GatorDrag '06- April 8-9, Jennings, LA USACI 2x
02BlackOnBlackSS posted a topic in News, Announcements, and Lobby
Hey guys, Just letting yall know about the 3rd annual car show and soundoff, GatorDrag 2006. Last year it was pretty huge and we had a good time all day and night. They had a lot of cars at the show, and probably around 20 competing. This year it will probably be bigger. The website is www.gatordrag.comwww.gatordrag.com . Team S.P.E.A.D. from Baton Rouge will be there along with a few others. Try to make it out there because there is usually a lot of awesome cars to see. -
350 worked fine for me. No need for more unless you have it on tap.... 8s came in today. Thanks Mike! They look very sweet. Now I can fix my sig

And, I have a pair en route to my apt right now.

It was bridged at 4 ohms, so about 700 watts total.

I have no problems with my 6.5v preouts.

When you conduct this same experiment in a scientifically controlled setting, with a scientifically valid experiment, let me know The differences you heard are likely due to either power or gain differences. That simple. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What about signal processing issues inside the amp itself? My orion amp put out more power than this one, but it didn't sound as good. It put out so much power that the crossover would go into protect for the tweeters. The amp just didn't sound as good. I had the gain less than halfway on the orion. I just don't see the watt is a watt arguement being valid in any circumstance when amps have signal processing circuits built in.

Well, it has been a while since I last posted, and I finally got around to hooking up my IS4065 in my car (the guy who bought my Planet Audio VX3002 wanted it). Well, I had been procrastinating doing it because I figured it would sound the same, well, if I had known what I do now, it would have been swapped out waay ahead of time. I turned on the car to set everything up and I noticed that my music sounded different. I quickly eq'ed something not even listening (just setting my typical eq because i had to switch from network mode to regular mode). The first song I played had tons more detail than ever before. I keep listening to everything over and over again to get the full effect that I have been missing. This amp makes my Planet Audio VX3002 and Orion 4004 sound like garbage. I have always been one of those "a watt is a watt" guys, but now I have changed my opinion. Thanks Flakko.

I actually like it more than my XXX 15. The way the box was set up, it had some cancellation issues and with the daily port in, it wasn't as loud as I was expecting. I would say that this set up is as loud or louder than the daily set up with my XXX 15. The reason being, is that it is down in the well more and it works better down there. I am starting to dislike XXX's more and more because no matter how much power you give them, they still want more, and that just is not very efficienct. The 8s have all of the sound quality of the 15, they are just missing a bit on the lower end (as expected). It has been a while since I parted with my 15, so I can't really compare it very good, but I certainly like the weight savings and the fact that I don't have to run loads of power. Just giving these subs 350 watts a piece is a very nice tradeoff.

My car doesn't flex too much with all of the glass and such, but these things move like crazy. They look pretty sweet when they are moving at a low tone. I don't have a video camera though. Maybe I can find one somewhere to borrow.
-
It was on a 50 hz test tone. If I built a box that was a bit peakier with a nice spike at 50 hz, I could easily do a 140 on the dash sealed. This is in a Camaro hatchback, so I guess that is an advantage. If you get the Rl-i's, you won't take up much space at all under your seats. This box is really small.
-
Yeah, especially for only having 15 sq inches of port area and .9 cubes to work with. Not to mention the low tuning of 35 hz. I could probably make them do a 145 with the right box, or maybe even more. I just don't want to bother with building the boxes.

Well, kind of. I plan on building an amp rack to go on the back wall of the trunk, and putting an 8w7 in the side so I can still use my t-tops. Although this has me thinking of just getting a pair and giving up my well.... The subs belong to my friend with a mustang.

It's just staying in my car until tomorrow or saturday so I'm not worried about it.

What is up with the new gear? I know CES has passed and I have seen the new lower level Pioneer cd players, but are they going to make an 880 or 980? Also, does anyone have pictures of the new RE drivers? God knows they will never update their website. I need some information because I am out of the loop.

Whats up guys? I haven't been around much lately due to school and other things. I was just checking in to see what was up. I finally sold my speaker box that was in my car, and the rl-i 8s are almost ready, so I will be building my stealth system pretty soon. I will mount my amps on the back wall of the hatch and I think I'm going to put both 8s on the driver's side if they fit. The whole thing will be vinyl'ed to match my panels and I will add some vinyl on top of my ugly trunk liner wherever it is showing. I think it should come out pretty nice. I will also be re-angleing my kicks and relocating the tweeter to the a pillar. I just wish I had a bit more time and later classes. This 7:30 business isn't very fun. I need to take some more pictures of my car, because now it is lowered and I have the new suspension stuff on it. I will probably take a few hours and clean it up really good before, so don't expect pictures anytime soon. I am also missing 2 of my SS badges and due to bad customer service, I haven't recieved a replacement pair. I hate companies who rep the hell out of their product and answer any of your questions until they make the sale, and then they never answer any of your emails or phone calls. I am also missing a wiring harness for my cutout that I lost, and I haven't been able to get a replacement. Oh well... Edit: I had to fix it so everything wasn't on one line.

Hey flakko, I was wondering if you can get ahold of something that would make my amps look like one big amp sitting side by side. Kind of like the older RF amps, just an endcap that connects 2 amps and makes it look like the amp continues on. It is for the IS series BTW. I think it would look sweet if I could do that. Let me know man, Alex
