  1. well if its going to be that high in price then id way rather figuring out how to do it myself because thats just crazy haha. does anyone else have anything on this because everyone says they have the big 3 but did you guys pay to have it done or did you do it yourself cuz it seesm like you have to take out half the engine compartment to get to them all and i only get 1 day off a week to do that and i use my car for work so any suggestions would be great, or if i can buy everything online and then have the shop install it for me.
  2. Hello everyone, Ok so im thinking about adding a second battery in my car in the trunk to maintain voltage drop. right now iv got a red top under the hood, about to do the big 3 and a 120a stock alt with a rockford t10000bdcp and a alpine pdx f4. Im planning on getting a kenetik hc800 in the back to add a little more power to my electrical. What i was wanting to know is would this work properly and just add power to my electrical or will it burn out my alt or anything?? i know iv heard of people adding a battery with a stock alt and was thinking it would be fine because i really dont want to spend 600 on a ho alt right now. my local stereo shop says i need a bigger alt and it wont work but it is a 120a alt and adding a lil hc800 isnt really drawing that much more power. so please any advise on this topic will greatly affect my decision. Thanks FI!!
  3. iv never seen a mx-3 but somebody here will have the answer, but yes match the volts from your h/u to the amp
  4. you match the volts from your h/u preouts to the amp, so if your h/u preout volts are 4v then you want your amp at about 4 volts
  5. yes iv always done it by ear but buy ear i have no idea what the max or limit of the sub is who knows i could have the gain way too high up or it could do so much more i just dont know and every song is different so tuning by ear is kinda hard unless you put on the song with the most bass, i dont see whats wrong with doing it with a dmm if i already have one i just dont know what numbers im looking for like whats the formula.
  6. Please somebody let me know what i need to measure to tune my gain with a dmm i have a fi bl lol, i hope somebody knows what the formula is or how to do it!!
  7. anyone know anything about tuning with a dmm??
  8. hey and also i was wondering my h/u preouts are 2.2 volts and i have a 12" fi bl, i was wondering if i use a dmm to adjust the gains what number or formula am i looking for. i know it has something to do with the fs of the sub or maybe not maybe the vas, i really dont know but i want to properly adjust the gain cuz i dont think doing it by ear is good cuz every song is different with less or more bass and i want to get it right. so what do i do with the dmm and what numbers am i looking for?
  9. ?Upgrade stock battery to a agm type battery would help. I no longer have a stock battery, i have a redtop under the hood and im about to do the big 3 and take out the cap and was wondering if my 2,000 watts rms would be too much for what i have or do i need another battery without buying a h.o alt
  10. yea i was planning on getting rid of it soon after i do my big 3. yea i think i will just hold off on the extra battery for now until i see what the big 3 does. i was just wondering if it would work with what im trying to do cuz i really dont want to buy a ho alt so if my stock one will do the job between the redtop and the hc800 without problems then that would be great cuz i am running about 1500 rms from sub amp and 400 from mid/high amp.
  11. right now i have a massive 2 farad cap and when im playing a hard hitting song at 3/4 volume with car at idle it will read 14.6 and drop at the most to 14.1, but like i have a little headlight dimming and my windows get slow and i kinda just want to be able to play my stereo at least a little bit with the car off while like waiting for someone in a store or something cuz i always leave my car running so it doesnt die cuz i really dont know how fast it will die. i guess i just want to be a lil safer and also my amp gets pretty hot to that might take a lil stress off of the electrical
  12. Aw shit mang you just answered your question. The heatsink gets "very toasty" cuz it's a HEATSINK! It's pulling heat away from the amps internals. It's doing what it's supposed to. If the middle of the amp (where the more sensitive parts are) is really hot then that's a problem but if that part's cool then you should be good. And Duran is right. Say your H/U puts out 2 volts which your amp turns into 40 at 3/4 gain. If you get a new H/U that makes 4 volts and your amp turns that into...40...at 1/2 gain, then the amp is still making the same power and you didn't do anything. Having the gain up high is NOT BAD, if that's where you need it to be. Having it TOO HIGH is bad. This gain rule is funny to me...almost like people saying "don't ever push your car past XXXXrpm cuz that will mess it up." Only true if you don't know what the hell you're doing. I have that same amp and it never gets hot. This is also in the 100+ degree Arizona heat, but I have proper electrical upgrades. whats your elcetrical consist of?
  13. anyone know what v i should read on my dmm if i use one to tune it for my bl im giving it about 1400-1500 watts
  14. haha wow thanks guys for all the input i really appreciate it. also for my fi bl if i were to use a dmm to tune the amps gain to the volts what am i looking for like what should it read where fdoes the sub have to read, is there a formula to any of this cuz i dont wanna just tune it to ear i want to see if its in the right place. i know it has something to do with the qts or maybe not i think is the fs haha not too sure always did it by ear but i wanna get the most out of my sub with it being safe
  15. yea it has thermal protection and its never went on so maybe these amps just get hot i mean the middle doesnt get hot but the heatsink will get very toasty, well i was told on here before that if i got a h/u with 4v preouts then i wont have to turn my gain up so much which will be less stress on my amp
  16. if i turn the gain down i cant even hear my sub, im thinking i need a new h/u with 4v preouts so i only have to turn the gain up half way correct me if im wrong. yea cuz my lights dont dim really anymore but yet my amp gets really hot
  17. Low voltage. Either that or you have it at .5 and not 2? But more than likely low voltage. Is it hot as fuck in your car? Cuz if it's 85 outside and you get in and jam it might be operating just fine but since it started out at 100+degrees it just gets hotter? that could be i mean its been like 85-90 outside lately but i always have my windows down, the amp doesnt really get too warm just sitting inside car
  18. i have 4g power wire going to battery 4g ground wire to frame, 2 fuses? i have one inline by battery and then my amp has a 150a fuse built into it if thats what you mean? if i get the big3 upgrade would that make my amp not get so hot? does it make that big of a difference cuz this thing gets really hot like after 30-45 minutes ill let my amp cool down cuz im kinda afraid to keep playing it with it getting that hot
  19. ok ill see what it comes out to i gotta find it, but if my voltage is dropping what do i need to do i dont have a whole lot of money i have a parttime job so anything that might help my amp from getting so hot would work and still why do you guys think my amp gets sooo darn hot haha?
  20. i have it wired seeing 2ohms which my amp puts out 1425 watts @ 2ohms, when i play heavy bass songs my cap volt reader doesnt go below 14.2 at idle, when music is off it reads 14.6v
  21. for my electrical i have a redtop under the hood 150a inline fuse and a capacitor which im sure doesnt really do anything, could that make my amp get really hot
  22. im in the same perdictament man, my gain on amp is 3/4 way up with all bass boost off and i just dont think im getting the full output the sub is capable of, i know the sub can do soo much more but yet my gain is almost all the way up i just dont understand it. i really wish i knew someone close to me that has heard these subs before so i can ge another opinion on whats going on. same with my jl 12w7 when i went to go sell it the guy hooked it up in his car which he had a jl 1000 and it was like twice as loud as when i had it hooked up to my RF t1000bdcp. i just dont understand whats wrong with my stereo.

and if you ever wanna sell that sundown amp shoot me a msg as fast as you can
  24. that could be a contributer to having to turn it up so high along with the low preout volts. ill have to check this out too when i get my new h/u, thanks everybody, love this site haha
