from all the advice I've read, people seem to say the dcon isnt really worth putting in a sealed box. People have said even .25 cubes can really change the sound of a box, will 1.5 really be okay? I might try the 12 if I can do 1.5 cubes plus an areo port. Apparently my trunk is around 15 cubes, but the issue is being able to move the box or fit certain things in.

I bought a dcon 12 before I switched cars. I want to put the sub in a ported box, the site recomends 1.75 cubes but has anyone had success going smaller? Reason being I need to put things in the trunk from time to time as well as have access to the spare tire. If need be I was considering reconing the sub to a 10, but I'd really prefer not too as the sub has never been used. If it matters the sub would be recieving 350 rms. Thanks!

Makes sense. How does 2.0cu.ft. at 32-33hz sound? For a mix of rap and rock? I have very few custom tracks, maybe like 5. Rest is normal/non-edited.
-
so you mean you gain mechanical handling when tuning higher? And sorry for asking, but I just want to double check. 35hz would be sufficient for rap and the occasional edited song such as decaf's stuff? Thanks again.

I never really understood when people say "for music" For rap music doesnt the box need to be tuning lower than 33-35 hz? I thought that stuff plays down to 30hz at times. Wont I be pretty much "rolled off" by then? Sorry for the noob questions. I've just never some across the answer.

I have a 12inch dcon. It says that 2.25cu.ft. is "optimal" and the smallest you should build it is 1.75cu.ft. Lets say they are both tuned the same. What is the difference in sound, etc? What is lost or gained by making the box that much bigger? Also, I listen to mostly rock with a decent amount of rap music thrown in there. I'm looking for a nice middle ground tuning and a box that can be easily moved if needed. I was considering 2.0cu.ft. tuned to 32hz. Would you suggest something different? Thanks. (also, I know less power usually calls for a bigger box, I'll be running 340rms or slightly over to the sub) Thanks!

Alpine CDE9881 or new Kenwood/JVC

The name would be great if you could find it. The typical steering wheel adaptors dont work on this unit since there is no jack on the back of the HU apparently. -
Def do a review. I plan to order mine in a few weeks. They are apparently pretty awesome for the price.

Thats the one im leaning towards now. I'd like to keep the alpine but it blows that I will lose steering wheel control function. -

sorry, I should have stated I am running an amp to my components. I have an alpine two channel powering components. The issue with this headunit is that it seems I can't use my steering wheel controls since an adaptor wont work. I'd really hate to lose them since I use them so much. I was told though that the alpine will sound WAY better than the other two HU's. I just dont understand how. I mean passive as in not an active setup. -

I am, which seems rly nice. I was leaning towards the Kenwood since I hear they are pretty good unit. I was told though, that the alpine will have superior sound quality by far. For a passive setup, will I really be able to notice? -

I bought my Alpine CDE 9881 from a pawn shop for 50 bucks back when I had my old car and I recently got a nissan maxima. One thing I rly hate, this headunit has no aux in front or USB and most important, it doesnt work with a steering wheel adaptor. I have had a few people offer me $65 for it (is that a decent price?) and I think I might sell it and get something a little better. I know crutchfield is usually over priced but their headunits seems fairly priced, especially since they give you all the install stuff and save me around 30 bucks. I'm not going to do much with this headunit, just listen to music on my ipod. Idk how to tune, etc. I'm also running a passive setup. Both of these have pandora capability which I like. From these two headunits, which do you think if the better choice. Or do you suggest something else? My MAX budget is $130. (ps, I need something relatively easy to use since my dad also drives the car occasionally, its technically his) Here they are: JVC: JVC Arsenal KD-AHD65 CD receiver at Crutchfield.com Kenwood: Kenwood Excelon KDC-X396 CD receiver at Crutchfield.com -
Well I already have my main power/ground from battery to amp. I have CCA 0g to the trunk, then a distro block that has 8g wire to the 2 channel and 4g wire to the mono amp. I just need to buy some 4g for the big 3 now. Does anyone know if buying xscorpion or streetwire is smart.
