I just beat on them like a redheaded step-child. It took months of that before my btls got where they are now.

Looks extremely loud

Sorry for not being on here this past week...
tejcurrent replied to Fi Car Audio's topic in General Fi
I can remeber searching on line, looking for a good 18" driver. I don't think I actually purchased anything till around end october/ beginning of november, but I remember how amazed I was when I saw the company, the service, and especially the products. On Fi's 1 year aniversary I'm every bit as happy with things as I was then. Here's to another great year Got to think of a way to use those Xs -
Awesome I'd love to hear that- there's NOTHING like that around here. My stock charing system is aweful, but I wouldn't mind hearing your system regardless. Let me know, maybe there'll be a show somewhere in between one day? love to see a build on the 8 15s btw...

double post. I'd rather see 1 large sub as denim said. I'd try a different box if you aren unsatisfied with your btl before changing out equipment, that's me.
-
I wouldn't recommend the mojos. They can get very loud, but I hear of people blowing them all the time when given more than rated power.
-
That sounds like custom btls to me I agree completely with the h/t crowd thing, but I can see where it would be great to put some of these in a car for show factor.

If you have to order equipment from other places anyway, sundown 3k, memphis 4k, rockford fosgate 3 or 4k, cactus sounds 4k, stetsom has some nice amps, massive 3k, and many many others. You could even get two smaller amps (like two sundown 1500s) and power it like that.

Nick- I love the subs. I couldn't be happier. I was amazed at how loud it was with as little power as they were getting, (they only move about 1/2-3/4 of an inch peak-to-peak on 29hz tones with no filter), I just don't have them getting enough power. 12v ac doesn't do them any justice I like the sound of this box much better than the previous two- I listen to a lot of rock/metal and they seem to get the faster kickdrums much better- but it still retains the low end very well. Every person who's heard the system near me has said 'that's the loudest thing I've heard', or 'you're the loudest vehicle in conway/myrtle beach'. Again, with 1/4 to 1/5 the power they'll be getting they're already making a big impression on people near here. J31Rob, I have 1 135a stock alternator and 3 Optima Yellow tops on 1 run of 1/0. This is why they aren't getting more than about 12v ac each on full out -0 test tones. Even still it drops to 11v dc at the amps and theres some heating up with the subs after maybe 2-3 songs or several straight minutes of test tones (don't do that often ). I'm really excited to get the alternators- I've got some pretty high hopes. I'm really considering running a 16v setup, just debating if its worth it. From what I understand the memphis amps are supposed to really shine with higher voltage. I think stinger came out with a battery that has a 16v side and a 12v side so I can just have 16v batteries in back and run the cars computer stuff off the 12v side, but I can't find one anywhere. That would be great to not have to keep an alternator for 12v. If anyone knows where I can find one of those batteries please let me know/post a link, I can't find it anymore I think if I get 2 iraggi 260s with external voltage regulators with a few 16v batteries in back I might be OK for a while till I can get the cash for the 2 remaining alternators. Anyone with any thoughts on that idea I'm all ears- NO ONE here- shops included can tell me anything about it. It will still be atleast next month before I get even 1 or 2 alternators with the way things are looking, but even that will be a huge improvement.

If you get 2 btls with the thought of upgrading to a 2nd memphis 4k later, you'll want to get dual 2ohm coils so you can get the 4k at one ohm on one sub. In the mean time you'll have to run the amp at 2ohms, with only 1k per sub. This would make it easier on your electrical system till you upgrade, but you'd be underpowering the BTLs quite a bit. If you ran just one BTL on 4krms and let the 2nd sub sit until you got a 2nd amp that would be pretty good, and again electrical upgrades would be a main priority. If you don't want to make the jump to 8krms down the road I'd get the loaded d1 ohm BLs and call it a day- and put the extra 200 towards your charging system. That's my thoughts, good luck.

Looking good. I feel your pain on that hitch

Thanks a lot. Woking on my painting skills, I'm painting the baffle and making the amps mount a bit different, just need to find the time.

I'd love to get my hands on one of those 21 inchers. I'm not that familiar with the line, do you think I'd be okay with ~3k rms daily on the 21? If so I might need to start saving [Wife opens trunk for groceries and SUPRISE! lol]

^I agree, but I can tell you- they clip the bejeezus out of their amps. They either crank the bass boost all the way up, or have a fully stock charging system trying to put out a few thousand watts Too many people mess up really good subs by not being careful. Then 'why is my sub hot, I'm only giving it 2000 watts'...

