  1. Yeah, I thought about that, and can't really say I'll use all the features. But I owned my current Alpine for over 7 years. So whatever head I'm going to get, I want it to last. Maybe I won't use the features right away, but maybe later when I figure it out. 134point.something using a 44hz test tone. I had the volume at 22. We tried 24 and 23 but it started skipping. I'm not sure if it's because of the amp or the deck. Funny, you mentioned that, though. I'm looking for a new deck because of his term lab session. The current Alpine I have has a motorized faceplate, and sometimes it eat's a disc and I have to reset the unit to get the disc out, but I lose all my presets. So, my first term lab session and Sky let's my use a disc and the Alpine eats it. I reseted the unit and got the disc out and was embarrassed, but I don't think anyone noticed. And since that Sunday, the Alpine ate discs 3 different times, so I think I need a new deck.

A little more info on the new Mags

Mag with XBL^2 is awesome. I currently own a Mag and a Brahma and love them both. Sucky thing is that I only have three cars to play with. My main car has the current Mag and I have no plans of replacing it. The second is my dad's car that I Never drive. And the third is my new Rav4 that I only drive when I'm with my girlfriend, so no need for loud volume, but I want it there anyway. I was thinking the Brahma can go in my dad's car, and the new Mag in the Rav4. But now you mention the BM is 3.5" and not that tall BM that we're seeing. As much as I love the Mag, it seems like the BM might be better for me. So, now I have to choose between SI subs. I hope both the Mag and BM come out about the same time. But I'll probably end up buying the sub that comes out first. Now update your website!
  3. I have a paper to write for an Economy class (Pure Compitition, Pure Monopoly, Monpolistic Compitition and Oligopoly). Basically need an article that supply and demand and shows what happens to profit and make graphs, and the teacher said to choose a topic I like. So, it would be awesome if there's some article showing JL, SI, Kicker or whatever showing more profit because of an introduction of a new sub, or anything audio related. So, what's a good site that shows audio sales?

what happens if the port isn't perfect?

I finally got to install the box/sub/amp yesterday. So, I went from: 1. 12" Mag in a box that's 2.6 ft^3 @ about 31 Hz, with a Massive P1000.1 amp 2. 12" Adire Brahma MK III (Fi reconed) in the same box above and the same amp (I had air leaking under the sub gasket because of a bad box build) 3. 12" Mag in a box that's 2 ft^3 @ about 31 Hz with a Sundown SAE-1000D amp Here are my thoughts: The Mag in the 2ft^3 box and Sundown sounds the cleanest. But the output is nowhere near the subs in the bigger box. When I have the time, I'll switch out the Sundown with the Massive and see what happens (maybe I'm setting the amp wrong or something), then after listening to that, I'll switch the Mag with the Brahma and try and determine if it is only the box that's causing the decrease in output, or if it's one of the other componants. The songs I used for my output test the songs on both Yung Jok CDs Can't be touched by Roy Jones Jr. The Hand Clap song by ? Yeah, not much testing, but I'm a little busy to concentrate on this to much at the moment. Thanksgiving can't come sooner.

    new mag

Make sure the Mag Party is in Hawaii. Anyway, This thread titled "new mag" got my hopes up. I thought I was actually going to see pics or specs.

what happens if the port isn't perfect?

Ha, I see that pic all the time, but never thought about putting pics on this thread. Anyway, here you go: here's the dried glue in the port: the bottom of the port with that line in the middle I measured for the port length: The inside of the box: here's the box with the front on, not glued yet (I chopped off the one end because it was really crooked, so I'll cut another small peice of MDF to glue there): The Mag and brand the new, unused SAE-1000D sitting pretty, but not doing nothing........yet And a pic of the old box that's supposed to be 2.5 ft^3 tuned to 32 Hz, but after measuring, closer to 2.7 ft^3 tuned to about 30 Hz BTW, Am I allowed to put this much pics?

what happens if the port isn't perfect?

i do have a question though. you mentioned the port bends along the back wall. did you measure the length of the port down the middle or did you build it with a total of 33" of inside port wall? I measured down the middle of the port. I even drew a line on the box down the middle of the port before gluing and measured that line. The line is actually 31 3/4 in. because according to JLs tuturial I'm supposed to add half the width of the port if the port is running along one of the walls of the box. So, my port length is either 33 in or 31 3/4 in. I believe JL so, I say 33 in. As far as port noise go, my first box was 2.6 cubic ft and has a 1 3/4 in x 11 1/2 in port. I can't hear port noise while I'm driving and didn't know it existed until I decided to take a few videos on my digital camera. So, at least for my car, port noise only happens when you pop the trunk and watch the sub play, but not when I'm driving. Thanks for all the support, and hopefully this damn rain stops so I can finish building.

