? ? It's the stock mirror that came with the car, it just has a thermometer in it hence the wire. It's as stock as it gets, so I don't understand what you mean? You're right though, I'm questioning the integrity of the glass now. I reglued the small piece w/ glass and all back in place, just put 3x as much glue. I'm thinking if it does it again it'll go all the way through, but we'll find out. If anything else happens I'll just get a new windshield, I think I get 1 free one a year, and I've had this one a little over a year now. I'm trying to figure out a way to make that bracket though, I think that would be a great solution.

Is that for you guys to recone the sub, or the price of the kit? How much would the shipped price be for a BTL 18 recone kit, and what does that consist of? I've never reconed a sub before, so any details are a plus. Thanks.

Do you know how it sounds yet? what's it being powered with?

Great job! Nice score for a single 12.

Here are some pics of my bros 12" BL. I told someone I'd post pics, forgot the topic and decided I'd post them here for the world to see. Here's the pics from it arriving, looking pimp on my hand made quilts Beefy, heavy, and all around looks great. Here's a pic of it compared to his old 12" Kicker L7. The pic doesn't show the difference that great, but it's tremendous. The L7 weighs a fraction as much, and just doesn't have the threatening feeling the BL does. We put the sub in at the college nearby, oh well The box is an old box that I made for my 12" alpine type-x. It's only 1.1 cube net tuned to 32hz. very small on the BL, but we haven't made his yet. We're trying to bend the mdf to curve under his dash nicely, so in the mean time, at least he has some thump. Really really needs recarpeted, but it's so temporary it's not worth it. Here's a pic of it in his truck. This shows how out of place this box is, it takes up half the passenger side as well as the center. This is the only place he can make it fit- he just doesn't have room behind the seat. And finally some excursion. This isn't full excursion, this was just a pic I got off some music. It sounds REALLY deep, but over all not beautiful. I'm almost 100% sure it's because of the box being way to small. It's a well made box other than the carpet, but it's just not right for this sub. It does get very loud considering the box-very authoritative and pust pressure on those low notes, especially for a single 12. He's running this off of 1 hifonics 2006d at 1 ohm. I'll update this w/ the build log as soon as we get started on the box. I just figured I'd go ahead and upload this for him so he can be getting some ideas/comments. Thanks.

Looks really nice, car and install. I'm going to jump on the side that doesn't like grills though. Good job checking on the clearance before messing up your stuff, but it's looking good.

If you don't own a DMM, you really have no business doing anything electrical yourself... Maybe anything is a bit extreme, but def. need it for anything worth doing. You really shouldn't be playing that sub w/ one amp per coild if you haven't set the gains w/ a dmm. Those hifonics put out 1100 @ 2 ohms, 1600 @ 1, so your gaining very little- as audio-neon said. Yes, you would be better off getting 1 3000 watt amp, to answer your question bluntly. Here's a thought though, which would be cheaper/better, 1 3000 watt amp, or another btl with dual 1ohm coils and a DMM?

so far the official veriFied count is: Fi Car Audio - 3 Rearview mirror - 0 better make that fi - 4 rearview mirror - 0 This morning first thing I glued the metal piece back to the windshield. I figured the package said let it sit 30 minutes, I let it set all day. 10 hours later I put the mirror back on, a few minutes later, I'm now missing a piece of glass: Atleast the glue held, but I think there should be some sort of metal bracket holding the mirror up, instead of just having a piece of metal the size of a quarter. I can see why so many people are having trouble. I think I'm going to make up some sort of bracket that could be used to replace/assist the stock mount. Maybe when I do this I should sell the product to you guys at fi to include w/ the subs? Tell you what though, I was talking to a guy at the one shop about installing a backup camera and screen, then just building a wall. Maybe I'll just get a screen regardless, and forget the mirror all together. It does increase visability not having it...

Why don't you measure it and put the dimensions on here. I'm pretty sure you could fit an 18 facing up, but you'll be tight for air space. (at least a guy whos camaro I looked at had enough for a 15 though).

x2, good luck getting that

What about 2 kicker 2500s and 4 bls, that'd be schweeeet.

