Hi, I just ordered a 50x4 and will be using this to drive my mids and tweets separately. It looks like to me the best way to do this is: - connect mids to 1/2, tweets to 3/4 - for channels 1/2, set it to HPF @3000 or similar - for channels 34, set it to LPF @3000 Then, for 1/2, set the subsonic filter the the crossover point with my sub. Is this a legit use of the subsonic filter? What is the x-over slope on the subsonic? My other amp is a 125.2 bridged driving a soundsplinter rli-8. Cheers!

Also, this is just a temporary arrangement. I'm rebuilding my audio processing computer which will be doing all the crossovers anyways. I just want to buy the right components to start with, plus I want to be able to pull the computer out whenever I want to work on it and still be able to listen to my tunes.

I would use the subsonic because you have to choose with a switch, hpf, full, lpf. Can't do both on the same channel. But you can use the subsonic as it is separate. Check out page 5 of this manual and look at the drawing of the 50.4. You'll see what I mean. http://www.sundownaudio.com/SAX504_1004_1252.pdf -Ron

This guy is nuts. Many of you have probably already seen this but it was my first time coming across it... Dodge Sprinter

Any particular reason? Beefing up the front is gonna be hard. Not much space in the kickpanel area, doors take 5 1/2 without mods. I've got them damped really well. I'll see this weekend how low I can get them.

1 rli-8. Currently it's my only sub and it's firing into the cabin through the armrest hole. I was thinking that I would have it and the 15 in the car trunk. One on each side in a custom fiberglass enclosure to keep it close to the edge, facing in towards the middle. Use the rli-8 for 60Hz down to say 30-40, then the rest from the 15. My goal here is to be loud, but accurate. Sealed enclosures with plenty of power are what I'm thinking. So far on the rli-8 run by a Sundown 100.2 this has proven very effective. I just want more bass...
-
I'm especially interested for this as my bottom-end bass down to 20Hz or more. I've already got an rli-8 that can handle say to 40Hz, then this for the rest. I noticed on the specs for the driver, Soundsplinter says .95 ft^3 'enhanced Q.' Is this referring specifically to stuffing, or to other enhancements?
-
I'm interested in how small a sealed enclosure I can jam this thing into w/ a Sundown 1000D (if that's appropriate power). Put lots of stuffing to reduce Q as much as possible. I've got great EQ capabilities, and with this thing's power handling I think I may be OK to do this. Just wanted some input on how realistic I'm being. Thanks

I'm gonna do some experiments this weekend and see how low I can get the fronts. The XO I'm running is around 96dB / octave which should help me get them down to 60Hz I'm hoping... If I can get them to 60, then have my rli-8 take over for mid-bass, I can drop in good quality 12 for the bass from 35Hz or so down but with a less abrupt XO so they'll blend well. Of course once I get my DRC processing going, it'll take care of issues like blend anyways. Especially on bass it is extremely effective. Thanks for the tips guys. I'll take some pics this weekend and post 'em up. I'd love to get a 15 but not sure if I can sacrifice that kind of trunk space.

Anybody use the Pioneer shallow mount subs? Are they good or are they hype? Their 8" has a 2 1/2 inch mounting depth... Could probably jam them into some kick panels...

I posted this over in the USAmps forum but got no response. For the sake of not crossposting I'll just link to it. Please respond there. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...c=16571&hl=

Wow I had no idea... I'd always heard 80Hz or so, but maybe that's become a default more out of practicality than out of reality. Well, hell, you just gave me a reason to build kick panels! haha I'll tell my wife it was your idea.
-
If the XOs and levels are set OK, I think I would be using the 8 for the range it's best at, then use all the power on the 12 just for the last octave or so (40-50 Hz down). Yeah thanks on the processing. It's been fun to set up. It's a hobby... so practicality isn't necessarily the issue. http://www.duffroomcorrection.com/wiki/User:Freat

Hey, I'm currently running a Soundsplinter rli-8 (s4) driven by a Sundown 100.2. I just dropped in the Sundown last night (got it on the sale) and wow what a difference compared to the Rockford Fosgate 325.2 that I was running. Loud and culeeeen! Since this is just an 8, of course it has trouble going down low low with any real punch. Not a complaint, it's a freakin 8 and I can't believe what it is capable of. So I'd like to drop in a Soundplinter RLP D2 w/ a Sundown 1000D. Question: Will I be better off just letting the 12 do all the work, or could I get louder by running the 12 from say, 20-50Hz or so, and the 8" up to 80Hz or so? I'm not looking to get rid of the 8, but overall this will affect how I plan my layout in the car trunk and I plan to do some custom fiberglass for the enclosures. Thanks!

