Sending a memphis amp that is stable to only 2 ohms is probably the MAJOR issue here... I suggest disconnecting the speakers immediately from the amp.... When you head into the shop ask to be present when they look over the install and equipment... ask to see the READING on the DMM for the subs that go into the amp..... If the reading says 1ohm then ask them for a refund immediately and explain to them that as "professionals" why would they send a 2 ohms stable amp a 1 ohm load... If it says 4 ohms on the DMM then ask for an immediate refund since they have already been dishonest with you by saying it was a 1 ohm load... (i have seen this tactic by another shop before, you bring in outside subs, they wire it so it sounds like crap, then throw in one of theirs, wire it correctly, sounds good, you end up buying theirs since you think the outside brand sounds like crap)... At half gain, the subs produced no sound at all. Amp is brand new as well. If they sent a 1 ohm load to that amp it would produce no sound probably cause it was going into protect to avoid damage..... Wiring: Subs wired at 2ohms each totaling 4ohms then bridged to 1ohm to the amp. If the installer told you this ask them why they would send a 1 ohm load to a 2 ohm stable amp ?? Last of all i would pull out the subs and check the wiring... one coil could be out of phase and wired incorrectly... that may lead to subwoofer issues as well... make sure the coils are both wired correctly...

woohooo that 20001bd i would definitely try set that bad boy with an oscope on the BL... That amp got some balls... Good thing your BL is fully loaded philip.. the 8004 i never heard in person.... so i can't really say how it would do but what kind of comp. sets you got

box recommendations for 12" FI bl
theabunai replied to hiloracerboy84's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
1.5 ft^3 i would do roughly 18 ft^2 of port area But i don't think it's a good idea to go so small with the BL it will start to become rather peaky in response.. For SPL i would just take your current enclosure with its 1.8 ft^3 and tune higher for better SPL numbers... I would do roughly 27 ft^2 of port area and tune around 40hz -
What a way to make a first impression eh !!

Steve how is the Escalade handling the weight thus far ? -
No one stock battery and an extra in the trunk won't "tax" the stock alternator... The isolator has nothing to do with the alternator, in fact in simplest terms the isolator is off when the engine is running and on when the engine is off... Some argument can be made that the only "effect" the isolator will have in regards to the alternator is resistance between the alt and the batteries.... In short if you like to play the stereo with the car off get an isolator with the engine on... no isolator If you plan on running more then 2K watts upgrade the Alternator to a HO Alternator based on the amps amperage draw rated through it's efficiency...

I can post SEVERal links that makes this persons post very very wrong... I can point out a few places where he contradicts himself in his very own post that proves he himself is saying MDF is better then particle wood... for example look up Particle wood density look up MDF density MDF is denser then particle wood then look at his posts Ok does that NOT just say MDF is BETTER then Particle wood ??Much more flaws i can point out where he contradicts himself.... here lets look at this one then in the next line he says So he admits that not being airtight causes distortion BUT is baffled why some people are obsessed with making an enclosure airtight... I can point out much more flaws... I am not the all knowing person I am just pointing out he flips flops back and forth.. And i would've thought you caddyon would've picked up on that since you strike me as someone who is on a quest for knowledge... Caddy it comes down to this my friend... MDF cost just a little bit more then PArticle wood a few bucks (2-5 dollars more a sheet).. the benefits are many..... Better sound, better construction, better material, better overall quality for just a few bucks more.. Nobody is saying you CAN NOT build a box out of particle wood, hell you could build a box out cardboard for that matter.. What everyone is telling you is that for a few dollars more you can construct a box with a material that will yield much more positive results then another type of material... So why not use it ?? You keep asking people why MDF, whats so good about it, why is it beter then particle wood and there are so many post that PROVE why it is better... that should lead you to ask yourself this question... WHY NOT MDF ?? Why settle for average when you can get better for only a fraction of the costs...? it's like someone offering you condom with a 90% chance of protecting you from an STD for a $1.00 or a condom that offers a 99.9% chance of protecting you from a STD for a $1.75... Go cheap and hope your not the 10% or just go a little extra for that much more assurance...

Wow that is a pretty good raw test crunch... I mean your right not scientific but it sure does add to the MDF is better then Particle wood Theory..

Best buy also recommend there 8ga kits for amps that can push 1k watts... just cause they have it doesn't make it right.. Particle wood is cheap and the retail business is all about making money... they can build it cheap sell it expensive and make money.... sure it will work, but is it the best... no same with the 8ga kit.... will it work... yes.. is it good the best thing for your system...NO Flexing can not be seen with the naked eye unless its a large system... I do know this though as an installer A person came in with a box made of 3/4 particle wood.... ONE 12" MTX on a 1501 MTX amp Said he was upset cause it sounded like chit... wanted his money back on the sub... sounded rubber band like... The owner was able to negotiate that we make the EXACT same enclosure (since he made his to specs) with no charge and if it sounded the same we would refund the price of the sub... We made the EXACT same box with MDF, same port length, same everything... needless to say it sounded richer deeper and louder.... this could be a rare instance but i do know that boxes made with MDF have a different "sound" then those made with particle wood... I don't know the science behind it as i'm not a physicists but i do know that there is a reason why competitors, manufacturers, High End install shops all use MDF... Cause if there was no significant difference to particle wood I am certain they would use it....

hmmm they both hit the lows better just that the BL will take more watts (with a few upgrades) thus giving it output advantage...
-
couple choices really.... you got roughly 9 ft^3 before sub/port displacement.... is this for Daily or comps...?
