Gain setting?
dopey replied to pinkfloydms's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
I know the post you mean...but I couldn't find it either. Looked around for almost 5 whole minutes! Really did look...If I find it later I'll post it. -
Thank you! I have a BTL and an SSD....I have followed Fi's recommendations to a tee, but I always wondered what a giant BTL would sound like sealed. Shitty and peaky is good to know! I appreciate it...and I'm sure Steve91 does too.

Dip a stir stick in resin....let it dry...and then break it. Then break one that wasn't dipped in resin. Then tell me again that resin didn't strengthen the wood.

Gain setting?

I use a DMM and I'm not stupid. A gain knob is a voltage pentometer. Unless you can hear voltage or below 5% THD, then there ain't nuttin' stupid 'bout no DMM. What you talkin bout Willis? A DMM is useful IF you have an occiliscope...or if you're using two amps to drive ONE speaker. Otherwise, just use your ears. If your ears don't work, and you can't tell if the subs are too loud or too soft...or you cant determine that you have to crank the HU to get any real output...you need more help than a DMM can give you. Perhaps you were sick the day level matching was discussed in class? I guess so. I do it by ear. How do YOU do it? And more importantly, why? -

Amp for Btl 18" 's
dopey replied to 30hurtzaudio's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
You won't get a "good" amp for that price. Add $200 and a couple months and you can have a Sundown Saz3000D. Should be close to that @ 1ohm. Never the less, it will pound 2 BTL's into submission. -

Yeah, just use your ears. If you can't tell that the bass is too loud, or too soft...WTF are you buying car audio chit for? lol. Us Arkansans gotsta stick together. -
Bueller....Bueller.............Bueller............

Cut the MDF yourself. Lowes fudges cuts. They should be used as a last resort. Liquid nails worked well for me. I got a caulk gun and a couple tubes. Used it between the Front baffles for a 1.5mdf piece. And I used it for corner caulking. Dried overnight...Not sure what RIckRolled's problem was...? Resin will stiffen the box...so will bracing. I'd use BOTH.

He's not asking for a recommendation. He wants to know WHY Fi doesn't advise using a BTL or BL in a sealed box. Will it break the sub? Will it screw up the freq response? If so, how? We all know a sub will not be as loud in a sealed enclosure...saying it won't reach its potential is not a helpful answer. I have been wondering myself for awhile...and have asked...however, I never got any "real" answers. Qts being too low....doesn't tell me anything, if Fi refuses to answer questions regarding T/S param's

You don't need all 5 of those. You should send me one.

I can't stand those guys.

That's good info Nick! Can you explain why the BTL's don't like sealed boxes? Or what a BTL would sound like in a sealed box? Output and such.

Congrat's LB!!! Nice B.O.A. Boob's on Arm. Don't forget about her friend though!

Phew, was just noting to self "stay clear of Arkansas" J/k We have a reputation...for a reason. Come to Northwest Arkansas. It's like a whole 'nother conservative christian enclave.

You DO have a SET of rca's going into the amp don't you? TWO little plugs?....if you only have one...nevermind... If you have two...switch their places.
-
Switch the RCA's going into your amp.
-
A BTL will get loud off one 1500d, but you can always add another 1500d later on if that's not enough. BTL.
-
Do you have a phase knob on your sub amp? If so, play some tight fast bass songs, and slowly twist the knob from stop to stop and put it where the bass sounds onbeat the most.

What about 2 maw12's ported?
