    FI sign in newbies too

It'll be worth the wait. I know a lot of people that want something good, but they'd rather have it NOW, and throw their money to one of the chain stores package deals they can get cheap, settling for a lesser product. It's worth the wait to get quality. Oh, and as far as the topic of the thread... I've had many systems over the past 6-7 years. I've owned Alpine, Kicker, Kenwood, Pioneer, Concept, MTX, Memphis, and many other brands in between. I've been interested in car audio since high school, and been upgrading ever since. I purchased my first Fi BTL back in november or december of 06, can't remember, and I've been a happy customer ever since. I now have 2 BTLs on 2 Memphis 4ks and the only way I could be happier is if I had more.

Thread for amps to run on FI Subs

I tried to create a page like this just for the BTL, but I don't think it went over too well I'll throw out some #s, all are at 14.4v -I like the hifonics bxi2006d for 2000 watts. Pushed a BTL OK, and pounded on a BL. 2000wrms @ 1ohm over-rated a bit, but very cost effective. -The Sound Stream 10000d I got didn't work, but it weighed about 50lbs and was a beastly looking amp. 5000wrms @ 1ohm. Supposed to be safe in the 16v range. -Very happy with my Memphis 4ks, 4000wrms (CEA-2006) @ 1ohm. Very thin while being 32 inches long, very impressive looks (SEXY!) -Quantum 4000, I think it puts out more like 2k... Many many others, but that's all I have experience with. maybe someone with some experience with the following amps could chime in, all are fairly popular: RF 4000s (supposed to put out around 4500) DD Z1/Z2 SS 6500d (a bit over 4k) American Bass 400.1

Two mono amps to my BTL

Yes, much cheaper than big amps, but it depends on the amps if you can strap them. What kind do you have? Some brands require you to get a bridging module of some sort. For instance, for memphis amps you get the module, then you hook the - of the speaker to the + output of one amp, and the + of the speaker to the + output of the other amp, then bridge the negatives of the amp with a wire. Anyway, what type of amps, and what VC sub?

    Got my BTL (no pics)

Theoretical 3db gain for every time you double power so 600 1200 2400 so theoretical ~5dbs. I think it'll make a world of difference.

    Fun night..

My bro and I often are confused to not be brothers because we have different biological moms, so I look white as hell and he.. is obviously mixed. Well, he's got a big red chevy 2500, with bigass tires, tool box and whip for his CB radio-of course topped off with mud from the last ditch. I've got a dark blue yukon w/ dark tint and enough weight in subs/enclosure that I've had people ask if it's been lowered. People often confuse who drives what.

Check out the topic "BTL power recommendations". I thought it would help answer your exact question, and others like it... Measure your trunk and put up the dimensions, maybe someone will help you.

FI 418s 4th order single reflex bandpass design!!!

If you want to get 1 rf4k, and maybe one day 2, I'd go with the BLs. They'll easily handle 1kw, but they still sound good with around 2k. I don't fee like you'd want the BTLs if you only plan on giving them 1kw a piece-they like to be fed. The BL would be better suited for 2kw than the SSD or the Q (for future upgrades like you mentioned. I like your plan of BLs on a RF 4k. Good luck with the recreation.

    help me decide

I just mean that it's built to match the specs of the individual sub/vehicle well.

Two mono amps to my BTL

It's still the same signal comming from the h/u, both amps still see that same signal-it just sort of goes to 1 amp first. It has never mattered in my experience.

What to do next with FI?

Knowing how you can't get anything reselling your used audio equipment, I'd just get a 2nd Q if you're happy with the first and just want it louder. After selling your first q you'd still be paying about the same for 2 ssds as you would for just another Q.

    Free stuff :)

Just wanted to give a big thanks for those stickers. My bro got the small one with his BL, but he's going to be putting the big one on his truck- I'll post a pic of it once it's up. I think a small one would look sooo nice on my rear window, especially againt the dark tint (5% + 20%) but I'm going to wait until I upgrade the alarm system- S&W can only protect it when I'm awake...

finally got my new system in

I really think simple designs like that are really effective- looks really good and gets the job done. Just looks clean and not too fancy. Nice.

    help me decide

IMO the size of the sub isn't as big a factor as the setup and enclosure. I helped my bro setup his 12" BL in a box that isn't at all the right specs for it, and while it sounds deep, it just isn't getting the quick notes as well as my 18" BTLs. I believe his sub will sound awesome once we get the right box on it, but that's a major factor. (is it sad that size of the trunk to fit a bigger box is actually a big factor in my decision?). -No. I had a mustang gt, and while I decided to go to an suv to haul stuff and for work/family reasons, sub/box size did pop in my mind more than once I think if you build your enclosure well you'll be happy with either.

    Fun night..

I didn't have the original box for my cdt 6.5 components (which I think are great little speakers) so I packed them up in a shoe box. I needed a spacer because the magnets are so big they wouldn't let the window on my yukon lower, so I went to circuit city to let them put them in and save myself the effort of cutting out something The dumbass there looked at them and said I should've gone with the infinity reference series coaxials, where the hell did I find this off-brand crap and that it looked like I found those POS somewhere by the road. One guy actually knew that they're good stuff, but that shows that 'installers' can have an attitude and be ignorant about it. The same guy told me my hifonics 2006d wasn't as good as the sony xplode amps they had in stock, but he shut the F up whenever he heard that first btl on the one amp, and when he heard how clean those cdts sound.

