    Opinions needed ***18" BTL Install***

^^^^ I want an Iraggi Amputator My opinion is it should sound pretty good. Do you have a question about it? Is 48" wide the biggest you can fit in your yukon (Just curious becuase I'm getting the same body style and maybe my setup will move to the new vehicle)

Damn, small world indeed. Thanks for the tip on the future alternator problems Yeah, I'm definitely going to some more shows. My uncle owns a car dealership here and is supposed to be finding me a new yukon/tahoe/suburban this week, so as soon as I get that I'll be ripping everything out of my current yukon. Then the build will begin all over. As long as things go as planned I'll be ordering 2 more BTL 18s and getting 2 more 4ks after that I'd love to hear those BLs when you get them in, have you started on your box yet? That's a god send w/ the termlab- thanks! I've been considering buying one since I just can't access one here at the beach.

How does a Harmon Kardon 245 sound? Very pretty if nothing else. I think I've found a good used technics table for reasonable, just wanted to check it out a little first.

    First Home Theater Setup

Hey guys, I'm trying to make my first h/t setup. I really need two seperate setups, one to please the wife, and a second for me. I've been into car audio for years, but until recently I was only home for a few hours to sleep, so the car was more important than the house. I'll give you a run down of my expectations and limitations, as well as what I already have/will have/have planned. Expectations: I really want something that's going to sound good, get the full range very well, and not break the bank. I'll probably have to take my time to get everything I want right, but I need to know what to look for. Limitations: My wife. She wants a decent sounding system that'll be 'pretty' for the living room and give surroud sound- pretty meaning not taking up much space. I think towers from floor to ceiling would be fine, but that's not her idea of a nice living room, so that must be saved for the game room/den. I already have a PS3, 42" Panasonic Plasma (1080something) that I want for the living room. I plan on building a coffee table box for a Fi Q 18" subwoofer and finishing it to match the other furniture. Q1- is there a reason not to do this sound wise? It seems similar to many prefabricated designs of a much smaller nature-like many 10s are downfiring in a corner with a port, firing sideways, any reason for mine not to be this way? I would like to power the Q with somewhere between 500-1000 watts, but I don't know what kind of amp, or where to find an amp to power it. I'm soooo tempted to ghetto-fy it and buy a generator to power a car amp I have laying around for it. So I guess what I'm looking for is: What's a decent source unit type/brand I could look for? What type of amp should I look for? Will I need a seperate amp for the speakers-or can I run them from the source unit-and if I do what should I look for? Sorry for asking so many questions, but I'm not really sure what's good in the H/T world, and what all I'll need. Budget on a setup the wife will be happy with (She wouldn't mind a sony wallhanging system from walmart) that will be a little better than what I'd find at walmart, is ~500. Budget on the 'Nice' setup is not really there, since I'm planning on taking my time. I DONT need anything that will make the most decerning audiophile mess their britches with glee, just something that will sound fairly true for a fair price. I would say to try to keep it under 2-3000 but as I said I don't know what to expect, so that is up for change after becoming a bit more educated on the subject if need be. Thanks for any help I can get, it is really appreciated.

    First competition

Thanks for the help. Today was a great day for my alternator to start dying. I've noticed it hasn't been keeping 14.5v like it was before, but today was aweful. After getting there I pulled out the dmm- 13.9v at idle with nothing going-and it dropped to 13.8 @1500 rms At full tilt it dropped under 10v- That baby is on its way out. They started out with bass race, I did a 149.9, which was loud enough to win 1st place. So when I got there they told me my freq. was 44hz, which sounded much higher than I thought. First run for spl I got a 150.6@44hz. That just sounded so high a freq from the little bit of playing I've done on the a/c mic, so 2nd time around I just tried 35hz to see how it'd turn out. I got 150.8@35hz. Voltage was too low to really do any better, it took quite a while to get back near 14v. I got 2nd place to Todd Hardwick who set a new state record 157.7 in the truck/suv 1501+ class, I got (way behind) 150.8. The heat was pretty bad, around 90 in the shade, but there wasn't a cloud in the sky and the sun was hellacious- everyone said they were having a hard time with it, but I just didn't know what to expect. I appreciate all the help- it was pretty interesting to see what others were doing and talk to guys with a lot more experience than me.

    First competition

So I'm taking my setup to a 1x event in timmonsville sc. I'll finally be getting metered on a t/l, but I'm wondering what I should bring with me, and if anyone has any tips. There are 2 classes they said I could compete in, truck/suv or something else like extreme personal or something like that. I don't know what would be better, or if it makes much of a difference because like I said, it's my first competition. I've already been told not to do anything to drain the batteries before getting metered, don't know how sound that is or not... Just wondering if there's anything I should know before driving 70+ miles away tomarrow moring. ;D Thanks.

    ssd's or Q

Same power to each, but with the 2 12s having more area I'd do that.

