I give Sundown a TON of credit for even trying this. This would tell me that these amps are overbuilt and made to last. Most amps would go up in smoke or just go into protection. Let's be realistic...what percentage of people actually upgrade their alternator? Almost none.

Killer...I like this. To date, I have never owned a class D mono amp. Always stuck with 2 channel amps.

Sound isn't made by numbers.

Thanks for the info!

Do you guys offer a custom finish that won't sacrifice thermal dissipation capabilities? In particular, I'm looking for blue.

Especially a comparison between the Q and SSD. That seems to be one of the burning questions on the board. Well I could do this, but I don't think it'd be a fair comparison. A 12" Q, in a ported enclosure, with 300 more RMS than recommended. A 12" SSD, in a 1 cube sealed enclosure (after displacement etc..), with about 800-900 RMS. If he wasn't so lazy, and actually wanted to put effort into his system to port it and what not, I'd be able to do a nice comparison. From what I've heard from both the situations, the Q blows it away in every aspect. The SSD just didn't seem to hit the lows with as much, or even close to as much authority. However, the SSD does get fairly loud at about 45-60 hz for a sealed enclosure. It's supposedly louder than the Q in recommended enclosures of the same style, but I can't comment on this from personal experience. If I had to do it again, and was on a budget, I'd probably go with the Q without a doubt. I just love those lows on it. While it may not be on an equal playing field, I think the review will be informative as long as you state the differences in power. It would be more ideal if both were in sealed or porter boxes. A Q vrs SSD seems to be a common question. I am also curious. I got the Q because it wasn't that much more than the SSD and seemed to have a lot more capability.

Can we get some sort of confirmation email or post here on the forum? I'm dying to sport my new Fi Tshirt!

MSRP is $1199 on the SAZ-3000D and, as always, dealers will be selling for under MSRP if contacted for a quote and I will offer a short pre-sale on them (pre-sale pricing won't be announced until the time comes). Thanks for the info. This will be a steal at $1200. I feel the same way, I really like the look I do want to add more dissipation area somehow, though... perhaps I'll just get larger side fins much like the Tru amps that Lukas posted up. I vote for the larger side fins.

I can have it done myself. What is the best way to finish the heatsink without interfering with its cooling properties?

I say leave the look as is. Simple and classic. BTW, any ballpark MSRP? Under $1000?

I had my Q12 in both a sealed and ported box. From my experience with a XXX 12, I assumed that they Q would like a ported box better. Maybe its my box building skills, but I didn't quite get the gain that I expected from the ported box. It sounded great in both setups and you'll be happy either way. For my personal tastes, I'm going back to a sealed box.

Yes...just about everything was working against me. So I wouldn't use this as a measure of how loud the Q really is. My BMW REALLY sucks for SPL. And its the family car right now so I'm really limited as far as trunk space. Gotta fit the groceries! I'm about to get a 200 amp rebuild which should help a little. -

It will be like christmas in March... You live near parts express? That rules...I'd save a lot of money on shipping.

Sounds decent. A place that shall remain nameless tried to charge me $200 to start for setting my system up with an RTA.

136db - 1 3 day old FI Q12 and a US Amps USA-2000 in a BMW 330Ci at San Antonio Heatwave (USACI). -
Can't speak for the BL but the Q can take a lot of power. As for the minimum? I wouldn't go less than 750 on a Q but that is speculative. From a review of the Q, it seems to work really well with 800 watts and more. I thought the BL and Q had similar power handling characteristics. It seems like the BL is filling the void between the 800 watt SSD and the 3kw+ BTL as far as power handling.

The Epic-160/Epicenter makes a difference as far as loudness. But it sounds weird. The little SPL meter is pretty cool. It was actually pretty accurate from my brief experience. Nice set up.

Great review. Sorry about your windshield. Scott should pay up for making such an absurd sub.
