I'd let it roll off. No one here in SC where I live knows about Fi. They hear my truck, tell me it's about the loudest truck they've heard, then continue to talk about how $1000 sub Z would own it. When they have almost no system to speak of, and almost no real experience. I swear if I hear one more person tell me a Jackhammer would be louder than my 2 BTL 18s I'll scream (F*@K pimp my ride!). I almost bought DD 9515s, but chose the BTLs based on customer service, and the fact that from the prices I was quoted, living no where near a dealer I could almost buy 2 btls for the price of 1 DD. Thats rediculous price gouging to me- and I really hate when companies do that. I like having extra money, and if 2 products are equal I'll take the one that leaves me the extra green.

hahah I went to a local car show today of scions...

Generally the headrest, but who knows. I doubt the 10db difference though, if that was the case he'd be bragging off the dash. Have you been metered yet? -
With 2k watts, though it's all install dependent, you should have no trouble. If you have the cash for it though, I'd get 4k a piece-The difference is worth it to me. But if you don't want to pay the enormous difference, 2k a piece will get the job done.

I agree. To me a great sub accurately hits lows with authority(<50hz), but to many I talk to it's helping a weak midbass in the 100-150hz range. It's a matter of preference. My wife sat in a car a few weeks ago and told me it had the best sounding stock system she's heard. It had the sound faded to the back speakers, with almost no deep bass. I thought it sounded terrible. So it depend on your tastes. 100-150 wtf? I sat in a car this week that sounded completely awesome, his sub was crossed at 18db at 31.5hz and below. Most definitely an SQ install. Takes some crazy midbasses to make that work though. my point exactly. (I'd love to hear the system your talking about). Most people buy some ok speakers, hook them up to a head unit, and turn the focus to the subs. Since this is what some people want (although not me), and to them it sounds great, who am I to pass judgement?

Planning on buying some Fi subs, need advice though.

I think it's in the design of the box though. My ported btls have a very smooth response. Especially in the lower end (1db difference between 32hz and 42hz last time I was metered). I think while the ported box does play louder around its tuning, it plays loud at all the frequencies I want it to. just my opinion. -
Someone already suggested them, but I'm happy with my 2 memphis 4ks, very pretty for shows too. I see them all the time for sale used on the t/l classifieds for 5-600. New you're looking around 1200. The list above was good, heres a list of a lot of amps: http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/ Hear nothing but good from sundown too..

Is that 2.4krms each, or a piece? They seem to like a bit more power (like 2.4rms each would be great). I have 2 18 btls and they sound amazing on daily. Better than some of the 'flagship' sq stuff I've had before. I don't know how to compare the 2 subs- mtx vs Fi, but I will say I'm happier spl and sq wise with my btls than any other subs I've ever owned. People like to say spl subs and 18s have no sq, but often they just don't have any experience with the sub in question. Coming from someone who has owned fi for over half a year I'll tell you I'm still happy all around with the btls. They sq is good if put in the proper enclosure. Just my oppinion.

Personally if you want it to sound good and get hellaciously loud when you want it to, I'd do the 2 rf4ks on 4 BTLs. Your h/u should save multiple user equalizer presets. You can adjust it with the bass the way you want it when YOU listen to it, then have another setting with the bass all in the negatives for her. This is what I did for my g/f, she barely wants to hear bass at all. Some amps come with a bass control knob, I personally dont like them-but you might.

I love that no matter who it is, they always seem to cringe a bit.

hifonics is great bang for the buck. What's the budget like? depending on that I 2nd the 2 cactus 5ks, or 2 7ks. Prices (called the dealer) are about 2200 per 5k, 2800 per 7k, and those are some beasts. I personally went with 2 memphis 4ks because of price-but if I lived anywhere near the us dealer I'd be all up on those. The rfs are supposed to put out more like 4500, but they're expensive. The sundown 3ks should be good-I'd wait to find out more. It really comes down to how much you want to shell out.

I understand a small sealed box with medium power will sound good, but the solo-xs should be ported by definition as an spl woofer imo. Like you said as the solobarics are ported and get cranked up they start to sound a little muddy. Not like crap, but not beautiful either. AGAIN that's my experience with their L7s/L5s ported. For my personal (spl oriented) tastes I am more than content, but I have had others complain. I'm not trying to debate their performance, just try to help by sharing my experience. I agree memphis has terrible failure rate, but like I said I saw a half dozen L5s in one month that had the leads just come loose from the terminal-which is not from abuse but faulty on Kickers part. A little solder and they were good to go again. I abused the bejesus out of mine, and I had no problems. I like kicker, and would buy from them in the future, I was just trying to give as unbiased an oppinion as possible. I know that they give great dealer prices, and had I not already purchased my 2 memphis 4ks I would have bought 4 kicker 2500s for cheaper (with dealer price) but oh well.

That's what I did orignially- They should pound.

