pfffft finishes are overrated The box is 3.2cf per chamber, and I did 146.38db @~43hz. Now the box is ported, tuned to about 40hz per side, and hopefully I'll be a little closer to 150

Running either one MAW-15 or one MJ-18

Who knows if he can fit that big of a box though... -

I agree with Denim. MAw15 ported and wired for 2ohms will do a great job. It'll be the easiest to fit in a car too. -
There was a guy at the comp with a single DD 9510, bout 1.25cf with a huge 6" aeroport on the back side, probably 3kw RMS, posted a 150.8 or so in a CRX. BIG battery and 6 runs of 1/0g each for power and ground. But yeah, that just defies the logic we're used to.

Depends on the situation. Just run a pair of PVC pipes and see how much (if any) noise you get.
-
More surface area so it can do it louder. Plus it'd be able to handle the 80hz stuff easier as well (well we'd hope heh).
-
For that you'd be best off spending some time with Yuli I dunno how he makes a 10" sub, in MAYBE 1.5cf, with a massive 6" aeroport on the backside of the box so loud. Show that to any HT DIY'er and they'd figure the port's too big for the box and it wouldn't resonate, but act as an open box. Obvoiusly not though. I don't know enough about the theory behind it to logic it out, but maybe somebody out there does...?
-
You might need it; run it unstuffed, then experiment with it. Make your port more square like instead of the "slit" that it is now, and you can get away with less port area. Run something in the 30 inch range and you'll be fine; a 6" round port only has ~28inches of area.

How about 4ohm DVC for those of us who could use it to maximize the output of our 2ch amps? Also, for door usage practicality, keep the depth as close to 2.5" as possible (but you'll probably need to go with 3" or more for reasonable excursion), and please keep the Qts high.... With a good enough Vas, Qts in the 0.6 range, Fs in the 45-55hz range, and even 5mm Xmax, it could be a nice IB midbass.
-
Lookin good, how do they sound?
-
Keep the stuffing near the driver, I would keep it away from the port as much as possible. It needs to resonate as much as possible, you dont want stuffing absorbing the port's work. Also bump the tuning up; 32hz would be a better choice if you like rap/hiphop. Now go out and do it

I dunno how far away my setup can be heard (2x MJ18's in 3.25cf sealed a piece, off 2kw RMS), but I've had the drivers window halfway down, and people 40 feet away turn around with a "OMGWTF" look on their face.... Is there any way you could run a pair of MAW15's? They'll be easier to fit rear-firing, work better in 4cf sealed total, and have more cone area than the MJ18.
-
I would run that volume sealed, not ported! I dont have a program installed, but u'd probably gain next to nothing by porting it. Keep it sealed. Incar, my MJ18's are clean, very articulated, and have awesome dynamics. Finesse is a good word to describe them with. They dont benefit much from high power levels though, so there's really not much point in giving each one more than say, 500 watts RMS.
-
Jeez that's a lot of power.
-
Not bad... CRX style box?
-
Everytime I get a new driver, I move the cone up and down as far as feel it's safe to, then I go in with my fingers and exercise the spider until it doesnt make that "crackly" "new spider" kinda sound. Break-in done. Then I crank the %&*# out of it, IE: normal listening levels Unless there's something specific to the various glue's curing properly, there's really no "break in" required, unlike a car.
-
Yeah man, I think a 140 is doable. In my buddies celica at the show, with his 2x 12" type R's off ~800 watts RMS that did 139.7db, we tried a different friends MAW 15 in 2.4cf, and it was very close to what the type r's were doing. In your escort with that box, I think 140 should be doable.
-
So that's why you carry the Hi-Vi's Mark Do tell more Mark, how's the sound? what's the crossover like?
-
I've actually got 2 pairs of MLI-65's on order myself, one pair for myself, and another pair for the rear deck of my friends 98 accord sedan. I'm mainly after bass performance in both applications, but if they're good enough, another pair might find a way to replace the Vifa P17's currently in my front doors
-
The sealed's will have more midbass punch, and definetely less dynamic compression, but the ported will likely have a bit more low end (say, 30-45hz).
-
Looks good, it should go off pretty nicely
-
I could be wrong, but I think it'll go *quite* deep.
-
They will go off nicely in a pickup
-
Hehe yup, the MAW's are quite clean subs, and will surprise a lot of people into not believeing they're actually 15's. It's fun cranking em