    SAE-1000D Power Testing

I have a question on this part. I just got a SAE-1000D from theabunai and I'm going to hook it up to a single SI Mag D2 12" once I complete my new box. Above, you have a pair of Mags wired to 0.5 ohms to get the 1 ohm power from the amp. Should I assume with just a single Mag wired to 1 ohm will actually get me about 1.5 ohm or something and not get 1000 Watts? Thanks

    old JL 10 value?

If those are indeed old W6s, then you cannot go wrong with buying it for $25. Great subs, IMO. I'm not sure how they stack up against the current 10" subs on the market, but I'm pretty sure they can destroy most or all subs that's $25. As far as finding out for sure if it's a W6, at the bottom of the motor, my subs says "JL 12W6". One thing to keep in mind about those subs is that the surround is foam. So depending on how old the sub is, it may end up deteriorating on you. I bought my W6s used back in 97. It lasted me until 05 when the surround started to come off. I was able to find a place online that sold surrounds though (and I had to also change the center cap, so no JL picture, and still work. Also, if you end up with this W6, you need to know it's a dual 6 ohm sub. So, unless you have three subs, the ohm load is going to be weird.

    old JL 10 value?

here's some pics of my old set up of the old 12" W6s. I'm not sure what yours look like but these are what the W6 looks like so you can compare it.

Better than ID Max or D9 ????

So, the Icon has better SQ and better SPL then a Mag? Ever since the Icon came out, I was waiting for someone to directly compare it to the Mag (and on a lesser note, the Q and RLP) This is the first time I've actually read one sub is "better" then the other.

SI's new web page is up!!!

Nice. But I have one request. You should have a link to a page that has tech specs on your discontinued subs. I looked around and I couldn't find any tech info on the current BMs, just the new proto BMs. So, I'm thinking once the new Mag comes out, all the tech info on the current Mag is going to disapear. It may be useful in the future for those of us with "older" versions of your products.
  13. I need a new amp for my SI Mag. I had a Massive P1000.1 amp running it that does 880W @ 1ohm, but that amp is now powering my newly fixed Adire Brahma MKIII that Fi reconed for me and instead of getting a new amp for the Brahma, I'm thinking about getting one for the Mag. Now here lays the Problem. I'm down to these: Sundown SAE-1000 (1000W @ 1 ohm) - because I know Sundown is high quality. Massive P1500.1 (1250W @ 1 ohm) - because I've never had a problem with the P1000.1 in the year I've used it. and Hifonics BXi1206D (1200W @ 1 ohm) - largely because it's easy on the wallet. I won't ask which one I should get. I'm pretty sure EVERYONE's going to suggest the Sundown, so there's no point in asking. My question is why I should get the Sundown over the others. An amp being overrated or underated is not really important to me comparing these amps. Just as long as it's not Major underrating. Build quality is important, but my time with the P1000.1 shows that the Massive should have enough build quality for my abuse (which is not real abuse, compared to half the posters on this forum). I want the Sundown, but if it saves me $100 for something else that's good enough for my aplication, I'll save the $100.
  14. This is the answer I was actually looking for but it's not really directly comparing the Sundown and the Massive. I'm sure the Sundown will do well in every catagory you mentioned and would destroy brands like Hifonics or Sony that's cheaper and have higher power ratings, but it's hard to say if the Massive heats up faster, or not rated as true power if no one else but me tried out a Massive amp. And that's what I was hoping to find, someone that can say they had both a Sundown and Massive, and the Sundown does this or this better. But let me quote myself: Ha, I should have emailed SSA for "best pricing" before starting this thread. Looks like I'm getting a Sundown in the near future. (And I can be the one comparing a Sundown and a Massive)
  15. While I do understand the benifits of knowing the actual owner of the company can answer questions about amp, I honestly think the more knowledgable posters on this board like Jim, Abunai and others can answer the same questions whether it's Sundown, Massive, Kicker, or Orion. While personal attention from the owner is pucking awesome, I don't think it's nessasary. And I wouldn't doubt Sundownz would try to help me out if I choose the Massive over the Sundown and I ran into problems with the Massive. But, I do understand that if the Sundown does chit on me, Sundownz is here, while if the Massive chit's on me, I'm fudgeed. But I'm hoping I don't mess up my amp whether it's the Massive or the Sundown. Customer service is hard to put a value on if you don't know if your going to use it or not, so it's hard to say if the Sundown is worth the extra $70 for customer service. As far as dollars per watts, it's $466.66 for 1000W vs. $392.89 for 1250W (both prices include shipping). So, that leans towards the Massive having more watts per dollar. But I'm willing to give us Wattage, if the quality is a lot better for the more expensive amp. And that brings us to quality. But like I mentioned, I already own a Massive Amp. It does what I want it to do and it never gave me problems. To me, the Massive is great quality. Does the Sundown have something the Massive amp don't that makes it better quality? This is basically what I want to know so I can make a good dicision in buying my next amp. I actually decided a while ago to go with the Massive, but I've heard nothing but praise for the Sundown, and everyone reccomends them (well, everyone actually recommends the SAZ-1500D for a Mag, but I that ones a little bit to much). This makes me question my dicision in choosing the Massive. Now, if the Sundown was $70 less expensive, I would have probably tried out it out over another Massive. (Yeah, I'm looking at every penny. If Fi went into buisness 3 months ealier, I think I would have got Fi subs instead of a Mag and Brahma) So, does the Sundown offer something more in quality or function then the Massive for less Watts and a higher price? Thanks

