    SUNDOWN SAZ 3000D

You know you're 3000d is working right when your neighbors 4 houses up coming running out the house at 10pm to tell you your sh1t rocks! Or your wife comes to the garge to tell you that the bathroom mirror almost fell off the wall. I figured that I'm getting 3000 watts.

    Chaos 12 on a Sundown SAE-1000D

No pics of the sub...forgot. And the guy is on the way to Minnesota or some crappy state up there . My bad. I'd say the chaos is a pretty damned good sub. The power ratings do seem a little convervative...it can handle a little more. To be honest, the extra $100 to step up to the Havoc is WELL worth it if you have 1000+ watts.

    Chaos 12 on a Sundown SAE-1000D

I have a pic...I'll post if later. Just too lazy right now. It is a Chaos...not a Havoc. Its a small step down from a Havoc. The magnets are shaped just like an Fi. A very nice sub for ~$300.

Weak havoc 18" or something else?

No sh1t...I had an old RE XXX that had the + and - terminals labeled backwards. Drove me crazy until I popped each coil with a 9v battery.

any plans for a sundown 5k?

I really want that 250.2 to come out. Then I can see what my OZ Audio mids are really capable of.

    Arsenal power handling questions

Maybe try a 10" chaos? Although 1200 will still be a little much for that as well. 2 Arsenal 10's would probably work better.

    Spl Weekend

Lord Baccus...congrats! Was that the Texas Bass Production event? Hopefully I'll get up there soon.

    Sundown Audio

I've long been a US Amps guy (for 11 years). I ditched my US Amps for some Sundown Audio and have never looked back. Sundown performs as well an any other top company like Zapco for example. Only difference is you'll pay a lot less for a high quality sundown amp.

    Want Havocs

Havocs come in D1 and D2. I'm looking at 2 D1 12's sitting right here.

    SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME EXPLAIN

Yes, HCCA225s were the one of the best amps of its day. Orion has definitely changed. I really don't care who's numbers are better, its all in the sound. We listen to music, not numbers. Sundown does make top notch stuff. Although I was very happy with my US Amps, I like my Sundown's even better. And all of my customers are extremely happy. I don't miss the 4 separate power and ground connections on the USA-2000x either.

Adire Brahma 12 vs RE Audio XXX 12 vs FI Audio Q 12

Based on price...you can get 5 Qs for the retail price of 1 XXX. Since you have the XXX already, you're probably better off sticking with it unless you are trying to downside or lose some weight. The Q is the best compromise between SPL, SQ, size, weight, and cost. The XXX and Brahma will do certain things better though.

    Mayhem series

I love these names. I think AA has everything below 1250 watts covered. Havoc - 1250 Chaos - 800 Arsenal - 500 Assassin - 300 I'm thinking all out SPL sub in the neighborhood of 2000 watts.

    Havoc vrs Fi Q comparison

Yeah, but its the whole "pretty" thing for the plexi window. More observations...I think the Havoc is a little cleaner than the Q during complex passages. I use "Fortune Faded" by RHCP to test this. Towards the end at 2:25 thru 2:49, Flea is going to town on the bass guitar. Most subs will run the notes together. Even the Q in the ported box ran the notes together a little. Although the Q was much sharper in the sealed box and didnot run the notes together. The Havoc played them all rather distinctly. The only other sub that I know can do this is an XBL2 RE XXX. Still haven't touched the EQ. I'm still getting used to the Sundown amps. For reason, the gains don't seem to be equally progressive. I have them all the way down and won't get much output. Then after 1/3 turn, the volume suddenly increases by A LOT.

    Havoc vrs Fi Q comparison

Okay, one complaint. 8 ga wire went into the Q's terminals easily. Not the case for the Havocs.

    Havoc vrs Fi Q comparison

Did some more listening today. I think this sub will be much easier to integrate into the front stage not that the Q was hard to blend in. The havoc has comparable SQ to the Q. Its kind of hard to call which on is better yet. The more I listen, the more it feels like the Havoc has a stronger low end presence. It shakes and rattles everything a little more at similar overall volume levels. It seems like I am getting some more ratting car parts than before as well. More to follow. So far, I do like this better than the Q. I don't think I'd upgrade from a Q but I would probably choose the Havoc over the Q when all things are considered.

Out with US Amps, in with Sundown

Yeah, they make good stuff. Just gotta be careful with the wax...use too much and its like taking off dried peanut butter.
  17. Just swapped out my US Amps for some Sundown Audio amps. Sad to see the ol' faithful US Amps go, this was VERY hard to do. I must be a responsible sundown dealer and use the stuff that I sell. I did consider slapping a sundown sticker on the US Amp heatsinks. Old install I still have an Fi Q12 and the Sundown SAZ-1500D is my first ever class D amp. I metered at 140.5 db. Pretty damned good if you ask me for the bass eating BMW trunk. A 2.3db gain since I was metered using the sub brand new with a super stiff suspension. Measured by a termlab in the pass side kick panel. Peak freq was 47hz. The reading might be a little higher since I was inside. Electrical: Stock 120 amp alt Kinetik HC2400 battery Used 2007 db drag racintg 45 hz test tone Gains were all the way down which didn't matter since I was overpowering the sub. This Fi Q sub is a beast. I've been driving this sub with a 2000 watt amp and now a 1500 watt amp. The only thing that happens is I start smelling glue when the coil heats up. Takes it like a champ with a responsible user. I didn't get a voltage reading since the sub was getting pretty hot. Sometime later maybe.

    Havoc vrs Fi Q comparison

I guess you can move it...you guys are the bosses LP was set at 80 hz and my EQ was flat. I believe the subsonic filter was at 32 hz. As far as SPL, I metered at 138.1 when the Q had 4 hours of play time. I did a 139.5 with the Havoc. Both on TLs in the kick panel. Same box, same car, same stock alt. The only difference is the amp and battery. The Q was on the USA-2000x and a much smaller stinger battery. The Havoc was on the SAZ-1500D with a Kinetik HC2400. I don't think that made much of a difference because the Q couldn't take the full 2000 watts from the US Amps anyway.

Out with US Amps, in with Sundown

As in the models you goof. Ok..you got me. Out: USA-2000x USA-400x USA-200x Fi Q12 (all of which are for sale) In: SAZ-1500D SAX-100.4 AA Havoc 12 I would have shoehorned a 3000D in with another Havoc12 but I got so sick of installing 2 ft long US Amps with 4 power/gnd connection. I don't think I needed it anyways

US Amps gone and Sundown is in. I figured that it would be obvious since I'm posting in the sundown forum.

    New Heatsink

I just got the 3000Ds yesterday...didn't even notice the changes. The damned things are heavier than my US Amps USA2000X. Thank god it doesn't have 4 power and gnd terminals. They look mean and the customer almost creamed his pants...can't wait to get it in.

Either way works but I'd go sealed if you are trying to keep your back seat.