    Wanting to get louder

If you're tuned around 31hz chances are it's tuned too low for your cab for spl. I'd spend some time trying to figure out your resonant frequency- and build around that. Having a port for daily and one for spl would be very beneficial since you could still be tuned low for music, and have a large® port tuned higher for burps. A lot of people with trucks seem to be happier tuned in the high 40hz range. Normally having more port area will help yeild some higher #s, even if only a few 10ths of a db. How much port area do you have? As far as making the box smaller to handle more power- that's an idea if you have a lot more power. Since you're giving it 2k watts, what options do you have? I'd say doubling the power should give you a nice boost. Even still a larger box should help the efficiency of it- meaning make it larger if you can. A larger box on the same power could increase the peak a bit. Why not try 5ft^3. The best thing you can do is just try several different boxes and see what helps you get the best score. Experimentation is all you can really do to find out what works best for you.

    18" BTL

I GOT 1 18"BTL WITH A KX2500 TUNED TO 47HZ IN A LEXUS RX300 I GOT A 151.4 SEALED AND A 154.6 WITH MY PASSENGER WINDOW OPEN. ^^^ Yes, when he says tuned to 47 hz that has to mean it is ported . I used to have 2 bxi2006ds on 2 btl 18s. I was very happy with them, until I found out how they sound with more power. The amps were OK, but I'd go for 1 memphis 4k over the 2 hifonics amps any day. You should gain a theoretical 3dbs with an extra sub on the same power, so between the 2 options I'd choose 4k on 2 subs- that will be your best bet towards a hair trick. Its really all in the install, but 150 should be do-able under the right conditions with the right installation. I know my one btl 18 with a memphis 4k was doing small hair tricks if that means anything.

    Meal ideas and recipes

Buy a roasting chicken, normally found for around $5-10, and get some roasting bags clean it out and stuff it with carrots, potatoes, a little celery and a fair bit of salt and pepper and poultry seasoning. Scatter carrots and potatoes outside the chicken as well, and cover pretty well with the seasonings (salt, pepper, poultry). put it in a roasting bag and lay in in a baking pan, and put a little water in the bottome of the bag, bake for ~3 hours @ 350. Always comes out really juicy and tender, and tastes great. Takes about 10-15minutes of prep time, and costs between $10-15. Great leftovers and sandwiches later. Stir-fry. Buy whatever type of meat you want, I say chicken goes best with this too. Get a bag of stir-fry mix (vegetables) and some teryaki sauce. Start a pot of rice and cook the rice while you're doing the following. cut the chicken into small cubes and fry in a skillet a few minutes. Then mix in the vegetables and sauce. Fry for about 5-10 minutes till it's all thoroughly cooked, and you're good to go. Also a good meal for $10-15 that'll have great leftovers, and takes about 15 minutes start to finish.

    15" BL vs. 15" Avalanche

I vote a Q because it should sound exceptional and match the power you have fairly well.

    Girlfriend pain

I agree that you must establish that you make the decisions. But I dated the girl who cheated on me for several years, and we were infact engaged. Sometimes no matter how much you love someone, its not for the best and you just have to stop caring. Or at least try. The only reason I stayed w/ the girl so long is exactly like you said- she was the hot red-head that would do ANYTHING. Now I'm much more satisfied with the girl-next-door who cooks, cleans, and does 'almost' anything What you are talking about is exactly why there are so many people with the 'hit it and quit it' attitude, and I say, whatever makes you happy.

    carburetor needs work?

I've found wd-40 works pretty well as starting fluid just haven't been to go get the real stuff I sprayed some of that in there, but I couldn't get it to work. I didn't think to check the spark (always end up getting the crap shocked out of me cause I just stick a screwdriver in the boot for the plug) but I will first thing in the morning. Everything is very junked up, so I guess if I get spark the carb will be cleaned. Thanks for the help/advice.

    carburetor needs work?

Does anyone know anything about working on small engines like this one? I recently got 2 shindaiwas- t260 and e260 (trimmer and edger) and got the edger started with a simple tune-up. I did the same for the trimmer(t260) and had to replace the primer ball for the gas because the old one broke and I wasn't able to prime it. There was no old gas left, but I think that's because it was left sitting for 2-3 years and it evaporated. New gas, spark plug and air filter, but it just wont start, and as I pull the cord an occasional sputter of gas/oil mix comes out. Anyone have any ideas? I figured I'd ask before I yanked out the carb. Hate to have to do a complete fuel system rebuild either, just looking for any input.

Which of the two would you do and why

I stand corrected. I remember reading about a group buy of 900 or so an amp, I just thought that had changed. Guess it's best to just ask. Thanks a lot.

Using Bolts as Terminals for subs

I never had a problem with mine, and if you're using 3/8, I have just drilled 5/16 hole and you can screw the bolt in with your screwgun. Just tighten down the chuck and screw in place. Good luck!

Route 1... It is hard to find a woman who wants both. I was with a woman 3-4 years before I found out she was cheating on me (even though we did it AT LEAST 1-2 times every single day. That was ho-in'. I'm recently married though I've got the best of both worlds: a woman who cooks, and one who's hot- and now that we're living together its great Got to weed the garden to get the vegetables. Plenty of fish in the sea, yada yada yada, goodluck, don't let her worry you bro. Be glad she didn't give you an std...
