The Doors were a bit trickier...I had to dremel out the speaker inner door skin surround...here's a shot before we removed it...! Dremeling out the inner surround... With the inner surround nearly done... Here's a shot before the outer speaker adapters were modified sitting on the MBQuart speakers... I originally mounted the Quarts in the 1" speaker adapters-it hit the door panel. So we ended up cutting them down to 3/4". We used a table saw to do so... More shots modifying the Metra Speaker Adapters. The Quart baskets are so wide it hits the door. They only have 5 1/4" speaker openings. They will not fit. So we had to add a spacer(we use the dremel to smooth out any ruff edges)... The doors turned out to be a lot of work. Here is what the door looked like after the speaker and tweeter was installed. I used high density foam in between the door and the Metra Adapters to fill any gaps. The speakers fit in really, really tight and secure. Take a look! That's it for now guys... MR2

The tweeters turned out to be super ez...I was able to remove the old ones and just push in the new MBQuart Tweeters(.75")into the Tweeter cover... Here's what it looks like pushed in from the back of Tweeter Cover...

Hello All... I've been reading through various post to learn more about building a system and now I have a question. In the past I've have built a number of car stereo systems but due to funds I haven't had a system in a long while but now I'm ready to build one up again. I'd like any input on my proposed system. I understand you all have different opinions and experience. This is just what I've come up with my own research. I'll go ahead and leave my list below. If you think it's a good setup feel free to let me know. If you'd take a different approach fill me in. If you think I'd be better off with different hardware like I said it's been awhile and I know things change. Older brands that were once really good have now turned into lesser brands. My list of components will pretty much give you an idea of my budget. If it's a lil' bit more I'm willing to invest more into it if you feel it would be money better spent. It's always a bummer when you fork out your hard earned cash and then your share you system and someone goes...oh man that's cool...but...you could have spent the same and got this...or for just a lil' more you could have gotten this which totally rocks...you catch my drift. Proposed Hardware to be installed into 1991 Toyota MR2: Head Unit: Jensen 9424BT(I like the look of the Double Din, with Nav and Blue Tooth so I can stream music from my phone to the deck-also it seems like the best price point for these features). Speakers: Front Stage: 6.5" woofer/.75 Titanium Tweeters Separates MBQuart 218.3 SX (These are the old, old ones I got like 8-10 years ago left over from a previous system). Rear Stage: 3.5-4" 2-Way MBQuart DKE 108 Shallow Sub in Truck Box: MBQuart RLP254 10" 4 Ohm DVC (I notice there are a lot of better looking subs but I need a shallow one so that is one reason I picked this one). Amp(I originally was looking at the Alpine PDX-5 or PDX-F6 for it's features and price point but after a bit of research I'm now looking at): Zed Audio amp: Leviathan II (also thinking of taking advantage of Group Buy) Cap: 2 Farat Capacitor(own) Battery: Optima Red Top(own but I think it maybe back) Wiring: Various wiring left over from previous builds. If your not familiar with the Toyota MR2 it's a pretty cool mid engine car. The engine is behind the cab in the rear of the vehicle opposed to the front. That leaves a small amount of storage under the hood. This is also where the battery is in the back center along the bottom of the firewall. I figured under the hood is closest to the battery so that is where I planned to install the amp, crossovers, cap, etc. Has anyone on the forum have any experience installing in this particular model car or know anyone who has one? If you have any tips to share I'm all ears! Thanks for checking out my post. I'm excited to start building my new system. Ryan ps: If I missed anything feel free to let me know...

Thanks for following my post. I bet you were wondering if I'd ever start...or if I was just making this all up. Wonder if anyone ever does that...lol. Anyway...I believe I have everything. I will likely take this is two stages. One will be running all the wiring and hook up the HU to the speakers the previous owner installed. Then I will be pulling the doors off and doing some sound deadening and figure out if I need to do any tricky mods to get the MBQuarts in the doors. Ok back to it. My hope is to at least get the HU in tonight...! MR2

Thanks for checking it out and the encouragement..! It's been friggin' painfull staring at all these components and no car to be able to put it in. Spent the day running around picking up some last minute parts. I'll do my best to take shots along the way...so far the phone is the easiest way to do that since it's always on me. I'll take much better shots with a real camera once it's done. MR2

Ok Guys...build finally begins...just got car out of the shop after two months. Engine Swap complete..! Check it out here: My link
-
Unfortunately build is delayed due to mechanical issues. The engine is in but needs more work. I don't think I'll get it back till early next week. =( Oh well I did get the rims put on, got a new 50 series Flowmaster muffler installed, Koni Yellows, and Eibach Sportline Springs...also replaced some support bars that were all rusty in the rear. Hopefully it will be mechanically sound soon so I can get my build started! I have to keep reminding myself this is a 20 year old car and it's going to take some tlc to get it back to where it use to be. Thanks for your input and interest guys..!
-
So I guess when you have a 20 year old car your going to find a number of things that need to be replaced! That is the case with mine. My mechanic almost daily finds something he needs a new part for. So again waiting for more parts from Cali. Still should have it done by weeks end he says. I can hardly wait...!!!
-
It has pretty limited space with the spare tire. Also that is where the amp board will go. So I decided to put it behind the passengers seat.
-
Man getting painfully close to done I think. My buddy called me today and was revin' the engine...! Goin' over tomorrow to check it out and help out with suspension. Looks like this weekend is build time....!

Yes MR2s are pretty sweet..! I had one years ago and had to sell it...what a shame...it's ok....this one will be way sicker by far...! Can't wait to share the build and some pictures of the progress... Thx 4 d comments guys...! It's really hard to be patient...but I'm trying really hard to be...!