    10" mag

The only reason I would consider getting a 10" over a 12" is for the shorter mounting depth. If the new 12" Mag's mounting depth is indeed 5.5", I don't see the point in getting a 10" Mag, even though SI having a 10" Mag would be cool.

    new Mag news

I got this off of caraudio.com and I couldn't find anything close to all this news on the "official" SI site. I understand this may not even be the chosen driver, but this IS the driver I want, specifically the Shollower mounting depth (by a full inch!) and secondly but not as important - smaller, more specific enclosure requirements. If this ends up being the new Mag, it means I'll be getting this to stick in my Rav4, which my current Mag was supposed to go into be can't because of mounting depth issues. This also means I gotta say sorry to Fi and Soundsplinter because I think I'll stick with the Mag. Saying that though, This needs to be quoted: BTW, here's the car audio link: http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=260400

    new Mag news

No problem. I just thought it was pretty big news because I was still picturing a triple stacked Mag before reading that thread. Also, before reading that thread, I had no intentions of getting a new Mag because I don't have an extra vehicle to put it in and I had no intentions on getting rid of my current Mag. That has changed since reading it. I honestly didn't want to be the one that posted this, because obviously, I have nothing to do with building the Mag, but I couldn't resist posting something cool like this.
  20. I've owned my car for over 10 years, and went through 3 alpine head units, and went from a pair of JL 12W6v1s to a single SI Mag and from a 600W Crossfire amp to a 880W Massive amp. I've always had a problem when I play bass heavy songs where the song would "skip" (actually, it stops playing for a split second) when the volume's at 16 (The gains were set by ear at 15 and I would never hear distortion with the gain knob 3/4 around. And I always turn it back to less then 1/2, because my ears can tell if it was distorting). I always thought it was the amp going into protect, but I just realized that the whole song skips and not just the bass. I'm thinking if the sub amp is going into protect because it's a bass heavy song, the front amp should still be fine and I would still have mids and highs. So, I'm guessing it may be the head unit skipping from the bass vibrating it or something. I really can't think of anything else. Anyone have any idea why it cuts out? I want to know because I have a feeling this Mag that I have can get a bunch louder.

    Vids of my BMs.

Nice!! On top of that, if BMs were not mentioned, I would have mistaken them for a pair of Mags. (SI should think about giving the new BMs and new Mags different logos)

    New BM prototype information

I thought I read somewhere that these subs are only Dual 4 ohm. Is this the only configuration it comes in? I'm still debating on a 10" sub to get later this year or early next year and put in a sealed box, since the 12" Mag I have won't fit in the box that's planned. It's down to this new BM, an RLi-10, and a Fi SSD. Also, what does BM stand for anyway? I heard Baby Mags and Bad Mofos.

    RLI-8 Dammmm

Is the box for the RL-i sealed or ported? Over at the Stereo Integrity section, I found out I won't be able to put my Mag into my Rav4 the way I need to, so I was looking at a single RL-i-10 or a pair of RLi-8s. Maybe one day we can meet up, so I can actually hear what a RL-i sounds like and if it's to my liking. I don't remember the last time I've been to Ewa Beach.

1 1/2" between box and wall

If I could, I would, but I'm pretty sure I can't. I just don't have the ability to do such a thing, and I won't pay for someone else to do it. Also, this box that I'm going to be building is only my second box ever, and the first one has gorilla glue all over the place. It looks like sh-t but I'm proud of it. It does what it has to.
  25. We're fast approching December when I can "officially" modify my Rav4 that I share with my girlfriend. The big thing is that everything must fit in a storage well under the floor in the cargo area. Yeah, I've shown this before: And heres a side view of my box: http://www.mustangmods.com/ims/u/474/572/179813.jpg Basically the sub will fire upwards. And in order for the Mag to fit in there, there is only going to be 1 1/2" from the top of the box to the underside of the floor when I close it up. I measured from the bottom of the gasket to the top of the surround, and it's a little less then 1". I also tried measuring how far the surround shoots out when it's moving. I couldn't really get it accurate but I was thinking 1 1/2" was enough room for it to move. If it works, I'll start on the box sometime next month do a build log. If it requires more then the 1 1/2", then I'll have to go shopping for a new sub, because the bottom of the Mag's motor will hit the bottom of the box and not fit. BTW, the Mag's in my mustang that I just got fixed. Scott over at Fi has a Brahma that he's fixing for me, and I'm planning on putting the Brahma in the Stang. That leaves the Mag for the Rav4. Brahma will not fit in the Rav4.
