+1 My loaded BTL 15 has GREAT sq. I can hear the actual viberations of bass strings on Police and Peter Gabriel recordings...not just the frequency! That, to me is SQ.
-
Typically it is 3rd magnet, full cooling, & hixmax coil. The dc resistance, and lead's are up to you. Extreme leads are said to make noise druing high excursion...the regular BTL leads are huge.

What other ideas do you have? We can shoot 'em down all day long! ...but at least you're thinking, that's good.
-
with what meter? Located where? Tone or music? I just think you should save some $ and buy a bL which will reach full extension under that power for sure! Termlab. Arkansas. Tones 46-50hz. in the fi section...theres a thread to post your score. I explain everything there.

I thought that getting rid of the passives was correct...but sometimes I read things wrong...thought I'd ask. If I'm getting rid of the xovers...should I buy a component set? Or should I shop for tweets and mids seperately? Recommendations? Tweeters that are outstanding...rainbow, morel? What do you think of Image dynamics horns? Who makes good mids?

Have one of the guys on DIY build it for you. There should be someone that could get you schematics for the original Foreplay...then have it built. Tubes and ptp wiring are the ultimate in audio...good luck.

and by "wang" I mean 147ish dB's got metered today.

Ported! I was a sealed fan for many years....MANY years...then I built a slot port box for my BTL. The build was just as easy, and the design wasn't very difficult. The output is WAY better than sealed, and the SQ doesn't diminish at all. So you can't listen to SUPERSUPER low stuff...but 30hz up is dandy! I will rebuild my SSD box in a week or three and it will be ported. I'm happy with sealed...but i know ported will sound better and get louder.

I have some more questions. I'm using a Sundown 100.4 What do I do with the crossover network that comes with the speaks? (use it or toss it?) Which preamp out goes where? If I'm running my tweets on channels1+2 and my mids on 3+4...will my amp drive BOTH SETS of channels from ONE preamp input? There's a sale on some CDT 3way's and a buddy was trying to convince me...but I don't want to cut holes in my doors (leather) and I'm just starting and want to K.I.S.S. Anything else I should be thinking about? Thanks.

who all compete's with FI subs? what organization and burp or musi

Can we sticky this? Mic: Termlab Setup: 1(one) 15" Fully loaded BTL and 1(one) Sundown saz1500d. Box: 4 cubes with 74.25 inches of port tuned to 32hz. In a VW Passat wagon...sub back, port back. Stock 90amp alt, stock battery. 147.4 outlaw...@46hz 146.6 legal...@50hz oh yeah...sub is wired for 2ohm load! HAHAHA This was my first "meter" too. Not bad for a noob? -
Personally, I would not recommend either. The BTL will want MINIMUM 2k watts per sub. You are more in the range of 2 BL's. However, if you want 2 BTL's I would reccommend 4 SAZ-1500D's or wait and get 2 SAZ-3000D's. I have a BTL15 Loaded on a 1500d at 2ohms. So it is seeing MAX, less than 1000w...and it bangs. Box is 4cubes tuned to 32hz, and I can bottom it out, at will, between 30-50hz. I was going to put my other 1500d on it, but I'm starting to think that I may just get another BTL and run them each at .5ohm It may TAKE many thousand watts..but it will wang with less than 1kw.

A week ago or so my batteries came in. I got 2 Odyssey PC2150's They'll each have 1 sundown 1500d. Those are going to be bridged onto a single loaded BTL 15".

Theoretically, it's a terrible idea. Never seen (or heard) it done. Try it and report back.

Having owned a new beetle, I would NOT own another one. It took the accident in stride, but there were so many near misses that it just scared me to have my wife in it everyday. People just don't pay attention to you in a bug. They cut you off, pull out in front of you, and are basically blind to you.

Look at station wagons. Usually lower cost used. Lots of space for multiple subs. Reasonably quick.

I hear about amp hours and cold cranking amps...and deep cycle... What numbers do you want higher and which numbers do you want lower?

Trying to get my electrical system strong..
dopey replied to jprix82's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
What does a battery isolator do, and are they a requirement? -
I tried to get the most port area possible using an "L" slot-port. The box is 39"x18"x18". I wasn't paying attention to this when I designed (threw together) the box. Fi recommends 12-16 square inches of port for every cubic foot of interior volume. 48-64 I have 74.25 square inches of port and 44" length giving me a tuning freq of 31hz. And here's my question, should I (could I) do something (short of taking the box apart) to reduce port area, and raise tuning? Specifically, can I cut another 3/4MDF piece to fit snuggly in the port to bring the width from 5.4 to 3.75...or similar?
-
Will they both melt in hot summer (100*+) temps?
-
If you're looking for all out loud, go with the MAG. If you want loud and the same SQ...at 1/2 price, go with the Q.

Is roofing tar the same thing as asphalt?
-
So it's a budget thing? Along with the horns do I need mids? The Image Dynamics horns are rated at 35w RMS...They must be LOUD!!! Something like 108db efficiency What's the main difference between $250 horns and $800 horns? Loudness or accuracy? Thanks for answering my questions.
-
Actually 2 sets. Budget approx $400 for both sets. They'll both be powered off a Sundown sax100.4...the front set getting full power. The rear set will be set low, so power handling isn't an issue there. They don't need to match, but the front set needs to be loud. They need to be able to handle the sine sweeps of bass music. I burnt out a couple sets of tweets with bass music. Apparantly, I need some components that are tougher than infinity reference's. What would you recommend? Should I get $100 rears and $300 fronts? or two sets of $200 for front and back? Should I buy a low end set of Rainbows or CDT's...or a higherend set of Kickers or Alpines?

Fully loaded BTL 15" w/ single saz1500d sounds like a whole bunch of sealed 10's. Except it goes lower and gets louder. The Police's greatest hits sounds great. I'm having some front stage issues, so I've been focusing on the bass... This BTL has great SQ! Better than my friends believed it would sound. Better than I expected too. I can't wait to add the other 1500d and 'glass the enclosure and also run a 100.4 on some CDT's.
