    Saving Money: LED Lighting In-Home

No they don't ... I've been running flourescent bulbs for over a year and they don't flicker at all (except the conventional flourescent tube lights in the kitchen). You can get a 6 pack of 13 watt bulbs (a little brighter than a 60W incandescent) for $11 CAD here, so less than $2 a bulb, they last 5-10x longer, they don't get very hot (you can grab them even after they've been on for a few hours), and my energy bill has gone down about $3/two months using 9 of them. It doesn't sound like a whole lot, but I only live in a 1 bedroom apartment and electricity is the 3rd lowest in North America where I live (a little over 5 cents per kilowatt-hour) ... Lumens/Watt Incandescent = 12-15 lumens/watt (60 watt bulb = 720-900 lumens) Fluorescent = 60-75 lumens/watt (My 13 watters are 950 lumens or 73 lumens/watt) LED = 45-50 lumens/watt (Need at least 14.5 watts worth of LEDs to compare to a dim 60 watt Incandescent) Also, LEDs have much narrower beam than Fluorescent and Incandescenet bulbs, so they do a poorer job at lighting up an entire room (they're great for flashlights and brake lights, but not so great for ambient lighting). Also, I don't know who has all their lights on for 8 hours a day, but if you do, you can save a lot of money by turning them off I have my living room light on for about 3-5 hours a day in the summer and about 8-10 hours a day in the winter and that's my most used light. The bathroom lights are on maybe 2-4 hours a day (depending on shower length and bowel movements). Kitchen lights maybe 1-2 hours a day. The rest are used periodically; less than an hour a day average. If you really want to save on electricity, you should look at insulation, IMO. Heaters and air conditioners suck up a whole lot of juice and anything you can do to reduce the amount they have to work will save you a bundle. Also, water heaters suck up a lot of juice (insulating them can save quite a few $$$). Another biggie would be washer/dryer; use cold water to wash if possible and only do full loads. I will usually hang up a shirt/pants if it's not dirty after the day and use it again in a few days. This cuts down on the frequency which you have to do laundry. Dishwashers also use a considerable amount of energy (again, wait for a full load).

    too much money

It weighs 3042 lbs according to Porsche's website ...
  5. DVD+Rs are cheaper than CD-Rs ...
  6. It's not quite that simple ... You'll probably have to convert the media to .mpeg2 format (depending on what DVD player you have).

Rent day ... My landlord's favourite day of the month ... Each tenant pays $450-$600 per month (say $500 average) ... 48 tenants in the building ... 48*500 = $24,000/month I need to buy some property and get some tenants to make me rich ...