I have read many places different ways to determine the output of your amplifier as it is in your car, but none have given me the information I need to do this myself. I will be auditioning several amps in the next few weeks, and would like to have real numbers as they pertain to what my subs will really get. Can anyone break it down to where I can mess it up, as far as how to go about this, what equipment I will need, and the approximate cost of the equipment? I'm sure I'm not the only one that would love to do this, and this will allow me to give accurate results and power output when I'm testing the amps. Thanks in advance.

I'd ask them to recite louder...

How to determine amplifier output
tejcurrent replied to tejcurrent's topic in Technical Info & How To's
And that's sad. That's also the reason I want to test the amps. As soon as I can get the equipment together I'm going to try it out. To me it should be easy to set standards for class D sub amps. They are generally used for 100hz and below, so they should have to drop that 1khz to 100. The voltage should be something realistic, 14.4. Really all they should do is say, "what is this going to be used for"? (subs) "What is a good realisitic standard?" and then go off that. By establishing a standard that isn't much if any better than those used by individual amp manufacturers anyway it's just another way to mislead people. -
Very nice! good work. I just bought my first house a few months back and I'm having to do all the work on it (new bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room, etc). Looks like you had a ton of work to get it like that yourself.

http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/ This site seems to be pretty close, many of the amps have been benched by others than the manufacturer and then posted the results. earthquake- don't know kicker 1200-supposed to be good massive 3k -don't know autotek 4k-supposed to be good ma audio-don't know orion 2100-don't know hifonics bxi2006d-good amp, maybe a bit over rated hifonics 1606d-good amp, maybe a bit over rated How much power are you looking for in the end? At what ohm load? What's the budget?

x2, or the sundown 1500s, but to answer your q, shouldn't be too much if you get the options.
-
No Joke! There should be some sort of regulations stating you need x qualifications from atleast x % or employees in any given shop.
-
It would be better for the sub to strap them as it can be a little difficult to set the gains properly, but you can't with those amps. Just put one per coil and make sure you get it right. I had a local shop tell me they did this by just slowing turning up the h/u volume and adjusting the gains as it started sounding bad... They don't have a DMM in the shop!

My brother and I almost bought 4x4 jeep pioneer cherokee. I did the math-could've fit 2 18s in a nice wall. If you remove the seats in back you can fit them below the window line. You need pics when you start, because this is exactly what I want to do. Decided to put the $ into new amps and hold off on the project car till after getting married/finishing the house we bought

I would kill for some of those cactus 5ks or 7ks...but the only dealer in america wants 2200 per 5k, and 2800 per 7k. Way over my budget, but supposed to be amazing.

Stang When I first saw FI subs I looked at them and said probably the FI in HI-FI. I didn't know for sure - Thanks for clearing that up for me. But if anybody asks what F I stands for I'll stick to eff eye till something better comes along. :-) Joe Rod NDMstang is Nick, he is part of the Fi team, so I'll trust what he says I have 2 18" BTLs. I originally just thought I'd get 1 sub, but it was so good I got a second. The Memphis 4ks: 4krms @1ohm 14.4v 2krms @2ohm 14.4v. I believe the going price at the dealer is 1800 and change, but they can go lower. I got mine from a dealer for 1200 each w/ warranty yada yada. I knew a guy at the one shop who got fired who was gonna get them for me for about 1000 each (dealer cost is about 950). I'll post a few pics this afternoon/evening. Because it's so thin it fits in places many of the other amps would not, so that works out great too.

I like those. Personally I've got TERRIBLE eyes (-8.5), so some things really give me a bit of trouble when they get too close together. Maybe on that links image if there was a way to filter out some of the black on the background behind the words it would make it slightly more legible. I like the choice of font- I can see where the 'glow' effect was added to help with what I'm talking about, but I just feel it's not quite enough. I really like it, I just feel the background is slightly overpowering. There is a filter in photoshop that allows you to 'grey' things down. Just my bad eyes talking, and personal preference. my unwanted .02

Looks great, but I can't do that until I get some sort of new alarm put in-just don't trust people. looks good though
