From UPS your sub will be to you on Tuesday. We do not work on the weekend and you had placed an order while I was out of town. While the sub was built as far as it could be, they did not have the ability to machine anymore of the BP aluminum compression plugs. That portion of things had to wait until I returned and could do it on Monday. It looks as through your sub shipped the following Tuesday. Thanks, Scott

    FI BL D4?

This is the reason why I ditched the D4 and went with the D1s in the proto process. Most amps today are 1 or 2 Ohm stable. A pair of D1s will do a 1 Ohm load or 4 Ohm load... a D4 will do a 4 Ohm or 16 Ohm load... so you can see how you get the same single 4 Ohm load and a more common 1 Ohm load for them D1 coils vs the D4. As mentioned above, the Re of 1.4 or .7 is only true at DC... not reactively. Your amp will never see the DCR load, but something much higher. Thanks, Scott

Sent an email to the above address. Cant find anything coming in to either Sales or Scott from it though. I deleted the spam folder yesterday and all that was in it as we have been getting flooded with cr@p lately... so if it was in there... Ill never know. Thanks, Scott

    btl full loaded 15 displacement

Fully loaded is 1" deeper than above with the extra magnet and I believe dispacement goes up to .24 cuft.

Suspension is fairly tough with 3 softer spiders. All around solid sub for daily driving with a good combination of SQ and output ability. Thanks, Scott

Lol... yeah I figured as much considering I was going over everything with Shawn about an hour before that. Not too many people out there with an SRT8 asking the same question

Ill get Havoc specs up tonight here then... Will (8) 10" Arsenals work in the back of a Jeep SRT8? Yep. Not a ton of left over room with 8 cuft net for the subs and a decent port tuned to 30Hz, but... itll be the fastest pounding Jeep around for sure.

    Home Theater upgrade

1060W into what Ohm load? (Assuming 4 Ohms). 4 15s sealed would do wonders, but it really isnt much power for all of them... and we dont have an Assassin 15. A single Havoc 18 or a pair of Arsenal 15s would make the best use of the power. Thanks, Scott

Not new cones really... just a new material for the cone body. Its a different formula that is a little lighter and a good amount more rigid than the current stuff (which is damn stiff as it is). Havoc12 D2 is right at 7" deep. Ive got one of the protos in 1.8 cuft tuned to 32Hz and it works really well in that. The 12 works in smaller ported enclosures. Ill see if I can get some specs up tonight for the Havoc line (seems more interest in them so far from the net crowd). Thanks, Scott

    some questions

At that point if you can get the space, then a standard 2 magnet BTL with only the pole chamfer would work well. No need to spend the extra $$$ without having more power... and the needed electrical upgrades to support it as well. Thanks, Scott

    BL 10" in 2.15 cuft

Just run it as is and make sure that it doesnt go into over excursion in the larger enclosure. All you are really doing is loosing some mechanical restoring control of the smaller enclosure... gaining some efficiency and probably depth. Thanks, Scott
  15. My ears are tingling already... Ive got plugs and ear muffs waiting (man Im a wimp with this bass stuff...lol)

I built those few 18s towards the end of the run of original Havocs. Solid subs, but they are geared a little different than the new ones. I hope they dont disappoint, but they sound better to me. I have yet to try them with a real SPL setup though (since they arent designed for it) Different coil, stronger motor, more overall linearity, new tooled curvilinear cone (new cone compound that will make its way into all of my drivers too) with full dustcap. And what I have considered for many years the look of understated elegance (with a healthy splash of "kick to the b@lls") Those that have tried them have been very impressed so far (both friend and dealer alike). Thanks, Scott

    box design for 15" Q

Looks fine to me. When I have had a slant port like that, I have always just averaged the top and bottom lengths for the "correct" length. Seems to work fine when the ratio between the two isnt very different. Thanks, Scott

I was surprised too... but its in the pdf for the amp on JLs site.

    FI Q Recone

That could be a good portion of the problem as well. If the tuning is not right and the subsonic was set to 25 (although really 21 Hz) it would be unloading the driver causing FAR too much movement below tuning. With the new one, set it closer to 30 Hz and see how it fairs. Id say 95% of your issues will resolve themselves with that. Thanks, Scott

    FI Q Recone

Having output polarity reversed is fine... it only is relative to your seating position and the bass integration there. If bass sounds thin, switch it back to 180. This doesnt factor into the equation. Subsonic filter definitely does. This is what they call the infrasonic filter. Looking at JLs site, they have a listing of settings on the amp vs actual numbers. At "25" it is actually cornered at 21Hz. At "30" it is actually at 30 Hz. Then at "40" it is actually at 47 Hz. You can see the nonlinearity between the printed numbers and actual frequencies. I cant seem to find reference to your enclosure... what are you using? I cant tell you about your gain settings as I dont know what the deck does... Id need to measure things to see, or better yet set them up with an o-scope. But I have the feeling that things simply moved WAY too far for their own good. The coil discoloration could come into play from several things (all of which leading to heat buildup)... but Ill reserve some comments on how until I know what enclosure its in (Im sure you have said but I am often blind ) Thanks, Scott

    whats the deal?

Scott, Sub is finished and should be packed and go out tomorrow via UPS ground. We recieved the order on the 29th at 4:10pm which pushed the order to the next business day (Monday the 2nd). With the holiday week and me being out of town, we are running a couple of days behind. You should have received an email from UPS (Quantum view) with your tracking info. It often gets caught in the spam filter or simply overlooked. I have re-emailed the tracker to you with the email address provided with your order. Please let me know if I can help with anything else. Thanks, Scott

Scott MIA from 6/30 to 7/08

Ill be out of the loop to a certian extent during 06/30 - 07/08. We are setting up a new warehouse for Ascendant, getting production ready, holiday, and various other Fi shop upgrades during this period. We will still have staff at Fi building subs, but there will probably be an extra 2-3 days build time during this period. Most likely Sales@ and Scott@ emails will not be answered and will have an autoreply. Hate to do it... but Ill get back to them on 07/09. If it is an emergency, please post it to the forum or email [email protected] or [email protected] Thanks for your understanding and patience. Scott

Scott MIA from 6/30 to 7/08

Trying to get through all the emails as fast as I can. Came back to a little over 600 of them...lol Always a delay when you have that many, not too mention the responses from all those and so on... normally takes a week or two before things get back to "normal". Sorry for the delay.

Ratings on everything were higher before. When going back through and redesigning things I rated them this time at what I felt comfortable with. Even the Assassins rating went down some although the coil is a decent amount beefier than the last version. I like the ratings to reflect an all around usage and not have issues even with somethings being incorrect with the setup. I have done plenty of OEM where comapnies have rated things far beyond what I would have... then had to deal with the resulting problems of them rating things so high. I hate returns, plain and simple. I havent had any marketing issues in rating past products or Fis current lineup where I have either... as it seems most people ignore them anyway and run what they want or feel they can get away with Nope, no use of splitgap on the subs. As mentioned above, we use split coil on the mids. Similar results overall. Carbon fiber dustcaps were cool, but sort of a PITA considering the attachment and expense. Not out of the question for the future, but not in the plans right now. How do they compare to the Fi lineup? There is very little stepping on of toes between the two companies, even considering the drastically different markets that both companies are geared towards. Thanks, Scott