    Welcome to the IHoP

And it gets better ... I had to drive her to the doctor yesterday afternoon because she had a bladder infection. So we waited in the waiting room until we went into the doctor and, when she went in, I went to move the car in front. I was gone for maybe 3 minutes and I come back and sit down. and wait ... and wait ... and wait ... 50 minutes pass, so I phone my GF because I'm already about 30 minutes late picking her up and the guy working there tells me she already left with some hot blonde chick that works there. I ask, "Was it Tracy ?" and he responds with a yeah. So, basically, I just sat in a waiting room full of sick people for 50 minutes with a chitty immune system waiting for no one because she left in the 3 minutes I was moving the car ... Who the fudge just leaves ? So I drive around looking for them and looking for them. Go home and see they're not there and there are no messages. So I phone Subway and the guy who I talked to before is like, "Oh yeah, they're still here." So I go pick them up and get yelled at on the car ride home. "I'm late at Boston Pizza now. I'm going to lose my pucking job because of you." Blah Blah Blah Blah ... Because it's my fault she left. Of course, my GF agrees with her and is pissed off because I ended up being over an hour late picking her up, too. We ended up arguing for like 4 hours after that. Later that night, the two leeches were fighting from like 9:30 when she got home until about 1 am. Woke up this morning and found my cat tearing apart what I thought was a piece of paper. Yell at the cat and pick it up and, nope, it's not a piece of paper; it's part of a cigarette liner used for a flap of coke. So my cat's all high and bouncing off the walls, breaking into cars, and chit all morning. She's all pissed off because she knew he was on something last night because he was acting really weird and crazy. So she goes on this big rant until we get interupted by a phone call. It's her friend calling her to tell her that she saw one of her BF's making out with another chick at the bar last night. Then she starts crying and stuff, I console her. Then she's like, "Oh chit. Can you get a bladder infection from an STD ?" I, of course, say the wrong thing (the truth), "I think you can from chlamydia." So then she starts freaking out thinking she has an STD and stuff and then realizes it's 10:50 and she has to work at 11. She's like, "Can you walk me to work ? I really need someone to talk to." I do it because I'm not an ass, although I should be. So I listen to her vent all the way to work. We get there and then it hits me, "Oh chit, it's Friday ... She has the day off." She walks in and my GF immediately says, "Why are you here ?" "Uh, I work here." "Yeah, but it's your day off." "Really ?" "Yeah." "Well, now I feel even more like a retard." Then she starts crying to my GF about how one of her BFs is cheating on her and that she thinks she has an STD and stuff. Meanwhile, I'm thinking, "fudge ... I'm going to have to listen to this all day." After we left Subway, I asked her if she wanted to go to the clinic to get tested and she tells me she can't because she's on her period. So I'm stuck with an extremely emotional girl who just got cheated on, who is on her period, who is freaking out because she may have an STD, and who currently has a bladder infection, headache, and a bad cold, so is really cranky. My day is looking up ... Actually, the day wasn't that bad. After she cried for another hour, we went and hung out, drove around, talked, etc. It was actually fun after the crying. Too bad it was only like 2 hours before she had to go to work and now I have to go pick up my GF, who just phoned and said she had a really stressful day. Which means I'm going to have to listen while she vents. Then the guy (cokehead) gets home around 6 and he's really not living here because I don't want cokeheads here period, let alone living here. And, of course, I'm probably going to get my ass kicked. So, if you guys don't here from me for a while, I'm probably in the hospital or dead because of that ... Wish me luck ...

I haven't invested more than $100 into car audio in the last 3 years ... HT is a much better investment ... and you don't need to worry nearly as much about it getting stolen ...

    Welcome to the IHoP

I've tried so many times ... it's impossible ... except when I was first going out w/ my GF and was spending pretty much every minute going out and doing stuff with her ... Get a new GF and you'll be able to quit ...
  12. VG30DETT - Not quite in the same league as the other two Nissan engines, but was the top Nissan engine in North America for years. VQ30DE/VQ35DE - has essentially carried the entire Nissan line-up for the last decade. Available in everything from luxury cars, sports cars, trucks, SUVs, minivans, and even commuter cars. Versatile, powerful, technologically advanced and, even after 12 years, still one of the best engines in its class. RB26DETT - Top Dog in Nissan's "Racing Breed" engine series. Primary reason why the Skyline is so famous. Capable of extreme power and was, in a large part, responsible for Nissan dominating the JGTC through the 90s. Porsche's Flat 6s - Most successful engine in the world of racing. Honda C30/C32 - 270 horsepower out of a 3 liter N/A V6 in 1990 was a huge accomplishment. Race bred engine designed for practicality and reliability. 20 mpg ain't too shabby for a supercar, either. Unfortunately, there were very few power increases over the last 15 years and it's now considered to be quite weak. Audi FSI 3.2 liter V6 - First gasoline engine to offer direct fuel injection in large numbers. Not only that, but available in performance cars, too. Toyota 2JZ-GTE - Huge power potential. BMW's I6s - If anyone has mastered the inline 6, it's BMW. Pretty much every one of them is a treasure.
  13. Nissan VG30DETT, VQ35DE, & RB26DETT Porsche's Boxer 6s Honda's 3.5 liter V6s Audi FSI 3.2 liter V6 Toyota 2JZ-GTE BMW's I6s GM 3800 Are all on my short list of great 6s ... I don't really think it's any contest though as Porsche's Flat 6s have absolutely dominated the world of racing for the past 40 years.

