Icon 10 & Icon 12 - Need Dimensions
Woodlawn Cabinetry replied to Woodlawn Cabinetry's topic in Sound Solutions Audio (SSA®)
With all due respect johnecon2001, you are confused. I have never asked for the dimensions for the subwoofers mentioned before, I have however have asked for and received the full dimensions for the FI Audio Q 12 and FI Audio Q 1o and Sound Splinter RL-s 15, correction, I didn't need to ask for the RL-s 15 dimensions because their posted on Sound Splinters Website. -
RL-s 15 " Big B!tch " Cab Design
Woodlawn Cabinetry replied to Woodlawn Cabinetry's topic in SoundSplinter
Just to Update. The customer order the enclosure after finalizing some last details. Build pic's to be coming in a week or two. -
This by far is will the biggest cabinet I have ever designed and to be built. The customer is using a RL-s 15 for Home Audio. The cabinet is 29" w x 29" h x 38" d and the entire beast is 1" MDF - Triple Baffled w/ the subwoofer recessed and braced like a solid brick sh!t house. The back of the cabinet is within the interior of the cabinet with a 6" space to the exterior back for mounting an plate amp. The space isolates the plate amp for the enclosure interior. The customer requested the bracing to be pure overkill to deaden the enclosure. A custom grill cover will be done that slips within the recess cutout which the front part of the grill cover will protrude beyond the front baffle. The grill cover will be held in place with rare earth magnets flush mounted into the grill cover flange and front baffle. And to complete it the exterior with be done with Mahogany Quarter Sawn Veneer. Cabinet Thru View Side Cut View Bracing Cage

RL-s 15 " Big B!tch " Cab Design

The customer is shipping the terminal cup to me and that is what he wants. I don't know the type/kind of terminal cup that it is. Besides, it's alittle late in the game to be telling/advising the customer as to what would be better and informing him that such a change will change the cost for which he's already dropping a pretty penny as it is - with reservations mind you for what he's paying. However, I have contacted him and will advise as such to the terminal issue and let him make that decision for himself. -

Well, I did forget to mention that I will be putting a terminal cup on the enclosure, the customer wants this so he can change amps if the plate amp doesn't serve his purposes. There will be plenty of build pic's taken, the customer requested them. -

Anytime I use round ports or " flanged/aero ports " I always brace them in some manner so their not just hanging in dead space. As for what to use to brace the port, I just use MDF with the the OD of the port cut and then attach the mdf an interior wall of the enclosure and epoxy the port to the brace. As for securing subwoofers to the enclosure, I used various types of hardware and found that " hurricane nuts " work the best provided that the hole that is pre-drilled to secure them in place will not cause the MDF to " blow out " if to close to the mounting cutout of the subwoofer. T-nuts are bad either and what I have discovered is rather than trying to get all the " barb's to bite into the mdf ( which causes " blowout " ) is let one barb land on the sub cutout allowing for the other barb's to get maximum bite into the mdf. One word of advise with this type of hardware: Make d@mn sure that when you drill the holes to put the t-nut or hurricanes in that they are slightly greater in diameter and this will make for a better fit and alignment of the thread shaft so the bolts will not cross thread the t-nut and/or bolt. As for " gluing " them in, use a woodworking product that will cause the MDF to " swell " around the t-nut/hurricane nut that will hold in place better than a epoxy or crazy glue type glue. Fi Audio Q 10 - Request - Dimensions
Woodlawn Cabinetry replied to Woodlawn Cabinetry's topic in Fi Technical
Hey, not a problem at all. You folks over at Fi Audio have taken care of my requests in the past and it's nice to know that someone cares about customer service as much as I do. As always, I greatly appreciate the support provided. Thank You, Phil Woodlawn Cabinetry -
Making another request for dimensions for Q 10. Trying to determine if a Q10 will fit within an existing enclosure I designed and built using different subs.

