You aren't kidding. If he had just shut the horns underneath off, it wouldn't have been bad. The horns just became annoying. The bass wasn't bad though.

He was giving a sticker, that I saw for sure. Don't know if it was a requirement to pay for the demo though.
  4. never bought plexi before...guessing i could probly get any thickness, you have any idea on the thickness? thx for the help man! A lot will depend on the size of the panel. Usually a small box with subs not running on a lot of power you can get away with 1/2", but honestly the thicker the better. If you have access to 3/4" even better. The sandwiching trick he mentioned earlier will work really well too, like he said though, really depends on your skills.
  5. Doesn't really sound any different, other than you may be able to hear a little motor noise if the sub makes any. As far as mounting the plexi, you need to pre-drill and screw, usually use a countersink type bit and then use a seal in between the plexi and the wood you are mounting it to.

Yeah it was a pretty great show, best I've seen since the 90's honestly...hope it's a good sign the industry is growing again!

A few random videos from the show... My buddy's Astro (The one in the pic a few posts back with the U.S. Amps and JL 18w6...oh yeah, off 3500 watts clamped too) Steve Mick demoing for J.Price Steve Mick again, crazy windshield flex
  9. Thanks, he really dreamed of using these amps again in a vehicle someday, they haven't seen the light of day since around 1998. Lol
  10. Okay guys, here's the first hairtrick video from a show in Defiance yesterday...this is on only 3500 watts clamped or so, he is hoping to add more power soon....it starts around 25-30 seconds in.
  11. Figured I'd put another quick video of it up...
  12. In very good condition, maybe $225-300 I would say, but some people will pay more, just have to catch the right person.

    OLD SCHOOL US AMPS

The true old-school "cheater" amps, U.S. Amps VLX series, Orion HCCA and Concept series, Soundstream high currents, etc., weren't really underrated at 4 ohms so much as they could run REALLY low impedance loads...typically they did close to rated power at 4 ohms. For example, the U.S. Amps VLX-400 was rated at 200x2 at 4 ohms and did really close to that, but could run .5 ohm ALL-DAY and even lower many times (Mine ran 12 - 4 ohm 15" subs in mono/parallel daily) and they would do up to around 3500 watts if you could supply the voltage/current they needed.
  14. New to making videos, but here's a video of the build...
  15. Another video of it today...
  16. Moe Sabourin USACi, IASCA and dBDRA Announce Joint Finals at Indiana State Fairgrounds on October 6-7, 2012 The car stereo competition formats of the dB Drag Racing Association (dBDRA), International Autosound Challenge Association (IASCA) and the United States Autosound Competition Interntational (USACi) are joining as partners to produce a joint finals event. The event will be held in the Blue Ribbon Hall at the Indiana State fairgrounds and allow for competitors to compete in multiple formats all under one roof. Indianapolis is within a day’s drive or less for more than 50% of the U.S. population. "IASCA Worldwide Inc. is very excited to be part of this event and working with dB Drag and USACi" said Moe Sabourin, Director of Operations for IASCA "The event is not about one specific organization; we're all coming together and coordinating this event as a whole, not as three separate orgs. This is a collaborative effort to show industry a unified effort for its benefit, something that Paul Papadeas has been working to realize for more than 15 years. SPL competition will work the same as it did in Daytona in March and we're working on something unique for our sound quality membership across the country." According to Wayne Harris, President of the dB Drag Racing Association, “The dBDRA is a proud partner in this historic endeavor. From our perspective, everyone will benefit. Co-location allows competitors to participate in multiple formats without incurring the additional traveling expenses associated with attending multiple events. Exhibitors benefit for many of these very same reasons. And the sound-off organizations benefit by sharing many of the costs associated with producing a Finals event. Best of all, bringing everyone together will create a “critical mass”, so to speak. Anytime you bring a large contingent of auto sound enthusiasts together, you are bound to have a good time. I can’t wait!” "This event is a must see for anyone interested in fully customized cars and their car stereos. Extreme vehicles with walls of woofers and thousands of watts of power go head-to-head to see who really has the loudest car stereo system. This show is professionally orchestrated with live internet broadcast, video displays, light towers, and vendor booths." Harris continued to say. “For years the 12 volt industry has been clamoring for a joint event to celebrate all that is 12-volt electronics. After many years of separate events by multiple organizations I am proud that USACI is able to become part of the industry’s first ever truly unified finals event. I have the highest hopes that this collaboration will lead to further cooperation and eventually a kind of unification of the organizations for the benefit of the industry as a whole. This is a groundbreaking event and I am excited to see how the industry responds with support both in participation and in promotion of this effort. the 2012 Unified Finals will be an event the defines the industry,” according to Ralph Randall, USACi president. For more information on exhibiting or sponsorships at the event, please contact one of the organization representatives or the show coordinator. 17. I agree I'm not really for the satellite locations either, but I suppose they wanted to ease people into the big change. They probably should have done Kansas City or something like that, would have probably been more fair, but it should be a great show and I agree manufacturer support should be MUCH better now...
  18. Also this: Moe Sabourin Also for all our IdBL and Bass Boxing competitors, we will be hosting 2 or 3 satellite locations across the country so everyone can participate. We're also working on something for SQ too that will be announced in the next couple of weeks... Due to the shortened time frame before INAC, we are reducing the points requirements for this year only from 75 to 50, to give everyone a fair chance at earning enough points to qualify.
  19. There's a little hairtrick video in the video section too, by the way...
  20. Thought you guys might like to see a build we are finishing...you may have seen it on another forum...This isn't exactly going to be a full build log, mostly just pics of it as things get finished. This is my buddy's van, we have been building it at his house the last few months. What we have been trying to accomplish is an "old-school" type build, full install, LOW LOW extension, move a bunch of air, and do decent SPL (definitely not our main goal). I worked at a shop in Akron, Ohio in the 90's doing mostly big installs, and competed some myself. He used to compete in consumer classes in USAC back then too. (Both of us had world records in the 90's)...on to the pics... The van... The subs...
  21. Had to go old-school tweed to match the theme...lol.
  22. You aren't kidding! With the amount of rise, we can run all 9 off an American Bass 1100.1 and be right at about 1 ohm, should be in it pretty soon!
  23. He and I built it the last 3 1/2 months...here's the build log link... http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/topic/55400-astro-ground-pounder-build-jl-18w6-us-amps-vlx-400s/
  24. It'll do around 153-ish right now. With 8100 watts on it with our buddy's amp, it did around 156 before it was evern sealed off completely and braced. Should end up around 156.5-157 sealed up legal when he gets more power at around 43hz, only drops about 1.5db at 27 hz.
