Got my (2) ssd12 box designed

got the center foam attached to some 1/4" peg board. why drillholes if i can get it with holes in it. I really don't plan on useing it but i have it if i need it. Suppose to meet the upholstery guy Sat. to talk about it. in the second pic you can see the metal i drilled holes in andweled to the frame so the upholstery guy can hog rinf the upholstery inside the opening

Got my (2) ssd12 box designed

So now I have framed in the soft seat. I did it once and I made the panels a little short so the edge wouldn't show thru the upholstery then i thought that i want a nice clean edge. So i re-made them all. I am not one to keep a project I have started and finsihed for time served. if its junk or not right i through it away and start over. I have some steel stips to add to the back of the seat for the hog-ring attachment inside the opening. i still have to do that, they need to be tack welded on there. so here they are. that panels are attached with upholstry glue - the good stuff, not the 3m 77 can crap! then i drilled holes in the panles and put the metal rods inside the seat through them with some epoxy and CA glue. one the upholstry glue sets, that foam will rip beofre the panles come off. I still have some fit issues. I think i need to bevel the edges of the cover panel so there is some room for upholstery around the edge.

    Curious about cutthrough in truck

this truck has that done. it was in truckin and has an upholstered seat with a hole in for the cut through. here I am doing something very similar in by T-bird right now. The seat is off at the upholstery shop right now. I had estimates from $350 to $1000 to cover it. I went with the $500 estimate. I bought a seat from a junk yard and started cutting. Then framed in the opening. I won't use the cover much since i rarely drive the car but its there if i need it.

So nick, was there any reasons behind the specs for the box?

i got all of 10 min to listen to it so far. those with little kids know. its louder than my sealed 15's were. i didnt mess with the gain between the switch of the boxes for a comparison and an that amp got pretty hot in 10 min.I might be crazy, but it seams tighter with more punch on bass drum kicks. is that possible with a ported box comapired to a selaed box? the port is on the driver side and i did some bassmeckanic songs, it was like a fan behind my head with the air out of that port. No noise that i can hear yet. definatly need some more time in the seat with these.

got it wired and in. Too late to try it out. Pops good with a drill battery though Tapping on my old sealed 15w6's they are dead sounding - this box with the FI's have a little ring to them. I hope they aren't too boomy/sloppy or the box color the sound. We will see. I think i can tell aready they are going to kill the 15's in volume off the drill battery thumps i played with. after testing and i end up likeing it ??? - i will make it look good in the car and seal the trunk off from the cabin.

got some more done. I doubled the front baffle. and i painted the port. BUT - I see most people use a rattle can so it has a dull finish becuase the MDF soaks it up. So I thought - reguular wall paint, and for those that have apinted a insdie wall before , a roller adds a little texture to it. I think it turned out good. The paint was about $4 at OSH. I had to snip one of the rollers shorter because it rubbed the side of the port when i didn the bottom.

I've read the reviews and this box specs out almost identical to what you tested. How did your ported box compair in volume to your sealed. I'm coming off of (2) JL Audio 15w6's running my Zapco Studio 500 @ 6 ohms to this box running the Zapco @ 4 ohms. Is this one going to blow the JL's away in every repspect? I like like tight but really wanted to se what these things can do. I am normally a sealed box guy myself.

Yeah - that was my plan. I didn't want to obstruct the flow in there too much but add some stiffness to the baffle. I may double the front baffle. I have to see how it fits first.

    Free stuff :)

Cool - I like it. Now for you to be offering a free shirt that must mean they are available? Will they be up for purchase? I plan on doing the steps but am building the box right now but 1 shirt may not do it for me. There are 2 days in a weekend I think I will need to buy some as well. I am all stocked up on my Steve Meade Items from system of the month. Time for FI items. I do have to say that I had never heard of FI until I found Steve Meade's site. I don't know, but he seems like a great marketing tool for FI. Popping out glass eyes definately deserves some bragging rights.

    Breaking in SSD

are they specific break-in instruction for the SSD? What is the procedure. Will they come with the woofer ? In the reviews i noticed they sound better over time. Is this typical as things start to loosen up and get moving?

SSD 10 and daily driver power

I would think you could do better than that. I have (2) ssd12's coming monday and I am going ported. On the woofers i have now (not FI) with the same power sealed they did 136db and ported they did 143.5db. Maybe do a ported box for your competiton and do what you like for the daily use. I am a tight/sealed kind of guy but I am starting ported to see what they babies can do. If they get the shirts going by then you should get one. If its not Rockford or JL they won't have a clue. Have fun with it. Boy If I could go back to high school knowing what I know now Hum....
