I've decided to go with the BTL18

I haven't been metered since, but there was definitely an audible difference when I upgraded- it made me wish I hadnt bought the first amp. I've loved my memphis 4k, but the RF 3000 would be very nice as well. Memphis makes a 2500 I think, or the kicker 2500. Even the RF 2000 seems to be puttin out around 2500. Is there a definite price range you want to stick in? New or used or both?

    Congrats to tejcurrent...

I've had dreams about 2 more BTLs, but the cost of 2 more amps is the only things stopping me. I had a member of this forum (muscman) scam me on an amp, so now I'm a bit leary buying gear offline. He doesn't think I'll press charges -he's sooo wrong. Anyway, just got married and bought a house so that's where all my upgrade money has been going- wife, furniture, appliances, work on the house and such. I don't have a home theater setup, and I was thinking I might get whatever 18 I can get an amp to power. I still have to plan things out, but maybe if I could get a decent home theater amp to power an 18" Q and make a 'coffee table' box finished in a dark hardwood to match everything else- that would be great. Most likely not stupid loud, but I'm sure more than enough for a home theater. Then I'd have to put Fi stickers on my house windows too

    BTL an lows.

As far as the lows question, RIckRolled knows what he's saying- enclose will tell the final story. I would contact Scott (Ficaraudio), I'm sure he'll get you set up. I like either one of those 2 amps, the rf2k or the kicker 2500. I think those RFs are dead sexy though... While the BTLs are rated 2k, I wouldn't be afraid to give them more than that. http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/ has a decent list of amps to compare. Good luck.

    Congrats to tejcurrent...

WOW. I just was able to log on and read this topic. Several times... I had to make sure the spelling was right on the board... I don't know what to say, besides thank you! I've never won a single thing in my life, and I about creamed my pantaloons when I read this. I've learned so much from this forum, I'm glad I was able to help everyone I could, and thanks for all of you who have helped me as well. Scott, and everyone at Fi, thanks for your products, your service, and the prize money.

Is this a good amp for 2 18" BTLs

I'd call hifonics. In another thread someone said they could get an xx-Goliath for $1k or less (can't remember). That would be great on 2 btls. If there's a set budget that would help, or are you willing to wait a while to get what you want?
  7. Sorry, didn't read his thread. I just moved into my new place and its been 3 weeks and the cable company still hasn't come out to hook up my internet. Borrowing the connection from the neighbor 2 houses over= slow connection=longer load times=less reading. Anyway, it'll def. be a sight to be seen. If that caddy's turning into a 2 seater I think those subs will see enough space. If he can get around 20ft in the back of his yukon (without a wall) and still have the middle left, then there's no reason he can't get 40 out of a wall. You can fit 2 batteries under the hood with almost no effort if I'm right (atleast thats how the older ones were.)

I know I have a car audio addiction when......

Dude, I 2nd all of that - I drove around for ever not having a seat, panels, or carpet on the pass. side because that's where I was mounting my 4 channel, and it helped to get the next run of 1/0 to the back. -I found its helpful to go to shops and ask the guys working there if they have any 'scrap' 1/0, because they often have some from personal projects. Just got 15' for $20 that way -Last mustang had no spare, just equip in the spare. When you become dissatisfied with your new(er) car because it wont fit enough equipment. Do you know you're an addict when you're up at 1 in the morning repling to a post about how much of an addict you are?

max r.m.s. to a fully loaded BTL

I really hate that ringing too It's from hand guns when I was little, but it sucks to never have silence, except when there's background noise.

max r.m.s. to a fully loaded BTL

I would've let him go w/ 5k daily. I like my 4k each daily. Gives head room, right? really though, on rock and some other types of music that don't have a steady bass line, I'm really glad to have the extra power. If I had known I could've gotten two of those amps for 1600 I would've gotten those instead of my memphis 4ks Could almost buy the 2 more BTLs with the $ I could save on buying 2 more mojos... On the cd 'Harvey Danger- Where Have all the Merry Makers Gone' I never could hear much if any bass at all. the extra bit of power really helps keep the bass up with the highs/mids well. I just saw such a huge difference when I upgraded to the mojos that I think it would be a good idea to have power on tap. Room to upgrade. Oh well, I'm sure it'll be retarded when it's done anyway, please post some pics/ #s when you're finished, and good luck.

Is this a good amp for 2 18" BTLs

If that's RMS power then you should be ok. I liked 2kwrms, but to me it wasn't enough. You say starting place, then yes. I had mine for a few months on around 4k rms total, then upped it when I had the money. If this is what you mean, why not? I don't think it will be too much at all if the signal is clean. Good luck.

    Bl vs. Alpine X

I really liked my type-x. It sounded clean, and took a decent amount of power. VERY sexy looking sub from all angles. But next to the BL the quality of alpines flagship sub just isn't there. I like the one I had enough to put it in my wifes car, but the BL is much louder to the ear (drop in), and to me actually sounds a bit better. The 'jumpers' for coils of the type-x are a good way to make the alpine look great wiring wise as well, but once you get past asthetics the BL wins hands down.

I've decided to go with the BTL18

lol, Now if only I could check my own stuff a little better I see what you mean w/ the 2 subs though, gotcha. "you're like my spell check" LOL.

