Lol... while comical references abound for that, I wont be the one that starts them There is no reason why this cant be used for SQ applications at all. Not so much for the extreme motor force you can achieve, but simply to reduce the rear motor footprint in the airflow path. Or that it allows a similar set of soft parts to be used in a similar diameter motor, but now with heavy copper sleeving on the pole where that would have previously reduced motor force to an undersireable limit. It can be used in extreme underhung designs as well. No shortage of SQ uses as what SG does has nothing to do with the quality of sound, just a different way of achieving the desired motor force.

No, although some solenoids have even higher values than that as they can run extreme tolerances and much better cooling. No, we use them for acoustics and noise control applications in very extreme industrial environments. About the most extreme application we have done was for a company that did some cut backs in the sonic fatigue dept and they no longer could run their 10k Gallon tank and the air valve system to test. So we came up with something smaller to test scaled parts for them.

AHAHAHA... love that. Google does all of my engineering No reason not to have a 22" version of it. I have the "6 spoke" 22" designed, but think for sake of tooling cost (considering the 22" in this style basket will never be as big a seller as the 18 or 15) we will simply go with the original design I had for that series. Something I havent quite seen before, but we should have a cast version to play with in the next two weeks. We will decide from there if it will be worth the tooling cost. Actually, no there is no secondary suspension to avoid coil rock in the pure SPL subs. So... I simply embraced it and did something else about it. Something that for SPL is all benefit. Problem with some things we do is that I dont want to give away the farm... or at least feel that if someone wants to figure out what is done, at least buy one...lol. We have spent lots of time testing and trying different things and have to figure if its worth mentioning exactly what is done and others picking up on it to use as well, vs not mentioning things and let them slowly pick up on it and then use it. We could have made significantly more motor force on the SMD than we have, but it simply isnt needed in a daily driver. We are currently testing the limits on just how much motor force is useful for SPL applications as well. We have some exceedingly high Gauss densities in SG2 and SG3 that arent seeing realistic gains any longer in SPL. It seems we are fairly well up into the point of diminishing returns with respect to motor force. Mentioning Gauss volumes really doesnt have any benefit to the consumer as its not a normal value, and Im sure a great many manufacturers dont use it either. We are currently testing with BL^2/Re figures of over 2800 which are almost a good order of magnitude better than most big daily subs. And that is by no means the limit of things either. No vent on the poles for the SPL versions. Although the SMD could have a 2" vent and still not loose force, it just takes too long to bore out a 2" hole in a 4" core that is almost 8" long. We cant find 4"X2" tube in the correct material in the US. Otherwise we would use that and save the material and weight. Drilling a 1.5" hole (biggest bit I have to run that deep on the 32" swing lathe) then using a boring bar to clean it out to 2" is just a waste of machine time. Customer just gets to lift an extra 3lbs of steel

Steve will have his final protos in about 1 month. We will let him test test and more test to make sure they hold up well to what he has in store for him (vs previous subs he knows) and then roll into production. Realistically inside of 2 months if Steve approves things within a 2 week or so test time. SMDs will differ from these with basket and soft parts as well. This is not the SMD but a pic to show how SG1 motors are setup. Another company utilizing SG motors will be putting up info on their site and Im sure competitor based forums shortly as well. They are currently testing the SG1 motors in their SPL applications. Onebadmonte... how you clicking off pics like that from our "testfacility"...lol

It seems I have received quite a few emails since yesterday regarding the size of the motor and why things need to be so big... This motor uses magnets smaller than the current Mayhem motor (Which are 8.66") yet has more motor force than the original design for the motor utilizing a double stack of 11.25" magnets. We can make can make it out of neo (as was the motor design for an industrial client that was the first to use this topology from us). But, dealers have shown that larger sells and that is the specific market we are working with. SupergaussIII really shrinks things up and depending on how well this version is received by AA customers as well as one of our OE clients that is utilizing it for an SPL only sub, we may bring that to market as well. For our original client running SGI after their agreement was up and we moved them into SGII and SGIII they didnt feel the need to pay for an exclusivity contract as they realized their niche market simply wasnt going to copy the application (primarily because their competitors have no access to the products and installation in the first place).

Definitely will run the 6 spoke basket for the SMD. We didnt have a former quite tall enough at the time the pic was taken to fit right so we had the 12 spoke on there. On Friday we received samples in of the extended former coils that will fit for the SMD. This topology actually nets us about 15% more motor force than the last design utilizing the 11.25" magnets (and the magnets used for this version are about 3" in diameter smaller). And that is no where near pushing what we can get through a 4" core... just that for the SMD we dont need the ultimate in motor force as it is designed as a tough daily driver, not an SPL sub.

Absolutely depends on the size of the coil, coil type, suspension and other parts. From $45-130 plus shipping. Big SPL monsters with expensive flatwind coils and lots of suspension and integrated leads... up to $130. Smaller motored subs with smaller coils and lighter duty parts start at $45. Not worth our time to do anything less expensive than that when you factorlabor costs for a kit vs what a skilled tech could be building.
-
Im familiar with the basket, but not those motors. What size coils are in them? MA has used some US standard sized coils in the past, so the possibility is there, but not sure. Best bet would be to send one in for measurements and for us to fit parts. As it isnt something we have reconed before (or at least I dont have notes on one) we wont charge to ship the sub back... just for the kit in it .

