    Encosure Question

Yes, smaller helps mechanically, but at the expense of efficiency near tuning. How much? Well it depends... If you are really hard on stuff and beat up on it lots, smaller is better. As with all ported enclosures, pay plenty of attention to the subsonic filter settings vs tuning. Thanks, Scott

Help please with picking new subs

Definitely has the space for a pair of 15s. We have a few people running that combo and no one has blown anything at all... With a 40.1 per sub, you definitely need to have things set up correctly. Much easier to do some damage by an improper filter setting...

    Box for 2 18" Btl's

Looks like you are trying to wall off behind the seats? Plenty of space if thats the case. Will you be riding around with the back seats down most of the time? Thanks, Scott

    Email delays..

Getting back up on emails with the addition of a new office manager... allows me more time to hop on the forum as well. Thanks, Scott

new box time need some advice

We normally recommend 1.8-2.5 cuft for the BTLs and 33 Hz for a deep daily tuning. You can tune higher for increased output, but at the expense of some of the bottom end. Given that the amp is supposed to do 2400W (not sure if thats true or not) Id stick to middle of the road at 2.2 cuft after port and driver and tune to 33Hz. Make sure you subsonic filter is set at 30Hz to keep things from going crazy when the port unloads below tuning. Thanks, Scott

    FI Q10 Questions

Heard nothing but positive comments on the enclosures so far. Quite a few using the SSDs and Qs in them with excellent results. While the enclosure is a little on the large side for most customers tastes, I do prefer a lower qts alignment and think it would sound fine. Thanks, Scott

    btl question

Marked the box incorrectly. I checked the machine list for the parts and they are daily. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks, Scott Oh, and with a new office manager and phone system going in I will be able to spend more time here again

    How much

I took them down for being out of magnets and we are just waitng for clearance before we get them in... normally 3 days for things, but this time its taking longer. I have had more than half of people want to "preorder" them anyway although Im against taking $$$ for things we cant build. Ill wait until the end of the day to see if they clear and then post asking if people would want me to pop it back up if they dont so they could purchase them now... Thanks, Scott

    Please Help

2 8s is a little less cone area than 1 12". So no where near what you are thinking... 4 8s is right at 1 15". So yes, it should be fairly loud... but I highly doubt 140 with a 27 Hz tuning. Tune higher with the 8s for more output and probably happier drivers overall mechanically. Thanks, Scott

    Can FI build this?

Yes and no... we dont do 8s, but we have parts as we do OEM as well as the AA drivers with them. But, IBs need to have a decent amount of excursion and linearity to make up for their lack of enclosure reinforcement. 8s really dont meet the need for most applications. I have done IBs in the past (in similar applications) where I make a baffle that necks down from the stock 6X9, 8", 10"... to a 12" size from MDF and fiberglass (fleece, whatever). Gets you more output from the same stock location. Then... we definitely can do an IB driver and will be adding some to the site in the next week or so (IB option to the SSDs as well as an IB specific new line). Thanks, Scott

What happen to the BL's ?

BLs dont like sealed... Qs for sealed. With a pair of them off of a SAZ1500, the standard Q12s would work really well. Thanks, Scott

    SSD12 LPF setting

Odd with the VOM and it not really changing anything... it definitely should. Have it set to AC? Crossover settings/needs are really dependant on the front stage (as mentioned above). If you have a really strong midbass section you can always drop the frequency to blend better. Most people dont have a solid midbass and deal with 80Hz. Not too bad or easily located... but lower is better if you can. Thanks, Scott
  13. Id go the least expensive route first as you can simply try and add a 4th 4" port... looks like itll hop the tuning up 4-5 Hz and gain you some output... at the expense of the bottom end (which you had mentioned isnt a major issue). Even adding the extra port it still allows you to block it off and run the original setup/tuning as well... BTL 18 would work well in that space and have plenty of extra headroom as far as durability goes... but costs quite a bit more than a 4" aeroport kit does. Thanks, Scott

    Chaos Specs

We have had quite a few AA dealers that are JL authorized say the same thing. They are moving more and more of the Havocs than the JLs as they are just as clean, deeper, and handle more power... for less money. The look doesnt hurt things when selling them either. Thanks, Scott Oh, and new AA site in the works to make the international distributors and US home look more uniform. Itll have the Chaos and Mayhem specs on it as well as some sneak pics of things to come for 2009

BOX DESIGN for AA HAVOC 18

6.2 at 32Hz will work well. I prefer 8 at 28 for a really bottom heavy setup

    Sub set up

Whatever size you feel will fit and or get you to your output goals... I like a pair of ported Havoc 12s for most trunk or hatch cars. Works well. But many can fit a pair of 15s too... 15s will have more output, but at the expense of space. Quality is more dependant on setup than the size of the Havocs... Thanks, Scott

    ascendant audio soft parts

Sorry I havent been around on the forums much in the past couple of weeks... Nick has let me know about this one and I believe it was taken care of price wise yesterday. I am real easy on what is a "defect" and in looking at the pics wouldnt call this a defect by any means. I am concerned more with the setup and getting this going perfect this next time to avoid anything like that. Im sorry, but I dont think I saw the amp/power and complete set up details in any of the previous posts so if you could post them here Id appreciate it. My take is that it looks like things have gone into overexcursion. Knowing those surrounds and where they would break in a bad situation, thats a classic example of the failure mode. The spiders and surrounds limit at about the same time and if you look at the back side off the spider, youll see a double glue joint that is similar to what we use on the BTLs. We definitely overbuild the little 8s as we dont want them back for any reason Please let me know that you have been taken care of price wise and if there is anything else I might be able to help with. Thanks, Scott

    AA Havoc vs. Fi BL

I can be rather impartial about this one Id probably go the Havoc route unless your goals have changed. Thanks, Scott

    Sub set up

A pair of Havocs would work well with that amp. What exactly are you going for? Thanks, Scott
  21. Sorry to say that there will be email and "some" order delays from today through Monday 10-16 due to several of the Fi staff attending the 3 dB Drag world finals shows through the US. We will have 2 people on staff running some production but the balance of the shop will be "closed" through then. We will resume normal production and emails on Tuesday and get things back up to speed and make sure that all orders are filled ASAP. Sorry for the delays, but we will try to keep you all posted on the shows as well. Thanks, Scott

    Ordering new BTL???

hebivore... Had international distributor orders eat up all the Q magnets (or a good portion of them) and we are a couple weeks out on more. I pulled the Qs down as I dont want to take orders or money for products that we cant ship in a timely manner. They will be back up in a couple of weeks when we get a container of magnets in. Thanks, Scott Joseph M, UPS initial tracking info is based off of the processing date and not the actual pick up date. The first 45 or so orders for the BTLs from last week took a little longer than the normal 3-5 business days. All were finished up as of today and will be packed and shipped tomorrow. The tracker will show the rescheduled delivery date based off of the actual pick up date late late tomorrow night. Thanks, Scott

Just got my Fi Q 18 and wanted to say thanks to Fi

Solid looking box. Please keep us posted as to how it sounds long term. Things will break in some and the sound will change a little, although it will take some time with a zx750 on it. Thanks, Scott
