whats the cost of reconing a 15" ns to a 12" ns?
-
Im gon need 2 thanks

ill b sealin off my trunk on my next project. the new box will b 3.5 cubes @ 35 using 2 4" aeros, the rest of the equipment is n my sig. comments? dos or donts?

how are you calculating this rise? A friend and me checked it a few weeks ago. As I don't remember the exact number but I know it was close to two ohms. I would of checked today but it's raining... if this is a dd why are you so worried about rise? and it sounds like you only tested at 1 frequency

reading the hoffman's iron law sticky, and have some questions. low end extension, high efficiency, or small enclosure size i know you have to chose two. and im looking at: low end and small enclosure how does the tuning and port area affect this? does it mean i need more port and a higher tuning? also assuming more power will be needed?
-
It means you will have low efficiency. Nothing else is related to Hoffman's the rest is just basic enclosure building 101. Yes low efficiency makes you need more power, but no matter what you still need a driver that is appropriate for the enclosure you choose. when u say low efficiency u mean a sub that has a low efficiency to achieve the results im looking for?

yea i know that, i have 3 4"s now in my current box. but wont be able to fit 2 6"s in the box. unless you can show me a way to do 2 6"s in a 25" w x 16" h x 22" d box tuned to 34 along with a 15" sub, i dont think theyll fit. Can you make the box a little bigger? yea but not with that design. im tryin to regain some of my trunk space. i have the nightshade in a 4.7 cube box @ 32 now and want retain the same sound in a smaller box. The 15" Nightshade doesnt need to be in a box that big, what made you make the enclosure to 4.7ft^3? yea i know, it was a direct swap wit my hdc3 and lowered the tuning

appreciate the love! so will the port be efficient?
-
thanks, just wanna make sure its enough port
-
well recones still be available for the NS v.1?

very sad day today... so im rerunning some wires in the car, and i open the trunk and see this..... so what happen was my oem radio i had laying in the back, somehow slid itself perfectly between the box and the trunk wall. everytime the sub moved, the metal edges on the radio cut deeper and deeper. so jake i will be in contact, to get a recone! 15" D2
-
thinkin bout that too!!!
-
its all good. ill be back and stronger then ever when jake get back, and get me a recone!

Why do you use a 50 or 60 hz test tone to set an amp whether then the lowest frequency the given speaker will be producing?
-
yea wish i didnt have to pay for it lol yea thats good naw i definitely wouldve cried if that happen lol trying to get into in contact with him. guess i have to put my hdc3 back in.... Jacob is @ meca finals in tenn ....so he well be back on Monday .. thanks

yea i felt like crying.

i dunno, first thing that came to my mind lol.

thank you again. just wanted to ask some real knowledgable people that actually know what their talking about!!

I personally wouldn't trust a cheap DMM to measure rather accurately at other frequencies. so if i understand this correctly. youre sayin it doesnt matter where u set it, it will play the same at either frequency? If you had a resistive load, yes it would have the same voltage output, no matter the frequency within the amps specified bandwidth. A speaker is an reactive load, so the impedance will change across the bandwith a lot when playing test tones. Were both test tones of the same reference volume? Like both -3db, not something like the 50 hz tone at 0 db but the 35 hz tone at -6 db? But I'll look around too and see if I'm wrong. its just a question. somebody asked on another forum what tone to use and i said 50 or 60 and somebody else said u need to use the lowest frequency it will b producing. so im just askin the question, which 1 is rite? I don't understand the idea behind the 'lowest frequency it will be producing', because that way you'd have to set it at some absurd frequency. IMO, you should do it with your ears. Your ears should tell you when you are clipping the amp or sending the subwoofer too much power. Because it is typically in between your sub-sonic and LP filter. If you are using an oscilloscope you are best off setting your gains with all the filters off. It is also dangerous to set the gains at "the lowest frequency" for your system. The subs excursion will be at its maximum here and perhaps it won't actually take the power you are giving it if you are using a 0dB tone. 50-60Hz is much safer for that reason. In particular if you have a ported enclosure you need to be well above the port tuning as well so that the box doesn't unload and destroy the driver. If you set gains by your ear, which IMO is the only real way to do it, then it is also dumb to use a low frequency tone as your hearing is not as good at lower Hz. Of course, the reason I set by ear is to blend together with my front stage. I am not into getting output out of my sub as IMO that is not at all why I have them, but instead I use the sub to fill in where my midbass falls off. If you are into max output then an oscilloscope is truly the way to go. thank you!!! so this will go for setting components as well (he said use the lowest frequency as well, instead of a 1000 hz tone)?