Congrats on a pleasing install. I am strongly considering a single Q12 myself for my silverado. Is yours an extra cab, under seat intall? If so, can you let me know if your enclosure takes the entire under seat area? YUP,the enclosure is under the seat and does take up the entire width of the cab, youll need to raise the seat 2 inches as well Hey Mitch, I'm going to snatch that pic and put in with the other pic's I took of the enclosure before I shipped it out to ya. Also, would it be possible for ya to take pic of the enclosure from the other side? Phil Woodlawn Cabinetry -

Mitch, As always, it's nice to hear a customer that is satisfied with the end results of everything coming together for them. I'm glad that I was able to provide the service of designing & building the enclosure and I could not have done it without your input on the what I needed to get it done. More Importantly though, I would not have been able to do without the folks at Fi Audio providing the technical support for the all the dimensions of the Q 12 I needed to make the subwoofer fit within the enclosure design under such tight constraints. BTW, How did you like the solution to supporting the enclosure on the subwoofer side? -
Got a customer that is considering going with either a q10 or ssd 10. Customer mainly listens to rock, metal and other types of music along those lines. If i stick with the 1.5 cu.ft. net spec and tune alittle higher around 35-37 hz, how will that sound. Also, customer requirements is the sub has to be dual 2 ohm 1000 watts continous per what he stated. The vehicle is a1998 single cab Dodge Truck and the enclosure is replacing the center console with the both the sub and port firing back at the cab rear wall. Space from baffle to cab rear wall 6-8 inches. Phil Woodlawn Cabinetry

Ported Enclosure - q10 or ssd10
Woodlawn Cabinetry replied to Woodlawn Cabinetry's topic in General Fi
Well, the customer doesn't have the space for a q12 for where the enclosure is going since were working with 16 w x 12.5 h x 23.5 d and the tuning, yeah, lower would suit better for the music, I was thinking higher because rock doesn't have hardly any low frequencys to it. But, hey, that's why I asked the questions, better to be set straight then be ignorant not learn. BTW, my gut told me " go with Q " and the customer decided he wants to use the Q10. Thanks, as always, very helpful folks here. Oh, forgot, customer didn't say what's up front. -
I am making this request on behalf of a customer. He is presently serving in Iraq and under normal circumstances I would ask the customer to provide the measurements of the trunk. The vehicle is a 2002 monte carlo and I am requesting/asking for is the Width, Height and Depth in order to design enclosure to what is recommended or the customers requirements. If anyone would be kind enough to provide the info, I and the customer would greatly appreciate it. Phil Woodlawn Cabinetry

Requesting Info on Behalf of a Customer.
Woodlawn Cabinetry replied to Woodlawn Cabinetry's topic in General Audio
Been there do that, I have the request posted on at least 5 different Monte Carlo forums since Monday, plenty of views to the post, but no replies as of this date. I find it quite annoying and frustrating that no one on any of the those forums didn't even as so much not even make/give a reply even if they couldn't be helpful. This whole " click attitude " about being or not being part of a group really pizzes me off. -
Just wanted to post here to clarify what afarfsin stated as I did take time off, but I am now back. As for the you folks that own Chevy Avalanches and/or Caddy EXT's. I offer many various enclosure's specifically designed with various subwoofer models for the vehicles mentioned. These enclosures are design as such that they fit between the rear seat and the midgate requiring no modifications to the vehicle what so ever and they do not impact the function of the midgate other than if you wish to use the midgate, the enclosure will have to be removed to do so which is why many avalanche owners have chosen to use these enclosures. Also, as to the enclosures themselves and those that have purchase them, there are many customer comments to which they can be found here: Avalanche Owners Comments If you have and further questions, please e-mail your questions to [email protected] or register with SPLBassX Forum and post your questions/inquiry's in Woodlawn Cabinetry's Forums section / Chevy Avalanche Enclosure Section, AV Members Questions & Comments Welcome as I created this section for AV/EXT owners.
