Need a bassrace woofer ... open for opinions
tejcurrent replied to Loudon22's topic in General Audio
A 15-18" BL does seem to fit the bill nicely. -
'think lightweight' you could consider it your workout as you lift your drill up again and again

What voice coil configurations do you look for?
tejcurrent replied to Puggsley456's topic in General Audio
I am running D2s because my amps put out the power I want at 1ohm. -
I'd put it inside the car, floor and firewall. unless the goal is to be quieter to others at stop lights.
-
Are you trying to find out what will be better in your car, louder, cleaner, or just curious about the specs themselves? I'm just trying to understand if you are equating motor to sq or spl or a mixture of both or what. Thanks.

What $35 dollar one. And yea pics will be up as soon as i finish sanding and bondoing the fiberglass tprjs $35 one.

How well do you want to deaden it? I used about 100sqft on my mustang trunk, (but that was excessive) so being how big the cadillac is I'd use 50-100, depends on how many layers you want to use and what your goal is. More is always better for sq.

so turn down the gain untill i get a capacitor or what do i need to do? You need a battery and a better amp that puts out more power. A High Output alternator is a GREAT place to start too. More expensive...but worth its weight in gold. DO NOT buy a capacitor. Do not listen to ANYONE that tells you they are good to have. Those people are lying to you. For the same cost, you could get a battery from walmart that will be 10,000 times more beneficial to your system. In the mean time. Turn the gain down, and don't bump so hard. You are possibly doing permenant damage to your sub. Turn any bass boost off, and turn your gains down. If it's getting hot like that it's probably not sounding too great either. If it doesn't sound as good at volume as it does at 1/4 volume, full volume is too much. Get a more powerful amp that will push the sub to its potential without make that amp fight to do it, and take it easy on your equipment till you can. can't agree more with getting batts vs a cap. People will tell you 'a capacitor will release the power quicker than a battery so it'll sound better when it hits', but what happens once that cap is drained? It must suck more power to recharge itself, doing nothing but making the problem worse on extended bass notes, while the battery will take much longer to drain. And as said about the alternator, where is the battery going to get the power without an alternator to keep things charged? That would be step #1 to me. Hope this helps.

Only problem with that is finding a decent amp that'll give the q fair power for a reasonable price. HT amps are crazy expensive at any dealer around here. Then I still have to find a good source unit and speakers. Honestly either one will be similarly priced in the end. The house has hardwood w/ a red/blue oriental rug in the living room, so slightly darker woods would look very nice. Maybe a mahogany? Either way, the killer has been the amp issue.

If that's all you have, try it. If you have port noise you could try the same box w/ more port area, but I don't think there's any one definite answer out there.

are they selling them cheap enough to get the 2 ssds and sell the 1 you have towards the future 2 to match them? Do you want copper coils?
-
Personally, I would run from anyone who actually talked like that in person. lol... Ever see the movie Malibu's Most Wanted?

I don't know RIckRolled. I know you know your stuff, but just my 2 btls tuned a little below 35 gets those lows pretty violently. With the filters on I don't let it play much below 25hz for the woofers sake, but with them off it was very uncomfortable, even below 20hz. While I didn't hear much below 25hz, I felt an aweful pressure on my ears- everything moved up and down slowly but so far it didn't look safe for the car. So I think with that much power/subs it could still be good. May not be anywhere near where it is at 40hz, but I bet it's still uncomfortable to sit in.

Nah, thats cool. I'm just happy for the credit towards the gear. Now there really is an urgency for me to figure out what I'm going to do. I would make a 'poll' except that I know almost everyone would say put 2 more btls in over the home setup, and I'm trying to find 2 more memphis 4ks for a fair price-open to used. I have to say thanks again though, i'm giddy. I've got about 1k, so maybe a 3 btl 3 mojo 4ks till I get more $ ???? Does that sound good to anyone? I've never been too fond of 3 sub setups though...

