I had an 05 XXX 12 in 1.15 cu ft sealed box and a 2.0 cu ft ported box tuned to 32 hz, both with 2000 watts. You might need some more power for a box that small with the XXX. It got low, loud, and sounded razor sharp. I got significantly more output in the ported setup. I've also had my Q in both a sealed and ported box as well. I think the Q likes a sealed box better whereas the XXX prefers a ported box tuned low. I think a Q would work better considering the power you have on tap and being restricted to a sealed box.

I have a 2"x12" slot port with 2 U bends. I know its not optimal but its the only way I could get the box to fit into my space constraints. I have a little bit of port noise. Since the box is in a trunk, I don't even notice it from the front seat.

You'll be fine with 700 watts on a Q. Sundown Audio's SAZ-1500d retails for $600. You might be able to get it for a little less. The money spent will be well worth it. If you decide to add more power in the future, just strap another 1500d to it.

Yes, we all bow down to Scott and his crew for making great stuff!
-
2 12s will give you a lot more bass. If you can, I'd go for it. Why not just keep the 1400 watt amp and get 2 Q12s?
-
I had IDQ10 v.2s awhile back in a sealed box. If you like the IDQs...you'll love the Qs.

Fi makes excellent stuff. Their subs are hard to beat not to mention the pricing. The Q and BTL are phenomonal deals. Fi is for hobbyists and enthusiasts. I don't think Fi is marketed towards the average "Best Buy" customer.

Is that box sealed? if so, 3.2 cu ft sealed is a LOT for 2 10s. You shouldn't have any issues fitting 2 10s are 2 12s sealed. Just fill the inside up with blocks styrofoam to bring the internal volume within specs. You might be able to turn the box into a ported enclosure for 2 10s. If you have 1400 watts, 2 SSDs would be a better fit. I'm sure Qs would do well also.

Maybe he's talking about heatsink links.

Phone call would probably work better.

That is a great number! Especially for an SQ install.

Woodlawn and Fi...that sounds like a great match! I can't imagine how a sub could be better than a Q...especially for $259.
-
I'm grossly overpowering my Q12 with a US Amps USA-2000x (2000x1) - pre-sell out model. No BP option either. Paid $600 used on ebay.
-
Can you squeeze 2 sealed SSD10s in there? If not, I'd go with the Q10 ported and tuned low.
-
I'm sure Fi just "made" it...you guys are kicking ass! I hope to see Fi around for many more years to come.
-
Looks like the surround was pierced during installation and then got worse from usage.
-
What size are your subs?
-
I am still convinced that Fi is THE best deal in car audio. How are so many people winning with a sub that costs $500 max (fully loaded BTL)? Great work everyone!

Would rubber grommets and a layer of sound deadening material between the box and amp minimize any issues with vibration?
-
Impressive! Jacob, No fans please!
-
that's great to hear! So are you going to settle down with some Sundown amps for awhile now? I've seen you go through a couple of different amps on SPLBassx.
-
Sundown audio makes some pretty good amps. If you are willing to go used, older US Amps are my favorites.
-
That's sucks...sounds JL'ish.

The Q will be okay with 1500 watts as long as you are responsible. You'll have some extra headroom as well. I've got 2000 watts to mine (no BP power option) and it takes it. I really don't crank it too much and have the gains all the way down. But what's your budget? If you can upgraded the electrical system, I'd go for a SAZ-1500D. If your budget is tighter, go for the SAE-1000D. I'd really try to go for the SAZ-1500D. You might kick yourself later if you start upgrading. Saves money in the long run.

IIRC, the old VLX-400s were rated at 2400 watts. Either way, these things were badass...if you could fit one in your car.