Someone with a lot of experience might be able to tell me what the results of my plans could be? I really don't want to make another huge box a month or so from now, and wood is expensive, so I was planning on building a 20cube box @ 32hz for my 2 btls 18s I have now. In another month or so I plan on getting another 2 btls, which I could simply cut 2 more holes for them and use the same box. does this sound reasonable? I'm sure the first two subs would be OK with that much space, but will there be any real negative effects to doing this? I know there will be a slight change to the specs after the displacement from the subs, but it will only be around 1/2 a foot. Thanks a lot. Troy

Okay, all done. I carpeted part of it and decided just to have it painted. I'm drawing up some designs, but I need to get ahold of the friend who can do it for me. When I pull it out I'll probably add a few more pieces of rod and some more 'glass, but it's working good for now. Here it is, like I said it needs painted. 8guage speaker wires. And it's all in place! Better pics of that once it's painted. Here's a 30hz tone Young joc track 5 off the new cd I went to a pawn show where a guy asked me to stop by when I had things finished, after about 30seconds of music they pointed to where their bikes had fallen over from the bass (must not have been propped up that good). That's some door movement- all windows up. I don't know how well it picked up but it moves in and out a good bit. Shop windows flexing Hair tricks? http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b126/der...=hairtrick2.flv Mohawk to Beats 4 my Van And a few shots from the show last saturday- set a state record in beg. hardcore of 152.6 I'm giving each sub around 12v AC, so less than 4krms total till I get the new alternators in, Im still holding a steady 11v dc at the rear during steady 30+ second notes, so I'm happy with the score. not too b

Beginning of the trim plate. Putting the port in place. Painted the whole interior flat black- can't even get a good pic lol. Cut outs? Okay, this 3rd layer is part amp rack, part 3rd baffle layer, flush mount for the subs and threaded rod. Everything fits great. Rounding everything over. Dropped one sub in to test fit, worked out great. All beveled.
-
All done but some sanding. taking things apart to assemble Lots of glue Nailed, glued, screwed, and clamped. ready for the port. Edges all smoothed off. Next comes the allthread. Flat black paint in the port Drilling the holes for the threaded rod, One for the rod, one for the board to flushmount This hole bit works great- it's from a door knob install kit- I think it's 1". Just big enough to fit a socket in Socket on the nut to center the rod up. Glued, nailed, and screwed in place. There the nut/bolt is countersunk in the bottom of the box. Smooth bottom of the box. I love this wrench, it lets you fit over the longest bolts (great for seats in cars too). Screwed in tight and ready to trim the excess The sawzall makes quick work of it, I love this battery powered rigid model- fairly light and works great. Very few pics because of the mess, but the it's all fiberglassed with 2-3 layers now. Subs and amps. They look so great together!

8x30 Port fits great- so tight I had to use a rubber mallet to get it in. I doubt that second pic shows it, but it's very tight. Using the new circle tool- works great. That's just a scrap piece of plywood, I'm happy with it. first layer of the baffle temporarily screwed the 2nd layer to cut the holes. First hole. 1/16th of an inch over, I doubt it will matter the subs will be close Last one left

Gluing the port together. 3/4 bevel Using a jigsaw free-hand- FTL, still turned out pretty good. assembled Test fit

Sorry on the uploads, I've been really busy working and some other stuff. Let me post those pics

I was giving them 4k each, daily, I have the amps turned down till I get my charging system up, but a memphis 4k each. Check out the vids in the tech section under 4 btl box.

Just wanted to say I got things in last week. Only 3 were actually running when I went to a comp saturday- 152.6 sealed up- set a state record of 152.6. This is with only 3 batteries and stock alternator- 1 run of 1/0. I just turned things down to the point where there's maybe 1" of peak to peak excursion with each sub, and the voltage stays around 11v on drops. Even still it sounds great- 150.5+ @ 30hz. I have a loooong way to go with the aesthetics of it, as well as the electrical upgrades. Also I'm still running stock speakers (which sound aweful btw) so those need replaced. Vids: Wait till the last 30 seconds or so of this vid when the deep notes kick in http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b126/der...=hairtrick2.flv Tons of work still left, but its' still fun turned down. THANKS Scott!