    Welcome to the IHoP

I really ... really ... really hate people ... I went to bed at 8:45 last night because I was so sick and I wake up at 11 this morning to the entire kitchen in shambles, tobacco all over the floor, beds not made, make up all over the bathroom, toilet seat up, water all over the bathroom floor, TV and receiver on, balcony door wide open, etc. They both get paid today and I'm betting we don't see any money. My GF said they don't have to pay us ... Then my mom calls me and says I have to come over to fix her computer because she downloaded another DVD burning program and now none of her DVD burning programs work. She downloaded it because someone on the internet told her to try it. I said that I couldn't do it right now because I had to clean up, do 2 enclosure designs, go to class, pick up my GF's cheque, cash it, etc. and that I could do it later this afternoon. She starts crying and playing this huge guilt trip on me about how she always drops everything (nothing) for me every time I need something (never) and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. So I waste all my time on the phone listening to her guilt-trip me until I had to go to class. I ended up having to hang up on her because she wouldn't let me off the phone. As soon as I get off the phone, my buddy calls me and asks me if he could drop off his computer so I could fix it, so I say sure and ask him if he can give me a ride to Subway so I could pick up my GF's cheque and then to school and he says sure. So I wait for him ... and wait ... and wait ... finally gets here about 30 minutes later. Now I'm really late for school. Pick up my GF's paycheque and get to school about 45 minutes late. Turns out we had a pop quiz (yay for missed marks). I also forgot my textbook, so I had to read off the book of the gay guy who sits next to me. Yay. Walk over to the other Subway to go pick up the car from my GF and to get chewed out when she asked me if I cleaned up today. Also got chewed out because I was apparently supposed to pick up this other girl's cheque, too. Argue with her at work for a bit and she says, "You don't pay to live there either." I didn't even bother arguing. She's so pucking delusional it's not even funny. How can anyone think they can afford $485 in rent per month, $160 in insurance + gas per month, $5-$10 in Starbucks everyday, $200+ in Care Bear merchandise per paycheque a month, $80 in cable/internet per month, food, make-up, etc. etc. etc. etc. and have $400 in savings when working PART TIME for MINIMUM WAGE by herself ? She just doesn't realize how much money I make because it all goes into her PayPal account and her bank account. I do like 3-4 designs a day, which is $30-$40/day ... 30 days in a month = $900+ ... so a little less than what she makes (she makes about $1200-$1300/month) ... plus I do accounting from home, too. To say that I don't pay to live their is just ridiculous. Anyways, go cash her cheque and go to Subway to pick up the other girl's cheque. Of course they won't give it to me because she never phoned them to say I was coming to pick her up. They refuse to phone her, so I just leave. Come home, go online to check who paid last night and send out 3 designs. I'm getting so many PMs and e-mails from people because I'm so backlogged because I have to clean up and deal with all this chit. I can't even work in peace because they're always watching movies, listening to music loud, or sleeping on the couch (which is where the computer is). I see that my mom has left 10 messages on my machine, all guilt trips. I still have to fix my buddy's computer tonight and I haven't even looked at it. I have dinner at my GF's mom's house tonight and we'll probably be there until 8 or so. And right now, I have to go pick up my GF so, when she comes home, she can yell at me because I still haven't cleaned up. My life pucking rocks ...

    Help in a Begginer system

Not really much you can do w/ $130 ... If you REALLY need to do something, I'd say upgrading your speakers has the most potential for making a difference. Personally, I would save up my money until I had at least a few hundred to put into it. Does your stock HU have pre-outs ?
  17. Well, I download at 600+ KB/s and my connection is only 5 Mbps ... 300 KB/s is well below the potential of a ~14 Mbps connection ...
  18. You need a better way of downloading so you can use that 13 Mbps connection to its full potential ...

The older I get, the more I realize that: 1) People suck. 2) I don't get the appreciation or respect I feel I deserve. 3) I've turned into an angry, jaded arseho because of it. 4) I need a therapist before I snap. 5) I'll vent to a therapist, fix all my problems, and be happy again. 6) I'll start helping people again. 7) The cycle will start over again because people suck. This is like my 4th or 5th time going through the cycle now ... Right now I'm at stage 3 ...

  21. I measured my GF's CDA-7893's pre-out voltage this morning ... Here are the results. Notes: My multimeter only does AC voltage to 1 decimal point. I only did the subwoofer pre-out, which is rated @ 4 volts. I measured at the end of a 17 foot RCA cable.