    BTL Wangage Video

Damn. Tell me you're older than me, so I can say I want to be you when I grow up... That's sick. Have you metered that yet? Looks incredible, very good looking wall there.
  15. This thread brings a tear to my eye. It's so beautiful.... Besides show value, I am wondering a little bit about why not a couple amps to put out more power that would be a bit more affordable than this one. Like the RF 4000s you have, why not 4 of those? I guess the way it's jaw-droppingly sexy, so who am I to question. I'm sure it's going to be amazing, can't wait to see some vids- maybe some numbers?

I've decided to go with the BTL18

I believe you mean 1/2 ohm load or 2 ohm load and 'if you get TWO D2 then you can wire it in 1 ohm or 4 ohm' I know you knew what you meant. I can tell you from experience that 1 d2 btl 18 on 1 hifonics 2006d will be amazing, but you'll be better off if you save a bit to get a little more power. If it's something you need right now, you'll be very satisfied with the combo, but if you're in no hurry, I'd wait. The amps can't be bridged together, and it's difficult to get them to match up perfectly per coil. Then you'll still not see that great of an increase in power. They are great amps, just not quite enough for the loaded BTL imo, although enough to get some serious movement. Again, if you're in a hurry and thats in your budget, get it- it will wang plenty and sound decent. If you can wait a bit to shell out some more dough, you'll be rewarded with a noticable increase in output and a bit cleaner sound from a different amp with a little more power.

New BTL box I am going to make

You never specified if you were going for spl or or loud daily car. Either way I'd like a bit more space and port area, but obviously if those are the dimensions you have to work with you cant afford to really increase either. I'd make sure you router the port openings, but I still think you'll have a bit of port noise. If for a loud daily car, I'd tune a little lower to help smooth out the response a bit. Just my opinion. Honestly though, if it looks good to you try it.

    BL and L7

Been a few weeks. Have you made a decision? I really think you'll be happier with the BL, the difference is there imo, as long as install is right. I feel the BL gets the lower notes a bit better. Anyway, did you order anything yet?

    RE + Fi = fire

    That's almost depressing. That sucks.

    Why high end audio??

I don't know that I could go back if I wanted to. I strive to get better sound all the time, and even now am not satisfied with the sq of my car's audio system. I just bought a house, so I don't have the home audio that I want yet, but I'm working on that. It hurts me to listen to music on friends I-pods or even FM radio. I used to download MP3s, but at 360kbp the files were large enough to take up a lot of space, and still didn't have the clarity I wanted. People want Loud, clean means means there's no static. Imaging is something you do in photoshop, not with your stereo. Its sad but true. I've always loved good quality music, and hearing it sound true to life is that much better, but thats not what people care about, so quantity will remain in the forefront.

    boxes

Yeah, tell my yukon about the weight of MDF My rear end looks like it's been lowered with around 400lbs of box + audio equipment in back.

Full rebuild to sell the car

6.5s why not alpines from best buy, or infinity. I agree w/ ngsm on kicker, CC has some cheap kicker stuff. What about a JL W0 or W3? I think you can get those cheap and your "target market" thinks JL means its great no matter what model it is.

    Dewalt Drill...

I do car audio work on a semi daily bassis, but I own a maintenance business where I use drills/screwguns every day. I always have 2 drills on me, both 18v. The Hitachi drill was around 1-150. It has plenty of power for drilling pilot holes (even holes in masonry) and is light enough to hold over your head or outstretched when need be. The Rigid costs around 2-250, and is an inch or so higher when sat next to the Hitachi. It weighs a few pounds more, but while it has similar ratings to the hitachi, it drills through anything I've thrown at it almost as well as my older Milwaukee drill. It's held up to a ton of abuse and is a pretty serious gun for 18v. I like most of the rigid drills I've used, but dewalt just doesn't appeal to me for much other than accessories. Out of all the guns I've used I think the hitachi batteries recharge really fast, and are a great value for the price. While I'm not saying you might find something, or others down own something they like better, I think the new Hitachi stuff is pretty decent. It's light, but powerful enough to get most jobs done. I'd hit up lowes and just see which one you like first hand.

    When to double wall?

The box flexing. If you check the BTL 18 review I believe I have a pic in there of the sub and port facing rear-ward. I had a problem with the box flexing A LOT and the rubber gasket thing that should be sealed tight would actually work its way out from behind the sub. That large piece (about 48wx20h) had a lot of movement, and if you look at the left side of the sub in the picture you can see where it came out from under. There was nothing wrong with the size of the whole, too big or too small, I checked that 3-4 times, it would just come out after really pounding the sub for a bit. It flexed because of lack of bracing. Adding a 2nd layer and some decent braces to the new boxes took care of the problem.

An interesting question I forgot to ask

I know, cash problems suck. I just got married and had to buy ALLLLLL new furniture and appliances. Not to mention the house is a fixer upper, so all new hot water heater, plumbing, and some wiring. Light fixtures, showers, etc, college for the wife, etc, (Honeymoon), etc.... I've already spent my car/sub/amp upgrade money and then some. If you have the equipment, a few hundred more bucks for a better/additional alternator and wiring/batts will be plenty worth it You could just go easy on the volume till the gravy train rolls in with some electrical upgrades... Either way it'll be more than enough bass for everyday.