Got the 100.2 yesterday. Dropped it in. HOLY CRAP I can't believe what I'm hearing out of an 8. Great advice guys. The Sundown amp rocks. Anyone who is on the fence about this amp should take advantage of the special. Way worth $200 shipped. Way worth the normal price as well.

As some additional info, I'm running good XOs. I've got a computer processing the audio using BruteFIR to do linear phase crossovers.

Installed my Sundown amp this weekend... What a piece of crap.

DUDE don't scare me! My 1st sundown is arriving today via UPS. I'm 'working' from home today hahaha cause I'm that pumped. -
Hey, not trying to re-ignite anything here... Anyone here doing Digital Room Correction (DRC)? This is more than balancing levels and time alignment. This also helps deal with phase issues (like what are introduced by any non-digital crossover) and reflections (echo) among other things. I've just started on my project, which is SQ oriented, but I like bass too! Just moving to doing linear phase crossovers using a PC has made a HUGE difference. I mean huge. Well, I was coming from a pretty crappy amp built in XO (rockford fosgate) of 12dB / octive butterworth. Anyways, just wondering... I'm going to keep updating this stuff. My project homepage for now is here: http://www.duffroomcorrection.com/wiki/User:Freat No pics yet but I'll be posting some soon.

CarPC help
freat replied to pimpedout97x's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / Electrical
You probably should try out the mp3car.com forums as they kind of specialize in this. As for car PC's being expensive... heh I jammed an old PIII 866 in my trunk and use it purely for audio processing. It's linux running BruteFIR. I have the stock BMW HU running into it then I apply linear phase crossovers (calculated using Octave) between the sub (Soundsplinter rli-8) and fronts (Vifa components) and output that on the soundcard. Holy crap using that XO vs the ones on the Rockford Fosgates is night and day. My new Sundown 100.2 is coming in tomorrow and with the amp it frees up I'll be able to actively XO the fronts. Once that's done I'll be doing Digital Room Correction. So... there's tons you can do with a computer. But then again that's what I do for a living (programmer). If you're going the car PC route I think you may want to just buy the software on mp3car.com. It isn't cheap but it'll do everything for you. For a soundcard, consider staying away from Soundblaster. Almost all their cards resample from 44.1 to 48khz. This causes some issues. The M-Audio revolution cards are consumer oriented but come from a company that specializes in pro sound cards. You can get a revolution 5.1 or 7.1 for under $100. They also have great drivers including bass management software that comes with them. The resampling issue is described here: http://www.pcmus.com/choosecard.htm#resam Sorry my post is kind of rambling... I'm tired. -Ron -
I'm currently running a rockford fosgate amp to a single sealed rli-8 s4 directly coupled to my cabin (via the ski pass hole). The SQ is great, but at higher volumes I think the amp is not so clean. I've got a 1 farad cap and battery is in the trunk, and my radar detector displays system voltage and it's very stable. I was thinking of replacing this amp with a XT 800.2. I think is is sized appropriately. The Rockford Fosgate I'm running is the previous generation of this model: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/pr...S&p_status= Sound like a plan? TIA! -Ron

Makes sense that I need to watch for the clipping. I took a look at the JL CleanSweep and the RF 360. Both are great devices. Since I would need to set my head unit to a constant volume and use them to control it anyways... I just need to control the volume via the computer instead! Also I plan on using the PC to playback MP3s so in the end this makes the most sense. Of course if I do that, and I got rid of the factory head unit, then I could use the volume controls on the steering wheel to control the PC. Hmmm. I've always used the Pioneer premier line in the past. I wish they had the nice red color scheme like interior of the BMW instead of all bright blue. The computer will be doing digital room correction and the XOs actively, so this is kind of why I'm resisting investing too much on other devices like the 360. I've already gone through one development phase with it and was doing the DRC but now I'm getting serioius. Anyways, I'll start posting pics online and let you guys know. FYI I went ahead and got a Sundown 100.2 on sale. Even if only marginally higher output, I think it will be a better match. Better quality too! Thanks for your help!

Time to double check the seals on my sealed box hehe. I designed it specifically for the rli-8, and am pretty happy with the design (fits flush up to the armrest hole). It's just under .5ft^3. Once this is all ironed out I plan to add a 12" to the trunk.

Ordered!!! Great suggestion. I did not notice the sale! That's an awesome deal. Thanks guys. I'm hoping to do a better job of documenting my install this time and posting it online. -Ron
