That sounds like a good spot for a pair of DCON 10's in optimal box. How much amp are you workin with?

sax 1200d ssf help
MrBrooks replied to donaldkbart's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Search this forum for "subsonic filter setting". Stephanhighnote explains the PROPER way to set it. Also....if the box is tuned to 32Hz then that is where you need the ssf set to.....the idea is to not allow the driver to play below box tune to keep proper control over it. -
New Crescendo amps FTMFW!!!!!!!
MrBrooks replied to edouble101's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Does anybody know if the 1000c4 is due to be updated? Would like to see a SSF added to it. -
Thnx......the US amps site won't load on my phone to verify that. That's an awesome footprint(10"x14.75"). May be able to get it under the front seat. One site that google pulled "claimed" this amp to actually be 1ohm stable in stereo. They claim to have run 16 4ohm speakers off it @ 200w/ch and it would not clip/thermal/or go into protect. Don't think I want to find out the truth on my dime.

Does anyone have experience with this unit? When I google the part number I get a bunch of sites saying it is discontinued and listing it as a D-class, its listed as AB in the store. I can only assume by the listed footprint it is a D-class. It looks to be a good substitute for the Crescendo 1000c4 I have been looking at. I am growing weary of waiting on Crescendo to release their new comps. So this amp and a couple of sets of the IA 6.5's may be the way I go.

Does port/woofer aiming really matter that much in an SUV? I'm looking at placing the box in the passenger rear corner with the woofer firing cross cabin and port forward.
-
Yeah my "desired" box loaction and wanting to maximize available cargo area limits my design. Rite now I'm looking at outside measurments of 22.5x18x8.5 with a 4x5section in the lower front corner removed for contoure purposes and a 1x7x12.5 port along the 18"wall. That should yeild ~1.26ft after displacement and ~32hz. I just want to know its not gonna sound like ass when I get done.
-
Just every day listening. Will be DCON 10 in 1.25ft @ 32Hz. Running off of channels 3&4 of a crescendo 1000c4 gained down to 300w. Not lookin to shatter records or even compete. I just wanna hear the whole song bottom to top.

Anyone know when Crescendo comps will be available again?
MrBrooks replied to MR_8's topic in General Audio
Spoke to them yesterday. Was told new CZ series would be available in 2-3 weeks. Look for $130-$150 range. Beefier mid, redesigned tweet and x-over network. He said new website should be up in about a week. He said the CZ65's will still be "rated" @ 100wrms but will handle atleast 25% more than the CCX65. -
setting gain to unknown output value
MrBrooks replied to MrBrooks's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Yeah......found the formula I was looking for after I made the post. Looks like I pick up 1.7wats from 4 to 3ohms any way. 2V is a huge swing from 2ohm to 4ohm? I ask because I don't know. 15V@2ohm and 17V@4ohm. Anyway backward calcs only show 76.7w @ 3ohm. So I'll just set it up for a 4ohm load. Just don't want to over drive anythhing. -
setting gain to unknown output value
MrBrooks posted a topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Here is my problem. I know the out put values on the amp @ 2ohm(115wrms) and 4ohm(75wrms),what I don't know is the output @ 3ohm which is waht my comps are. Should I assume a midpoint? And effectivly gain down to say 85w(100wrms 3ways and 90wrms 2ways)meaning figure voltage for 85w @ 3ohms and set accordingly. Or do I just need to get an o-scope and do it on a bench? -
noob with a noob question
MrBrooks replied to superman814's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Touche'. You are correct. That's what I get for opening my big mouth on no sleep for 26hrs(18 on the clock).!. Always glad to be corrected. At least 6yrs removed from any real power calcs anyway. Sounds like you need one less sub or one more amp and sub. -

MrBrooks replied to superman814's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
To my knowledge ohms law still stands!!!!! And no,16 16ohm drivers on 1000w does not make 16Kw output, it pts 1000w on 16 drivers all seeing the same input(which should make for some nice fireworks) not dividing the input as you would get if you were to run the load in series. Unless AC and DC theory has changed since I graduated with my electronic engineering degree!!! BTW......it has not! -

MrBrooks replied to superman814's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
Who told you that you will have 500 on each??? When multiple resitors(voice coils) are parallel across a single source(1 channel),all resistors will see the same input. At 1ohm all 3 subs will see 2400w not divide and share. -
I've been playing with a port calculator and I find that 30 1/8"x3/4"(which just happens to be my wall thickness) holes will tune the box to a nice 30.5Hz. Now, is there any reason for NOT doing this??? Thought I might arrange them in the shape of an SSA logo for effect.

any disadvantages to multiple small ports?
MrBrooks replied to MrBrooks's topic in SPL & SQ / Fabrication
I thought it may pose a problem of some kind. Just thought if it work the "cool factor" would be off the chart. I have seen boxes with multiple circular saw blade width slashes in them that sounded awesome. Thought this shouldn't be far off that. -
Upon further research and playing with the calculator Duran linked me too. Looks like a slotted box is doable. 1"x8"x9.5 will put me to a good 33Hz. Thanks for all the info
-
I have always been a sealed box guy,so I have NO idea how to tune a box. That being said, how much port do I need in a 1.25ft box with DCON 10????? Will be for daily use playing mostly rock/metal. I was thinking 40-45hz maybe? Please correct me if I'm thinking wrong.
-
Thnx Duran. That calculator helps a lot. Looks like 3" x 12.69" will put me at 32hz. Had been thinking round port for simplicity. Unless you all don't recommend a round port. Wanna keep box kinda flat and tall. To fit in the corner of cargo area where a jump seat once was.
-
24-28" square or cubic???
-
I should hope so.lol. That is what I have for mid/tweets in the factory 3way comps. The midbase speakers are actually in decent shape.
-
I have seen several good comments about their amps. My question is, are their 6.5" comps as good as their amps?? Pricing looks VERY inviting. On both the comps and their 4 channel.
-
Any idea when the new ones are due?? I'm in no real hurry.
