    Fi Q

GF has a 15" Q in her car in a ported box, 3.5^3 @ 32Hz. I was never very happy with it, always sounded boomy/muddy, so she always had the remote gain knob almost all the way down. I had literally spent around 20+ hours trying to tune her system. Cut to the present. I removed her Pio HU and installed my old eXcelon with 4.5v pre outs and the diff is night and day. The sub is twice as loud, but more importantly the bass is very controlled and accurate sounding. Her Crystal comps also sound tons better and match up well with the Q. She listens to a lot of Tool, Pantera, Diana Krall, etc... so a pretty wide range of music. The Q sounds excellent on everything she throws at it. I popped in some newer rap stuff and it literally shook her car to death, but was far from boomy, just hard hitting low bass. I'd say the 12 or 15 would work out very nicely, with the 15 having more output if/when you need it. Kick drums have a very nice punch to them. I always knew this sub was capable of way more than it was doing and finally with the HU swap it's living up to it's rep...

    Just got another one!

Congrats, aweseome amps!!!! I picked up a used one for $200 the other week and will be nabbing a 4th later this week. They'll be powering 2 HD315's with each pair strapped at 3ohms, so around 2500watts per sub. Should be loud when I'm in the mood

Ascendant Audio is up to new things

$2k is the complete sub and the technology that went into it and "if" it's truly better than most anything on the market then the price is rather inexpensive...

Guess you should just PM ///M5 since he has all the answers...

Ascendant Audio is up to new things

I heard the Conquest last Fall as Chad was nice enough to demo it for me. VERY impressive sub on all the movies we demo'd that day. QUITE a lot of output as it literally shook the walls, but not boomy or muddy at all. Dug deep with tremendous output and explosions had a ton of impact. Being a DIY guy I only wanted the the 18" driver, but he was pretty set on selling the complete sub, so I had to pass. I wish him well on his new venture...

    Running 4 1500D's

I just picked up a 3rd 1500D last night for a steal of a deal and might pick up a 4th in a few weeks if the guy decides to sell it. Is there way to wire one remote gain knob to both strapped pairs of them? If not how do you normally control multiple amps as I really like being able to turn them up/down from the driver's seat?

    what size sub is optimal

15" RL-P in around 3.5cubes tuned to 32Hz would be very nice for a mix of SQ & SPL. And yes it'll sound much better than an R. Good luck on the box build. I can do up a design if you give me the dimensions you can fit.

I wanna get loud...but i wanna sound good

Because most of the "grunt work" is handled by your midbasses. The sub is simply there to round things out below 40Hz where the mids simply run out of mechanical travel. Ideally, you wouldn't be able to even tell that there's a sub present, but if you turned it off they'd be something "missing" from the sound. Sounds weird to describe, but in person it's very obvious. Go see post #47 if you want to see what I was replying to...he asks the questions, I answer 'em, I don't know what his state of mind was, nor do I care to know Ahh...i understand that... Im pretty set now on my sub(IXL) I was pretty set on jus running a single component set up front...no rear fill...but this isnt a TRUE SQ setup...so a rear fill wont be so bad...as long as i get a good set of speakers(probably another 6.5 component set) Now....what type of amp would yall recommend if i went with a dual component set up or a single component setup? PS...What is some good budget sound dampener...especially for a trunk? Coax's will be more than enough for the rears and you'll probably end up running the gain lower on the rears, so they don't overpower the fronts. Especially if mounted in the rear deck reflecting off the glass. Profile AP1040 is a solid budget amp that I've used on several installs. Many more out there of course, how much did you plan on spending for the amp? I've had good luck with the aluminum foil peel & seal from Menard's/Home Depot. About $15 for a 6"x25' roll. Use brake cleaner to make all surfaces grease/dust free and overlap the ends by 1" or so if you can. Others can comment on the mainstream deadeners and what's the least expensive that works well.
  9. Why not use the 100.4 to run them active since it has the ability to BP the mids?