Better late then never... yeah at the PD we use S&W 5906 9mm I've been to the gun range frequently and shot it with ear protection (the least i would use is those little plastic ones you stuff in your ear) and it sounded like baby firecrackers... When i did get into a shoot out at ala moana shopping center it actually full on startled me.... caused me to shake my hands more then when the guy was blowing off 12 gauge rounds my way.... I never hit the guy though most people think it's so easy but try aiming and hitting a 145lbs man in the dark in a parking lot with about 30 people (including kids) in the background while he ducks and dodges between cars blowing 12 gauge rounds... he doesn't need to account for stray rounds or if he hits a by stander but we do so you can imagine the situation... Well suffice to say got out of the PD after that... Still got my glock 9mm though we get to keep our off duty since we were former PD and will probably need the protection.... I also have an ar15... i would love to get a 30.6 though..... Wow- lucky you came out on top. My wifes uncle works in Charlotte NC on the PD there. Not many people realize the stuff you guys put up with out there. I've got a .38 special I haven't been able to fire yet, but I really want a 9mm for target practice. I have an old bolt action 30.6- It kicks harder than the 12guage and is so much fun to target with.

x2 My brother could've afforded whatever sub he wanted in his truck, he chose the BL because he wants nice clean loud bass, not to compete. He put 2kwatts on it, and is very happy. It sounds great and is louder than the 12 he had before- loud enough he almost never turns it up all the way. The electrical upgrades and space for amps can also be a killer with the BTL- how many people realisitcally want to figure out a place to put multiple batteries in their car?
-
It does sound like your problem is you need to upgrade your mids as M5 has said. A subwoofer should really be crossed over around 60hz, if the bass sounds lacking when you do this, it means upgrade your door speakers. Get a good 4channel amp, and some good components. The upper bass lack is what good mids are meant to cover. Captain chitstains deluxe- I believe That white girl is a song by USDA that has a very deep bassline throughout the whole song.

It's addictive. I was in high school, started with 2 type-r 10s in my first car, been going from there. Buy YOUR stuff while you can. Being married has a drain on the wallet I want 2 more BTLs & amps, she wants appliances- I'm like "baby we can live on bass and love". Guess not.

The other thread should explain the options good, but I say get dual 2ohm BLs. What size are you getting (sorry if you said this, didn't see it reading through).

I don't set the sleep, just leave the tv on The cable company has taken almost 3 weeks and still no cable in my house, so I'm sleeping w/o. The wife refuses to sleep with the tv playing/radio anyway, says it bothers her, and I have learned to compromise quickly. The crickets/frogs are pretty loud here, and I can just ignore it some times. Long story short, I was concentrating on a target at my dads farm when I was maybe 10, shooting 22s, when he came up right beside me. I didn't pay attention, and a few seconds later he had shot a few rounds from his new (think it was .38, might've been .45 but I think .38). Shouldn't have been that bad, but my ears rang obnoxiously and sounded cottony for days, then it settled to where it is now. Funny thing is I'll target shoot 12 guage shotguns and my 30-6 and it just doesnt seem loud enough to do that kind of damage though. I do wear hearing protection when I'm around guns now.

I really think the BL likes closer to ~2k watts, while the alpine just wasn't very happy after giving it 1k+

I was going to say (a little late now that it seems you can get one for a good deal (35+tax/ship)) that there are lots of 'decal' shops that do car magnets and business logos that will make them for you. I'd go for the $35 one. Normally I'd worry about theft, but i think the only ones who know about fi will be those who you show your setup to. Can't wait to see some of those pics.

Wow. can't wait to see some #s- good luck at the comp. "lol...hes like my age (18-19)" - is this so? I just started drinking in the bar this year, so I guess not too far off.

Everyones invited! Myrtle Beach is a popular tourist destination anyway- everyone come on down. I'm about 2-3 months out from 'completion', but I'll let you guys know when I get the grill set up.
