i would serioussly recommend 2 sae-1000's on that 18, bl should given a clean 1500 imo. 1800 - 2000 would be great daily to get that thing moving some wangage. Mike-

personally id suggest 2 12" ssd's with copper coils, i'm more of a mix of sq and spl guy, and i have 1000 watts to a 12" q and it plenty, i heard 2 ssds with around 1500 watts going to the pair with some copper coils will sound nice in both ported and sealed

still got those too for ya.. 1000D 1000D next to 100.4 Size comparison Both went into this.... will have some installed pics soon 94 camry xle recently repainted and my good wax job Mike

that sounds great, however im thinking i should finish 1 project at a time, and im thinking of prob getting a 100.2 first or doiing both at once. Mike

Well, around december i received my 12" Fi Q from my uncle who knew me too well i guess. It was given as a gift. So im going to break down this topic into the reveiw first, then into my ?'s Packaging, First Impressions: Upon opening the box, the sub was wrapped well and contained in a nice packaged box. only one of the blue things were somewhat worn, so it was slopped down a little, but as i said it was a gift, and probably not handled the best. But still was in perfect shape When i opened the sub up to take it out and expect at the house, the first thing i noticed was how nice the magnet frame was painted. No scuffs. Later, after more inspection i noticed how stiff the suspension was. very nice. The build quality is great. *I decided i was going to clean with rubbing alcohol the motor, and also the cone. 2nd part is a bad idea, dont clean with rubbing alcohol. Took logo right off and made a smudge of the glue i believe on the cone. I learned my leason this is my 1st system.* Question concerning this later. Box: I decided i hear everyone say they want a sub that hits low, so i decided a box at 2.5^3 @ 30hz after displacements would be adequate. with a double baffle and bracing. Pics later. First listen: I had a member of the CA forums set up my system iamamp3pimp (robin) did a incredible job. He dropped the car off. I got a few songs to listen too. Hypnotize - Young Jeezy This showed me how low the sub could get. At this time i didnt have the 2nd battery or complete big 3 done, but this song was enough to make me piss myself. My rear deck flexed so much that it was enough to move the top part of my trunk lid with 2 layers of deadening. The sub was loud and low, and very responsive and tight even in ported box. Top back - T.I. This song was prettty good at showing it ability to switch between frequencies. My amp was low passed around 60 though so it didnt hit the really high low note. But it was a very good demo from this expierence. Last song People of the sun - Rage against the machine This song was very impressive, i could feel every kick pedal and low bass note common in rage against the machines music. It was a tad bit sloppy on the bass notes but than again they play like that. Very responsive and didnt have trouble playing both the kicks and bass guitar. 2 Weeks later, added big three, suspension is loosened on sub, and 2nd battery The sub seems to hit even lower now and i adjusted the amp settings a little more now. I believe it passed around 65 hz now, and subsonic at 28 - 32hz. Phase is at 0 and bassboost is not at much either. I sending the sub around 1000 watts. Songs like coming down da street - unk, knockin head off em - lil jon and put yo hood up (remix) - lil jon, all play loud and low, however i feel the sub is a little sloppier, but not much. I really enjoying this sub, and already have an addiction. I plan on upgrading to either another 12" Q or maybe sell the Q and buy a 15" Bl or maybe even sealing 2 12 or 15" ssds, not sure, but one thing is the same, i will be a life long fi supporter and customer. PICS! Trunk View Close up of my accident and me being stupid rubbing off logo ALL INTO THIS CAR Mike-

i run one of the sae-1000D protos right now and the amp / sub are a good combo. i got a 12" fi q d2. Good match, plan on buying another 1000D and strapping or trading for a 1500D not sure. Mike-

I will post pics of the system when i can get on my pc at home ?'s, would dropping the Q in a 1.2 sealed box after displacements make the sub play higher freq a little better and not be as sloppy? What size sealed box is recommended. Mike

voltages needed for sae-1000D and bridged 100.4 @ 4
theothermike replied to theothermike's topic in Sundown Audio
fixxer, this wont downgrade the signal quality at all? if so, thx for the advice and ill be sure to give it a shot when i purchase my new headunit soon, prob gonna be a 880 prs or eclipse 5000 / 5100 or 7000/71000 Mike- -
Hey, jacob or whoeevr is helping me out here, i need some input on the voltage im looking for on my dmm to acheive the full rms. I need some clarification on if i did the calculations right. 1st my sub amp, i running it at 1 ohm load to get the rated 1000 rms. so i would do sqrt(1000*1) = 31.6? 2nd (part i don't get) when i run my 100.4 bridged to 2 channels at 325 rms @ 4 ohm load, how do i do the equation? is it sqrt(325*4) or sqrt(650*4)? so would it be 36 volts, or 51 volts? I found it really outrageously high for the 100.4 to have a 51 volt supply when bridged, so i hope i right at guessing its 36 volts per channel bridged correct? Also, would you recommend running a +1 bbe on a alpine headunit when setting gains? And do i put my remote bass knob at halfway when thats the max i go up too when using the remote prior to setting gains? Mike- I dont need any links to learn, i read them 100x but i want clarification. We all are humans

Hey john it mike, thx for showing me how to measure the power run voltage on the dmm. yeah, lota of people repping FI in a good way today at the event, we had the guy with the 2 15" btls in the white truck wagging, you john, and frankie all doing good #'s. good event, and that one surbaban was sick as hell with the 12"s in the the doors. My ears are ringing from ur car too

voltages needed for sae-1000D and bridged 100.4 @ 4

explain further please, i can use the balance, it just it kinda sounds like what the fader is suppose to do, and it just pulls or pushes the sound in and out i guess, from front and rear. Mike -
voltages needed for sae-1000D and bridged 100.4 @ 4
theothermike replied to theothermike's topic in Sundown Audio
currently at 33 volts which is about 272 watts per side Quick note, when i was doing my gains, prior to setting them i had to have my fader to the rear 2-3 because it acted as a balance in a way for left and right sound stage. my right speakers were more defined when in the drivers seat, so at fader 2-3 it is a balance of both sides of speakers. soo when i did my gains, at i did balance 0 and fader 0, and got different voltages. so i set the fader to 2-3 and did my voltages and got a balance of both the voltages. i want to make sure it was a good idea that i set the fader to 2-3 on how i normally listen to it and then set the gains. -

theothermike replied to theothermike's topic in Sundown Audio
ty, ty, ill actually probably set my component amp at 32 volts or something then as a start. they are 3 ways and rated at 250 rms, so i cant see why a good 280 - 290 would harm them' Mike -
3.5 cubes @ 30hz and 1200 watts...what 15"?
theothermike replied to Banshee's topic in Subwoofers / Speakers
imo the bl wouldnt be much loud than a fi q. I say get a fi q becaus eit will sound better, and is probably better suited at 1200 watts where as a bl should be getting 1500 - 2000 probably. Mike -
once you get a few more amps released you should do a thread with the specs and pics of the amps for each amp and series. Mike-

Stop procrastinating and get working on the sae 1000D, after 2 weeks of having my system installed, i see the bass head addiction i thought i wasnt going to get. so i must have 2000 watts of power not 1000. Also check ur pm's in a few minutes concerning me losing pm's from earlier about my purchas elil while ago. Mike-