Is fi audio going to make a new more power full subwoofer that is chea
Fi Car Audio replied to basslover's topic in Fi Products
While we can make subs for "daily" that take that sort of power (pulling from industrial tech we have) there is such a small market for items like that making it simply impossible to be profitable from it. Not too mention it would mean that we release tech that simply has more value in military and industrial applications than it ever will in car audio. No reason to put all the cards down on the table at this point... especially considering we are dropping the Supergauss tech in a new AA sub as well as in another car audio OEM clients products. But... still holding onto SupergaussII and SupergaussIII for a while longer Thanks, Scott -
Kits for that sub are now up on the "other recone" portion of the site. We played it safe in not using the original company names and series designations for the recones (but its easy enough to figure out). We will be adding quite a few more kits when we have time to code things up.

How I can buy production FI? Who is the dealer in the USA?
Fi Car Audio replied to Dinamik73's topic in General Fi
It is difficult to gauge what day things will arrive on as all subs are built in a 3-7 business day (M-F) window and then adding UPS ground ship time to that. Making an assumption from the OPs post, are you coming to the states and want a driver delivered to you during that time period? -
While we figured to have the sub ready to go by the end of Feb, we have ran into a couple of tooling and parts delays with the sub. Currently we are waiting for the latest material sample for the spider as well as a new lead with a completely different core and wrapping technique... not to mention that it appears that the spider spacing ring we tooled is MIA due to the injection molding company we are using in China seems to have gone under. This has put us in a bind for several other parts that we get through them as well and we are having some help in China in tracking down the tooling for these parts (shot in the dark). Ill keep the forum posted as to any updates on the sub and when we will get them rolling out the doors (literally as we are setting up a small roller line specific to these subs as they are a PITA to lift and move around) Thanks, Scott

I will check tomorrow on yours. As it sits right now all orders placed during the back order period will be shipped no later than tomorrow (to the best of my knowledge). We have been working double shifts and on Saturday to get things done. We have 52 subs from after Fridays last UPS pickup and work done on Sat that will ship plus the last 40 or so that will be finished tomorrow. UPS is a PITA in that they put a date on the order based off of processing and not the actual pick up. We can do nothing about it and simply cant/wont change the way we process orders to try and do it on the day that it ships. We work right up to the last second in getting subs out for the last UPS and there is no way of knowing if it will make it until its on the truck for the day. Doing them ahead of time allows for several workers to check the order, tickets, and build list along the way to ensure that all are correct. Rushing tickets at the last minute will only result in errors in shipping... and I surely dont like explaining why your sub is shipped to the wrong address or has the wrong options on it. Nor do I like paying double shipping to get the 70+ pound package back and to the right info. Thanks, Scott

Let me know your email address and Ill forward you some info Thanks, Scott

Should work fine. Smaller just pushes the enclosures resonance up a little higher. With 1.8 cuft tuned to 33Hz, it will push the peak up closer to 39Hz. In car with the vehicles transfer function it will still perform great down to 30Hz (where you should have the subsonic set). If you went up to 2.2 cuft your same tuning, it would be at about 26Hz for the peak. Slightly higher (about .5 dB) efficiency as well. All in all it should perform fine for a solid daily driving setup. Thanks, Scott

Advantage is extra cooling and mechanical durability. Disadvantage, slight loss in SQ vs standard sub. For those that need the extra power handling, the change in SQ in a ported application is really negligible. For SQ purists, standard version and power handling should be more than enough. If amp makes power into 2 Ohm mono... you would need a Dual 1 Ohm coil. Wired in series it will yield the proper single 2 Ohm load for the amp. Thanks, Scott

Made the coil change for you and sent an email yesterday. We have you covered Thanks, Scott

You can send it to: Fi Car Audio Attn: Repair 5480 Cameron St #108 Las Vegas NV 89118 Please be sure to include a sheet of paper with your name, address, phone, and email on it with the sub. We will contact you with the total including return shipping. Normally takes 3-7 business days for recones. Payments can be made before it ships back (if paypal or credit/debit card). If by check or money order, payment needs to be in advance for clearance and you can let us know your zip code so we can get you the exact quote. Thanks, Scott

OK... given that this is our 4000th topic (after the crash of 2008...lol), I felt it would be a good time to introduce some of our new giveaways and contests. We will edit this post with our daily schedule for free promo items with orders (like T-Shirt Tuesdays... first dozen sub orders get free t-shirts...) We will also announce weekly contests for products as well. Adding the new apparel warehouse, we are greatly expanding POP items and our promo capabilities. And as usual... we would like to pass it along to our customers. Updates tomorrow... Thanks, Scott

As Nick mentioned... 2 cuft after driver with the copper coils works well. Slightly larger enclosures are needed with the standard coils... 2.5-3 depending on the power you have. thanks, Scott

Recone kit i orderd, no confirmation, no shipment tracking, no email r
Fi Car Audio replied to Earsplitter's topic in General Fi
We received payment and order at 4:34 PM on Friday. We did not process the order until Tuesday (as Monday was a Holiday). An email was sent to you from UPS on Tuesday with the tracking information for the recone. This email was sent to the paypal email address provided. I will have them reforward it to the same address for you. It normally takes 3-7 business days for us to assemble a recone kit. Considering that it was after 4:30 on Friday, and Monday is a holiday, the fact that the kit will be shipping out today is fairly quick. Please let me know if I can help with anything else. Thanks, Scott -
Just tried calling... Ill call tomorrow as well. Thanks, Scott

Yes Always a risk with that one and its why we dont do it as policy. Shipped from my personal account and it shouldnt be an issue.

Depending on the options you have selected, we recommend from 1000-2000W. As for what exact amp... thats more personal preference than anything.
