Look what showed up at my door today

Besides a 2,000 dollar 7kw amplifier would be cheap by the industry standards, considering DD gets almost that for a z1a. And that is only half the power (give or take a bit).

Look at amps like the cactus 7kw and atomic 7kw... Not a huge buying crowd, but those that have them love them, and weren't afraid to dish out the dough.

    Best SPL Sub

ON the contrary I believe that the btl has too stiff of a suspension for street classes (at least A and B ) and benefits from gobs of power being thrown at it.

best way to square cut tube??

That would be one ridiculously large band saw. Every band saw I have used has about 6 inches of cutting depth. A 13 inch diameter tube is pucking huge. Hmmm, don't run very big machines do you.... The bandsaw's we use in construction for removing/ cutting pipe can only can on average 5-6 inches in diameter piping. I have used skid-steers and all, but my uncle gets to play with the big machinery. The biggest thing I have ever used was a dump truck, you know the ones that dot uses that have 4 seats and you need a cdl to drive (*although I don't have my cdl either, construction is a family thing and more of a hobby for me as I work full time in a hospital.)

It would require a specially tooled extra height heatsink, but there is no reason why it couldn't be done. than market it as a bridgeable sundown saz-6000d. LOL that would be one killer amp in the lanes for street competitors limited to one battery and car off. A pair of saz-6000d's (note that this is not representitive of an actual sundown product, more of a wish). Jake, Could this be made to be strappable? An already internally strapped amplifier could not be made strappable without making further modifications to the current design. If you were to do so the end result amplifier would work at a 4 ohm load to achieve 1 ohm per amplifier, or a 2 ohm load for 1/2 ohm per amplifier since these are "series strapped" amps. That is NOT something I would want to build. Having one fry would be a nightmare warranty wise... thats a VERY expensive paper-weight I am going to think long and hard before making anything over an SAZ-3000D. A larger amp that that is going to have a high failure rate when people put them on lacking electrical systems... I honestly think that is why HiFonics has such a problem with the Goliath amps failing. You could always sell them as Fi sells the BTL's with no expressed warranty beyond arriving in working condition. Seriously though Jacob, I think a 5 or 7kw ampliier should be in the mill for the 09-10 season.

    Best SPL Sub

The point is that no matter how many variables you eliminate, there just isn't a best sub for anything. Hell there isn't even a best sub that I would rather piss on than listen to.

    3000d ???

I am forgoing the 3000d route for now. Will definitely have a few of them as my sister is getting into dB drag next year with me, and will have 2 cars to build.... Funnn! Plus there aren't enough shows left that I can attend to get me a finals invite, so I will save some hotel/ gas money and reinvest it in 3000d's, wiring and such. Not to mention hopefully a small hatch for me, and a 2 door cherokee for her, or a older dodge b-van. Would love to do something similar to bob's from team 420, but with only 4 woofers to stay out of his class as he is hitting mid to high 60's. I am also working on getting a "super spl" 10" woofer designed. And will hopefully have a few to help out fellow team members running 10" woofers.

sorry, that came off as me trying to brag. I was just trying to make a point on your comment about heavy cones and large motors.

    All Shall Fear Me now...

I think the ten's that are being made for me are bigger than your subs, more efficient, and will be quite damn impressive, too bad I won't be seeing them till around november, but I am not rushing the guys working on my subs as I wan't the best compromise between efficiency and power handling, as each woofer will be sitting on ~ 4000 watts rms of amp. My magnets are huge, lol. 10.1" diameter magnet on a 10" woofer. But I am basically paying more than what a normal customer buying the same woofer except for the custom basket and cone would be paying for a 15" version of my woofer.