With 4 bls you should be very loud. maybe a hair trick? but as far as rattling the mirrors in front of you, I was following behind my fiance's car going 55mph leaving quite a bit of car space, as soon as I cranked it up she put her hands on her ears, and then called me and told me she heard it the second I turned it up, and that her mirror was moving. My point is with that much power you'll be annoying others regardless of the car being in motion. Sounds like you're more spl oriented, and if so I'd get the BLs. Done right they'll still sound very good.
-
I used 8 guage to each coil since that's what the terminals will accept (and my amps) 2x 1/0 2 memphis 4ks on 2 btls- who knows after voltage drop.
-
Is this for daily or competition? With that much power (1500 each) you might be better off with BLs, I think for the longevity of the subs they'll like the power better. If its for burps that's one thing, but daily I'd go for the BL. Since there's no info on sealed 18 boxes, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that since a sealed 12 is recommended to have up to 1.6ft^3 that 2ft won't be a lot of space You could fit close to 20 feet in there, giving each one a little over 3 ft, which seems more ideal to me. That's my oppinion, it is a little tough since there's very limited info on the sealed 18s. Good luck.

What about the best of both- loud and lifted! I know what you mean about #s, but I'm all about that low end. Hope to see it at a show one day. I'm thinking about driving down to florida for a show a month or so from now (getting married this saturday-honeymoon for a few weeks, dunno when I'll be back.) Now that I think about it, we're leaving out of port canaveral for the cruise, then bumming around florida for a while. Anyway, great job.

I simply meant that (as I've seen some people do) if you give a sub (or speaker) 1/10th the power it calls for it will rarely give you adrenaline pumping results. Give a 1000rms sub 100 watts, and I would not be suprised if you have dissapointing output-the same goes for door speakers. If your old speakers are blown you'll hear a big difference, but rarely will the lows be much improved, highs much crisper, or any of the things people are looking for. that's my experience and opinion.
-
upgrading your speakers wont have a huge impact unless amplified properly. Do you buy a 1kwatt woofer and power it with 100 rms? that's like taking a 100 rms speaker and giving it 10rms from you h/u, it just doesn't do what it should. Get an amp.
-
Looking very nice. can't wait to see some #s, should do great with the s10. I'm planing on doing something like that in an s10 blazer when the gravy train comes my way.
-
I'd agree with a 2006d, it'll take it great, imo it'll like the extra power.

I think both sound great for spl geared subs. My btls are very musical, and get the very low lows better than any other sub I've ever owned. Very accurate as well. I listen to a lot of rock, and when people hear I have 18s on a lot of power they say 'must be loud, bet it doesnt' sound that good'- then I let them hear it. my 18s sound better than most 'sq' subs, for instance I've put mine beside a dozen 10" and 12" setups, and though mine was much better sounding- better response and more accurate or as accurate as the smaller, sq subs. My brother has a bl, and I like his sub just as much. again, really gets those lows well. The only difference is he wanted to give 1 sub 2kwatts, and I wanted to give them 4k. I feel as long as you stay below 2k on the bl you'll be fine, but that is my experience. Good luck.

Great Stuff expanding foam is ghetto-fabulous My rear doors on my yukon would flex like god knows, so I put around 10 cans of that junk in there, and now they don't flex 1 bit. They move on the hinges, but that's something different. I had a mustang gt with vibrating trunk and tailights. You can add layers of sound deadener, but filling in the large gaps and corners (especially the entire trunk lid) with great stuff made it like a brick sh*+house. It's about $5 a can, and makes an enormous difference for vibrations. I'm not familiar with the car in question, but if it's a corner no one will see, add a can or two and see if it doesn't make a difference. If not you can always just cut it right out.

Having owned L7s, not xs I can't speak on their behalf. I can say a lot of people love kicker, but there are about as many who feel the opposite. Kicker imo has some of the loudest subs of a mainstream brand (alpine,jl,mtx, etc), but their square solo subs lack sq, especially with any volume to them. I personally resent that to this day I can't find a damn bit of tech info on their website. Any other brand you can google xmax, etc, and find SOMETHING. They make very solid amps, and while I think the whole line up isn't bad, many people (including my brother) have had reliability issues with the subs. I worked as an installer at CCity for a little while, and while I was there they had not just the most-but the only returns because of manufact. defects. I actually sat there and resoldered on some tinsel leads that had come loose. Literally just kept coming off on multiple L5s. They were also the loudest thing they carried, but had a higher failure rate. My brothers L7 12 started making a strange noise after only a small amount of play w/ little to no abuse. My L7 15 worked great, and I intentionally gave the 750rms sub 1300 watts every day, cranked HARD to try to mess it up, and couldn't. It still slammed great. I was very pleased with mine, and I simply could not blow it with almost twice its rated power. Again, I'd buy kicker stuff (especially amps) as quick as any other brand, and while I've had great experience- I've heard, and seen first hand many reliability issues with the subs. That is why some people don't like kicker, and there are others who hate them simply because of the fact they are mainstream (stupid reason- Coke is mainstream but you drink that sh*+ like a fish don't you? or F*in folders in the morning).

I have a few yellowtops in my yukon, I'm very pleased. They hold up very well, and even after sitting for days w/out being charged, car off they still hold around 12.8-13v charge.