Jake, thanks for the quick response. Now where to mount 2 more of them, maybe the roof. LOL Trunk cars sure make things interesting....

    Sundown SPL Truck

Nice numbers and impressive looking set up. I have a feeling all that dust is costing you the .2 you need for a '60 LOL

I wanna get loud...but i wanna sound good

Why is his budget daily set up being compared to competition SQ cars? He's not going to compete, he simply wants something that will sound good to his ears and get respectably loud. Kind of drifted off point it seems... PG RSD comps for the front, Pioneer REV 6.5's in the rear, and a Profile AP1040 would do that for you and not cost a fortune. I just installed that exact set up off a different amp in a 2003 Deville and it sounded pretty good. Was clean sounding and got plenty loud. That's one of many combos that will work for a solid daily ground pounder. Try and go to some local shops and listen to the speakers before you buy them to make sure you like the sound. Bring some of the music you listen to, so the demo will be worthwhile. As for the sub situation "I've" found that turning the remote gain knob down will make my subs blend/sound better. Does that make it a true SQ set up, not hardly, but it sounds good and still has the ability to be a beast when I'm in the mood. That "sounds" like what the OP is looking for. I'm sure either Mach5 18 in a decent box will do the same for him. Hope this helped...

    2.5 @ 30 to 3.5 @ 30 for my RLp 15

I've run them in 3cube boxes at 30 & 32Hz and preferred the 32Hz tune. Still sounded very flat, not boomy at all, but plenty of punch/authority, dropped low, and sounded louder. You could always build it tuned higher and lengthen the port a few inches to drop the tune if you don't like it. I would "think" that going to 3.5cubes should help out with the lows, so a little higher tune might not hurt at all.

    what size sub is optimal

You located anywhere near chicago as I build boxes for a decent price. Otherwise for the price a shop charges you could buy a circular saw, jigsaw, and cordless drill and build your own. Plenty of guys on here that can walk you through the process...
  16. If this is any kind of violation mods please delete. This is what he was quoted over the phone: 8" mids = $900pr planar mid/tweet = $1k pr xovers = $750pr I was pretty interested in trying out the planars but $1k is a little much for an "experiment" LOL
  17. I know that AA subs are more geared towards SQ and I've heard the old 8's and they sounded very nice. No experience with the SSD's, only the Q. Do you have anyone local that has either sub, so you can take a listen?
  18. Has anyone seen the prices on the new mids, planars, & xovers? Guy I did an install for called them the other day for a quote. Not cheap, but not out of this world I guess. Don't know if I'm allowed to post the prices he was quoted???

    what size sub is optimal

x2 I ran 15" RL-P's at 30 & 32Hz and they sounded very good for all types of music at both tuning freqs. Tight bass with kick when it was supposed to be there. Very nice sub that's often overlooked lately....
  20. You can also look into SVR & Deka if you have a local retailer.

Anyone know of a good home audio book

Hit up a few HT forums and start reading/learning. Good luck on the install. You going to do a projector?
  22. Looks good. Be sure to give feedback on how it sounds...

    Ok guy I give up

You aren't going to hurt my feelings, I just wanted to make sure the OP didn't take your advice as golden considering it wasn't. Had no intentions of trying to hurt anyone's feelings. And my advice for sub/amp was one of many combos that would give him what he "appeared" to want, but he does seem rather confused, so perhaps it wouldn't. Why do you seem to have a problem with my opinion not being the same as yours as that's not usually your MO on here...

    Ok guy I give up

M5, nothing I said was directed directly towards you, sorry if you took it that way, so please unbunch your panties Not even going to bother responding to the rest of your post as it does nothing to help the OP...

    98 blazer ssd's or btls

Couple of HDC315's in the right box would do that number no problem in your vehicle and still sound good for daily. Throw 3-4k+ to the pair and you're set. BTL's have the ability to get louder, but will require more power and stronger electrical to support them.
