75 inches of port seems like an awful lot... my port is 4.5x12.5 now. 56 inches. like 15~ per foot. my box is 3.69 cu ft now. think im gonna move to 4.25 with an 8" port at 34 hz next and see how that sounds.
-
Im thinking about building a new box to try and improve sq in my setup a little. i have a 3.75 cu ft box with like 60 inches of port tuned to 32 now, slot port on one side of the two subs. this box is a little bigger than what my subs call for and is an awful lot of port area. im thinking about bringing the box down to 3.2 or smaller and using a 8 round port and flaring the ends tuning to 32. if my math is right 8 is 50 sq inches of port correct? im thinking about choking it down to 7" which is like 38~ and run @ 3 cu ft. im running like 1600-2000 watts BXI2006d would the round port sound better. as with the smaller box? edit" running 2 DC audio lvl4 12s. call for 1.5 cu ft ported each.

They are rated at a thousand at 1.5. I don't think are working very much at all right now.

I don't think going from 3.75cubes to 4cubes is going to be a big improvement. Raising tuning will give more output on the higher spectrum, it may be what your looking for, but I don't want to say "go ahead and do it cause it will" because I don't know, and I don't want to lead you into building a new box and not being happy with it. Do you have any good friends that would let you swap drivers just for some testing? I can go way big, I can go like ten feet if I need. And no, I don't really know anyone with systems. If I go like to five feet maybe and tune to 34 will I lose lower output? Just trying to understand how this works somewhat.

Okay well overall it doesn't sound as good as I want. It hits hard and can generally keep a steady beat but it sometimes just can't seem to keep up. It sounds like its unloading real low and not really making any noise just moving stuff. I just had a misunderstanding on how this works. So should I go bigger like 4 feet? And perhaps raise the tuning? I'm not too worried about it slamming the lows I just want it to be responsive.

I'm gonna cancel it if it doesn't get shipped by tommorrow and order it from 1800woofers. A lot of products SSA sells are drop shipped, or they get it from the manufacturer then ship it out to you. 1800woofers is likely in the same boat... yea but i've been seeing a bunch of people complaining about SSA shipping being slow If sundown is running behind on shipping out their products, how is it SSA's fault? (I could be wrong, but I believe Sundown is extremely busy and running a little behind on getting stuff out) x2 and dont order from 1800woofers. lol. go through wooferetc or something. lots of places deal with sundown, so if its sundown that is the bottle neck then dont go postin threads doggin SSA's shipping man. you dont even know if its their fault.

If that is him, it is getting shady and the pattern of changing names would be obvious. Wow! This guy is nothing but shady if it is him. Looks very similar to his other stores Subtilis Audio, 1800Woofers and now EasCoastAudio. Maybe I'll buy something. Not!! LOL! Didnt know you were a comedian also sefugi...

I want to know how to design my own bandpass enclosure. Can anyone link me to something to read? i wanna do 18s in my cut through but the box is going to have to be bandpass as my opening is only about 10x40. and i dont want someone to just design me one. i wanna know why the sealed chamber has to be this big and why the ported chamber has to that big and how to tune them and what not. i know its not an easy thing to grasp but you had to start somewhere... how are you guys designing them?

appreciate the help, gonna see if the ol lady wants to go to barnes and noble right now. think they'll have it? got winisd pro installed, can i mess around with bandpass boxes or does it just model regular ported boxes? thanks again. B&N might, I'd check online first. And don't hesitate to buy an older version of it. The math hasn't changed You can model BP 4th & 6th in Pro, just don't use or expect to use whatever it recommends. You need to change things around. Make sure to pick a driver suited and stick with one type (I'd recommend first using one they have as you know the T/S should be right). Once you master dinking around with it you can add the drivers you might potentially use. lol okay as im playing around with it, which graph am i supposed to be looking at? transfer function magnitude? im lost. and what does a good curve look like, i know that this is a very taste sensitive question but i dont even really know what im looking at. im getting a graph that looks okay (TFM Graph) i guess with 8 cubes sealed, 3 ported, tuned at like 50 hz.... am i even close on things, at this point the problem is im just guessing and putting numbers in not really knowing what they are doing exactly. i need to read the book first i think. lol.

well i always heard that just firing the port through didnt sound as good or got nearly as loud... I want to understand how the bandpass boxes are different then just regular ported boxes (which i also know VERY LITTLE about) I want better sound quality then i do now with my regular ported enclosure as it sounds "ok" i just know i can do better with the right tools (knowledge)

Im sorry if i wasnt civil, I wasnt trying to offensive at all. And constructive criticism is all if any was implied. I understand stating money was the motive is a bit "edgy" i just hadnt really any other thought as to why you'd keep his section around. I was just amazed he was still being promoted through SSA more then anything and stated why i thought so. I now realize that you guys had to let things ride their course, so again, Im sorry for jumping down everyones throat. I dont wanna be known as someone thats just combative/argumentative.

this is awesome to hear. as for all the "shit talking" talking towards SSA... I think you need to go back and read the whole thread. I dont think ANYONE down talked the forum directly, just the decisions made keeping 1800 woofers on there site, that is all. I read the thread. Its looks like to me people are blaming SSA for Kevins wrong doings and looking to SSA to fix it. Calling Mark and Aaron sellouts for letting him advertise on their site. THATS BULLSHIT! and steavmeade for all the "new" people coming around talking shit? Really? Gonna pull the newb card dude? Its spelled STEVEMEAD. Ummm again read the thread AGAIN, I dont see once anyone BLAMING SSA for ANYTHING. Dont get all bitter. Im allowed to have my opinion. If not then I don't need to be a member here. Its just a ignorant to involve a post count. And Im calling it how I see it, i saw no other reason for them to advertise for him, simple as that. If you wanna make it sound harsh and call em sell outs, fine.

lol really? lol really. And xcons aren't the only thing I'd look for, just not dc subs. lol i suggested IA before anything... what a tool. I never said anything about incriminator, just simply stating that I personally wouldn't go with dc for the above posted reasons. Yeah I guess I'm a tool? sorry shouldnt have called you a tool. Have you ever held a DC or looked at one in person? I have had both 2008 RE SE 10s SX 10 and 12s, and Just got these level 4 DCs. MUUUUUCH different. yeah maybe the basket is the same, that means nothing.

I dont think ANYONE down talked the forum directly, just the decisions made keeping 1800 woofers on there site, that is all. No one asked for SSA to do anything, they and I stated our opinions on kevins company and expressed how we didnt think kevin should be allowed to advertise or sell or whatever, not just keep representing this sub par company. and steavmeade for all the "new" people coming around talking shit? Really? Gonna pull the newb card dude? granted my membership is new and i have a low post count, doesnt mean im new to anything, anyone with any experience should know that. ive been a member at ROE since 06' trust me Ive been around. Sorry if my loud opinion offends anyone, Im young and speak my mind, I turn 23 next month. But what denim just posted is exactly what I would of done, and thats exactly what i was "expecting" to be done. Im very proud to be a member of this board. I really dont mean to step on anyones toes, I just thought this forum was better than that.
