Lots of low ceilings and WTF is with the laminate counter tops? So much for downsizing.

I met my new bitch today. Apparently part of my gig is getting an apprentice. While that may seem to be a downside, I am actually pretty pleased. I am definitely not a natural. I have worked with and know guys who are just gifted, born that way. I am not, I have spent a lot of time learning in school, and most importantly from other techs. I always listen, and have learned from master mechanics and guys who couldn't change a spare tire. I have gotten very good, and I share my knowledge with anyone who asks. So it is kind of cool that I can be that guy. Plus I get paid for what he does to help me.

Please do... I have 1/2 a bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked in me now, but IMO a lot more needs to be enjoyed for this occasion. Thanks, bud. To me, this is huge. This is such a big move to an extremely progressive shop and the opportunity for advancement is tremendous. A new location is in the works by the end of next year, and the possibility of promotion are massive. The guy who's job I am taking is currently running the show, and I am much better at my job than he is, and I have a lot more experience then he does in my current position. Hopefully I will be running a shop, completely, by the end of next year.

I roll my box and equipment out of my old shop and into the new tomorrow. My pay increase is solid, plus my bonus schedule is extremely strong. I should be seeing a boost of roughly 30%. I am excited, to say the least. I have never made this much money, and when I was closest I was not in charge... Good times.

Keep the pictures coming man. While I would never own an insect or reptile, and am not really a fan of holding them, they still fascinate me, and are cool to see. J I wasn't too keen on my son's tarantula at first, but it's actually a very beautiful creature. He's still a bit skiddish though and does not like being handled. Give her time. Handle her a lot. She will become very docile. Chilean Rose Hairs are the easiest to deal with, as long as they are taught to deal with handling.... and they get very large and quite impressive. Nice to see a hospital do that. what appalls me is that my insurence pays out maybe 10- 35% of what the billed price is, and that satisfies them. It's just odd. J When I got sick we contacted the hospital. Due to the fact that I had no income, and my wife was going back to school, they eliminated my first year of debt. The second year they dropped 50% because I went back to work. Most hopitals will work with you. They know they will get shit on by easily 50% of people, so if they can collect from 25% it is a win from them. My out of pocket the first year was roughly $6K, my total costs were over $250K, so you can figure the insurance company paid $150K. My second year was roughly $150K, my out of pocket roughly $6K as well... their total from insurance take was roughly $100K. They scored no matter what.

My BIL hasn't spent that on his Ford in the 7 years and 150k miles he's driven it. Not even close. I can introduce him to many people around here who have. Indeed. The 6L is a horrible engine Based on the motor mount write up, I bet he jacked it up by the oil pan...

Color me green. I hate emissions tests on my vehicles, and even more I hate doing inspections and making no fucking money for my time.

No, not any trans will bolt up. As mentioned, the E4OD (not E40D) does not bolt up to the modular Fords. Trans pans: 4R44E, 4R55E or 5R55E 4R70W E4OD FWIW if your state has any emissions laws you will be hard pressed to just swap the transmission. The TCM is part of your ECM, and is called the PCM. The computer will see issues with a transmission that does not correspond with the factory info and will fly a code. In most states a trouble code with a light will fail emissions inspections. The trans can be geared, better clutches and steels can be added, bigger pumps can be installed, valve body modifications can be done, but the base unit is difficult to change. See above

Spray it down with water. You can work out the bubbles and move the graphics around as needed until the water dries.

I tinted my truck first. Extra cab Nissan Hardbody. I used 2 fucking rolls and took about 6 hours to get the back sliding glass and 2 rear windows tinted. I did my Grand National as well. Limo all the way around. It took me days and several rolls. If I wasn't so persistent and stubborn I could have had the car done for about the same money as I spent on rolls of tint, and saved roughly 36 hours of my stubborn time.

Might be hard to get a hold of, and next breath their CS is unmatched, are you fucking kidding me? If you want the best, you have to be patient. You waited two hours. People are fucking dumb. That is hilarious.

Thanks to everyone for the wishes. Yeah, I left a good job about 5 months ago to try something new. I am terribly unhappy right now. I went from an hourly shop foreman/manager to a simple commissioned tech. I was honestly tired of doing all the drivability and electrical work, and being stuck figuring everything out on difficult cars, plus managing work flow, dealing with salesmen, dealing with techs, and basically being hammered by upper management and the techs. The pay here is far short of what was promised, and the bossman is a total dickhead. Yeah, it will be close to my best paying job. It is a salaried position with a bonus structure, and I will be shop foreman. The shop is actually quite progressive, very large, and well staffed. I know a few of the techs from training classes... 2 of them are not much to speak of from a drivability standpoint, but one of them is pretty sharp. As far as mechanical abilities, I would have to assume they are strong just based on the shop's reputation. A second interview over dinner strikes me as a very good sign.

All FWD vehicles are built this way. Those are transaxles. The Subarus integrate the front differential into their transmissions, eliminating the need for a transfer case and front driveshaft. I am aware of the design, and all transaxles include the differential in the transmission. Most are integral with the inner workings, but it is still built in. Chrysler likes to use what one might call a traditional differential in many of their transmissions. This is common on your Neons, Caravans, Stratus, etc, even utilizing a traditional diff cover as seen here: and the 42LE Chrysler transmission uses a chain driven side mounted differential in this longitudinally mounted front wheel drive unit: Back in the 70s Oldsmobile "added" a differential to the Toronado powerplant allowing it to be a front wheel drive longitudinally mounted engine/trans assembly. Essentially they cut the tranny in half and chain drove the 2 sections, and mounted a traditional diff to the trans housing. Now Subaru does incorporate the transfer case to the transmission, but aside from that, the differential is commonly part of the transaxle assembly.