    Welcome to the IHoP

what're you thinkin of? Something old you've gotta give me more details than that Okay, most likely something from 1965 - 1969. Thinking about something that I can customize a bit more than a Pantera. I really want one, but don't think I will have 80g's laying around to do what I need to anytime soon. Less of a sacrifice to do something more common. As for the details I am really not sure what I want yet. It depends on the availability of good SLA suspension parts Bang for the buck engine and transmission Looks & i prefer a bit of originality and something that I can add my own flair to I'd prefer dual 18's IB as well with a three way front stage Drivetrain and suspension will probably make the pick for me. Might I add, American built! All I could think when you wrote this was chevy corvair wagon.

what an odd silence, I checked the hop @ 4 am and no new posts since then. Well I am definitely ending this silence @ 6:55 est. As I am off to work. (Such a god awful early hour as I am the over-night guy.) I am normally getting off of work right now. Talk about screwing with the body.

What on earth kind of setup costs upwards of $60k??? And what in the world kind of system takes 6-8 months to do. There are shops that can build a car from scratch in less than that time frame. If someone told me I'd have to spend that kind of money to get the system I wanted I'd order myself a set of Sennheiser headphones instead. Seriously though, that must be one krazy sound system he has in that car. Don't forget to buy yourself some earplugs to go along with that system. It actually just breaks the 135 mark on its current set-up as it maxes out points at 130. The subs are in infinite baffle. Almost every panel in the car has been modified and or built for scratch. This is of course talking 6-8 months of his spare time. We are not talking about a shop of multiple installers working on said vehicle. We are also talking about 100 dollars an hour labor fee as everything is custom, all the way down to the headliner in his car, wiring done properly etc... Some people see a 22,000 dollar install rate and think...wtf. But if you think about it, that is only 2200 man hours. Not just building, but tuning, perfecting etc. We are also talking about all high end wiring, (pear-cable) which isn't cheap, a lot of glass work, custom door panels, custom rear seat/ amp rack, custom kicks, horn placement, custom dash work, custom center console, re-building the car from the behind the gas tank to support the torque of an ls1 motor and still be open enough to support infinite baffle and so on. I absolutely love his car, and quite frankly, if he ever does decide to sell it, I will probably buy it. If you think about it, it has been an ongoing project for him for at least the 3 years that I have known the car. Almost everything in his car isn't an off the shelf part, except for the h701 and c701, alpine head unit, and the tru amps. Some of the things I love about his car is just sitting in their and listening to a recording that was done in a live setting and hearing the guy sitting next to you sneezing, or the soloist tapping his foot as he is just cruising through his solo. AND let me not forgot single digit frequencies complements of pipe organs that shake you without hearing a sound.

-John When I asked him what it would cost me if I bought a camaro for him to build me the same set-up... including install costs and paying for things at cost... Not to mention getting image dynamics to build me a pair of 18d's (which aren't made anymore). He said I was looking at around 19 grand just for equipment, ~10 grand for the car, ~1800 for sound deadenning, and about 22,000 in install. Grand total for a re-creation of his car is ~60,000 when all miscellaneous tid-bits are calculated. Ohh, and 6-8 months of him working on the car.

another amp that I am sure you would love to have would be a diamond d7054 for fronts, and while it only does 50x4, it does it very well. I happen to know where you can get one of these bnib for ~400 plus shipping from an authorized dealer. I walk past it every day trying not to buy it.

Eclipse does make good head-units, but after 2005 they have gone more flashy and less sq oriented. If I started over again I would a pioneer navi piece, and get the apline h701 with the controller for processing. Than look for a set of dls, dynaudio etc... mid bass's, and some great tweets, and play around with time alignment and eq. Be sure to use an oscilloscope for setting your gains for ultimate sq, as well as using an rta and saving those settings somewhere if you plan on going to comps. I would do compression horns instead of tweets if it were me. Image dynamics cd1 pro's or cd2's if you have the money. Than for woofers I would put them in a large box (either sealed almost large enough to be considered infinite baffle, or ported to 22 hz or so.) or infinite baffle. You will easily spend close to a 1000 dollars on sound deadening. There are just so many options when you make the leap towards ultimate sq. To give you an example of a budget, my buddies expert Iasca car is ~ 16 grand not including any install costs at all.) As for high output alternators, Dominic Irragi, or ohio gen which will be more expensive but they are probably the best at high output alts in a longevity point of view. *imo*