Two mono amps to my BTL

X 10 on the DMM Just run a 2nd set of rcas from the out of one amp to the IN of the other. I don't think it'll make a difference, but if you want to do a splitter that'll work too. Just keep the rcas short.

    Fun night..

I had a similar experience today (Just added the 2nd memphis 4k so 2 BTL 18s on 8000 watts). I was driving by the local college to drop off my bro, and I had some music playing. No bass, but as I was passing the bus stop the bass finally kicked in-damn those were some heads turning fast, one guy almost spilled the drink in his hand. As I passed the athletic field the runners stopped running to turn around, and on the far end where there was some kind of practice going on I just see 20-some people turn around and stare at me going around -they were on the other end of the running track (about the size of a football field). It made me happy in the pants... couldn't get metered yet, but it's soooo low and loud. Gonna get a vid of a hair trick as soon as I can. Then my bro called to tell me he heard me on the other side of the campus.

    2K RMS= BTL's or BL's ???

OK, hooked up my bros 12 in a 1.1ft^3 box tuned @ 32hz, sitting on the bench of his single cab truck. To say the least not the right size enclosure (while it's a great box, it isn't carpeted well and just not made for that sub). We'll be building a new one soon. The BL seemed right at home on that amp, while it is over-rated. I feel it had a bit of overhead to keep it clean. For a single 12 in about 1/2 the enclosure it needs it hit those lows with some authority! Much louder than the sealed kicker 12 in 1cube. He'll be joining the forum, he can post some more comments. I have a few pics of it (Craploads of movement), I'll post those late tonight. Amazing sub. I got the 2nd 4k on the other BTL today OMFG, my ears felt cottony 1/2 an hour later after just sticking my head in to grab the remote. Only 1 word to describe it: LOUD. The 2k really was amazing, but just that extra 4k made it retardedly loud. I just love my BTLs so much, if $ isn't a concern, I'd get them. If you know you'll be sticking w/ 2000 each, get the BLs-just adjust your gains properly.

    Q 15 enclosure help

by dimensions I meant the numbers I didn't see the first time I looked at the diagram of your box, my mistake If you want the port bigger than go bigger, but everyone who stays in the recommended parameters I've talked to has been happy. I don't think you'll see much if any gain by making a larger port than 16sq per cubic foot, just tune low. Why not google 'box tuning calculator' or go to the RE website- I think they're supposed to have a decent one to calculate the length of the port. Just out of curiosity, what type of car is it? I'm always interested in something I've never heard of, where are you located?

    2K RMS= BTL's or BL's ???

Actually heres a very short vid I made months ago that just shows the excursion on this thing. Very short clip about 16seconds, but it shows that 2kw really gets it moving a good bit. This is hypnotize by jeezy, the intro as soon as the bass drops: [url="http://s116.photobucket.com/albums/o7/alpinemayn/?action=view

    2K RMS= BTL's or BL's ???

Yeah, that was my setup. Those hifonics amps were nice, and w/ 2krms I'd get the BTLs over again. Plus you have room to upgrade. Since then I've gone to 2 memphis 4ks, and that's what I really wanted to do in the long run. (not those amps in particular, but 4k each). While the 2krms didn't push the btls to their full excursion or potential, they still got really loud. They took it all day w/out a single problem either. My bro just got a 12" BL, he's using one of my bxi2006ds to power it, so by tomarrow I could tell you first hand how well it takes it. Those amps are bang for the buck, they really push something for the price you pay, but yes, there is better out there. That was 151.8 and I believe 151.3 on a 2 different brand new A/C meters on 2 different days, but that still is probably off from a t/l, there's no way to know for sure until I can drive to a few hours to a shop w/ a t/l. (or hopefully a comp). Whether or not you ever plan to get more power, I think I'd still get the BTLs for 4krms on a daily basis-just less stress than maxing out the BLs, and who knows, a year from now you may have some $ laying around and want your system louder, then you have room to upgrade. That's just my thoughts. Like I said, if you want I'll let you know how well the bl takes the 2krms tomarrow. Good luck.

    Just purchased a 12" BL

OK, so my bros BL came in tonight. Thought I'd just stick to this thread and post some pics of it. Thought you guys might like the hand made quilts in the background too Overall very beefy, around 30lbs, looks nice. WOW is the suspension stiff, can't wait to break that in and see how it sounds-especially in his single cab w/ around 1800 watts. We will be building the box soon, but until then we're just going to slap it in the box for my old type-x, 1.1ft^3 net w/ 32hz tune. Not ideal for the sub at all space wise, but atleast he'll have some thump till we get it built right. More pics to come. Thanks.

    Just purchased a 12" BL

OK, so my brother just had me get a 12" BL for him, and while it is being made/shipped I'm trying to deside how to build his enclosure. He has a single cab truck with bench seat, which only has about 6-7" of space behind the seat at the largest part. It is a chevy 2500, if that helps. While he could put his seat up a little and fit it, he want it to be in the center of his truck, pretty much in the middle of where you'll see it. I was considering making something with the sub up at an angle, and the port forward at the floor. Would it be better for me to have the port and sub up-like where the wood bends at the top front of the box instead of the bottom? This is a quick sketch I made in paint, (not the best but oh well) hope this gives an idea of what I'm thinking. Any input will be helpful. It will be somewhere near 2ft^3 tuned to 32hz with port area around 30sqin. Thanks.
