood, and back to rear bat. with 300A breaker. - 1/0 to 300A breaker, to distro, to orion 2500d. it was loud a few weeks ago... so much, it blew the light off the ceiling, and a grill of of my MB Quart's of front in the doors.... it was kinda an of and on thing, so I thought it might be a bad ground/connection, but lately its been getting worse. Ideas?

brent338 replied to brent338's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
might have to do that... I just picked up a cheapo meter the other day... $20, its a INNOVA 3310, from shucks. will it work? something to learn on I guess... it cant be that hard I bet, once you get the basics down. -
Stetsom 7KD
brent338 replied to TribeamConnek's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
looks goo to me. amplifiers forum right...? or did it get moved? anyway, I did a little research on the amp today...more threads are pretty active and I have never heard of it before. It seems to be a damn nice amp, with a very strong, loyal following. some compare to sundown if not better... but it is pricy. I found one stated to put out 8500 rms on a standard 12v system... not bad. me... I'll stick with sundown... better support.
